The first clerk I saw, told me I needed to show proof of insurance, otherwise, I was SOL. So I left and went to my daughter's, where I could use her computer and print out the info. (I live too far away to do that on the same day) Went back to court showed my info and the new clerk I got told me that unfortunately, I was a month late, however.... she directed me to the computer and printer they had on site. She told me there was a form available if you are having trouble paying and it would be a hardship for you. So I filled out the form, printed it, and brought it to the third clerk I saw that day. He was also very helpful, and picked out from the paperwork I gave him, what the judge would need to see. So after all is said and done, I did get a substantial reduction in fine. Thank you to the two clerks who helped me out. The first gal, well maybe needs more training or not be hating on those of us who screwed up and didn't, fly right the first time. Heads up people. If you cannot afford the fine, go on the court system website and you will find a form for if you can't afford to pay. It will list options you can choose from and just ask for reasons.

I checked the website almost every week until it show up and finally it appear at the end of July 2017, I paid it right away, but the only confirmation I have is a receipt basically saying "case will be released when payment is received", no other communication or contact whatsoever afterward. The deadline to pay the ticket is at the end of August 2017, so I was assuming my case had been released after I pay it in July, but it was not. THEY SENT MY DEBT TO COLLECTION COMPANY WHICH INCREASE MY SPEEDING TICKET FROM $281 TO $561, UNBELIEVABLE! NOT ONE ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO CONTACT ME ABOUT THE PROBLEM. When I contact the court the only thing they tell me was how sorry they felt about my situation, but no attempt to help at all; basically, they just want to finish the phone call asap to get rid of me. I serve in the military and was preparing for a deployment, so I didn't have much time to deal with it. When I was at my deployment location I have to collect a lot of documents to prove to them I was attempting to pay my ticket, but for some reason it didn't go through. I even contacted my bank and they say there was no record of attempt to withdraw money at the time I pay the ticket. So I wrote a letter and gather all the necessary documents and send it to the collection company so they can send those docs to the court to review my request. 2 months pass by and I contacted the collection company again and they say the court deny my request. To sum it all up, I end up paying approx $300 more for ticket in which I took full responsibility for, did my diligent, checking up on the ticket and pay it right way when it appear on the website. But for some fucking reason my payment did not go through and they have no effort to find out why and refuse to accept my effort in researching the reason behind it. No support receiving whatsoever from their staff or even the clerk; especially the clerk, she such an idiot, she have very limited knowledge about her job and very unprofessional in the way she talk to me.

I appreciate the encounters I've had with the South Lake Tahoe police department. I've dealt with…read morenumerous officers for a number of instances over the past two years, and each and every time, I was lucky to encounter officers with patience to listen and understand situations that were difficult for myself and family. My large, Cane Corso dog was over-protective when officers knocked on our residence. I worried that the officers may react negatively with the dog. They did no such thing. They were aware of the dog, however knew he wasn't a threat. On one occasion, they gave my Son an awesome K-9 stuffed animal while we waited at the department. He got a police badge sticker too. Thank you to the officers, dispatch and everyone at the South Lake Tahoe Police Department!

I also wondered recently whether Federal budget cuts would take their toll here. I stopped in today to buy a Lifetime Senior National Parks pass. It was only $80 and the friendly guy at the counter was more than happy to run the transaction. While I was waiting, I couldn't help but admire the huge selection of area "outdoors" books, maps, and gifts. It's also a nice information desk for an area that has a lot to offer.

It is an office that has an information desk and a small gift shop, similar to a chamber of commerce. Some of the maps and brochures are free. They sell mostly books about the national forests, as well as some clothing, mugs, and teddy bears. The office was empty when I arrived, but a gentleman came out and greeted me. He said they are the U.S. Forest Service, with is a branch of the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture). He kindly explained that they are different from the National Parks System (NPS), which is a branch of the U.S. Department of the Interior, but they do have national parks information here, as a courtesy. He must get these questions a lot, as many tourists pass through here. I asked him about this, and he said their busy season begins now. I also saw the fire advisory sign out front, so I asked him why they are now called "wild fires". When I was a child in the 70's, they were called "forest fires", and Smokey Bear used to give warnings: "only YOU can prevent forest fires". He explained that they sometimes also have grass fires on their lands, so they changed the term. I also asked where their district's boundaries are, and he said they control the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest along the California-Nevada border, from the Dog Valley northwest of Reno, to Alpine County in California, an area about 15 miles wide and 100 miles long. I said I would look the U.S. Forest Service up online to learn more about them, and the employee kindly gave me a brochure which explains everything. They have maps and other tourist information outside, as well as a boot cleaner by the door. Parking was easy, right in front.

After being belittled & degraded by the General Manager & his wife (working the front desk) at the…read morePepper Tree Inn on Friday, June 23, I decided to visit the North Tahoe Chamber of Commerce this morning on my way out of town, to file a complaint. Although there were more than eight Administrators sitting in a meeting in the conference room when I arrived, I was told I could write a letter & send it to them. I asked -- "is there anyone I can sit with now & share my story with?!? I experienced something egregious" -- I was told I could sit & write my letter & leave it with them. I wasn't given any other options, even though Pepper Tree Inn is a member of the Chamber. While I will be sending my letter to them, I'll also share it here: The new motto for the Pepper Tree Inn should be a quote by the Dalai Lama -- "Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible." My boyfriend & I visited Tahoe City this weekend for the very first time, & the Pepper Tree Inn seemed the ideal spot. Upon check-in, however, things took an extremely unexpected & horrific turn for the worst. I live with a physical disability & I've been training a mobility service dog for myself for the past 14-months, which means she often travels with me. When booking the room, I spoke directly with the General Manager & let him know I'd be bringing a service dog with me. After checking in, my boyfriend accidentally identified my dog as an Emotional Support Animal (ESA) -- the General Manager flipped. Recognizing the miscommunication, I quickly showed him my dog's badge & paperwork, identifying her as a mobility service dog. He proceeded to scream obscenities at me, my boyfriend, & my dog -- calling us liars & stating repeatedly that ESAs are not service animals. Although my dog is not an ESA & I showed him the paperwork, he accused me of lying to him when I booked the room. He degraded, belittled, & humiliated us in front of other customers. When I finally got over my shock, I asked him -- is this really how you run your business?!? He responded with -- "yeah & if you don't like it, you can get the **** out -- I'd actually prefer it if you left." I ended up crying in the parking lot for at least 15-minutes, before we went into the room for 30-minutes to find a different hotel. When we called down to let the General Manager know we'd be leaving & wanted to ensure the payment would be credited back to us, he told us -- "no, I'm charging you for a full day since you went into the room -- he then called us idiots & screamed further obscenities at us." The next day, we had to pick up an Amazon package that was delivered to the Pepper Tree Inn, & we brought a Sheriff's Deputy with us to ensure our safety. I have NEVER in my life been treated the way this man treated us. It was a disgusting display, an unsettling & sad experience, & one I will NEVER forget. I'd suggest going to ANY hotel in the Tahoe City area, but NOT the Pepper Tree Inn!!!

If you see a gray and reasonably fit man with University of Iowa or Texas A&M-themed gym clothes, that's me. But you definitely won't see us on a pickleball court, which isn't the type of strength, endurance, and cardio exercise that we need. We really really like this gym and don't mind the relatively long but frequent Genoa commutes. You'll also find me here in its time as a volunteer election worker. And there's so much more going on here.

So depending on the time of day, the Genoa Post Office is a happening place. Getting in and out of the parking lot can be an adventure in itself, and with COVID, it's sometimes hard to recognize your neighbors. Now that Gayle and I live just outside of Genoa Proper, I enjoy the experience. When Gayle first registered for our PO Box, the postal employee immediately noted that Vassar was a Genoa Proper name. That's true as her Dad's family arrived here around the 1940s. So that makes only me as the California invader (via Iowa) in our house. :) If there's too much mail to fit inside the box, I'll either see a key inside the slot, directing me to a larger "locker" space to retrieve my package. Otherwise, I'll see a yellow or green slip, directing me to the desk. The folks working at the post office are nice and with a local flair that I relish. They'll even collect my MIL's mail for me to deliver, no questions asked.

Apparently, there seems to be one USPS employee working upon my arrival so, you must hail for service. Anyway, just after the Post Office's location is the antique store . . . FYI~A blatant landmark searching for the antique store signage in order, looking for the Post Office, I guess? I didn't see a US Flag flying so, I just don't understand why as a government office, there's no flag~Waaaah . . . Well~My suggestion is drive super s-l-o-w so you won't miss the USPS' driveway!
