Bought 3 outdoor lights for garage and front door. when purchasing sales staff did not advise us of return policy even when we specifically asked if we could return lights if they didn't fit. lights needed to be ordered from one of their vendors and took six weeks. they knew this would take us over the 30 day return policy window and said nothing. did not even advise us to check measurements prior to purchasing. not impressed and will definitely not shop there again. read more

ok, so typically I wouldn't buy all my lighting fixtures here. Most are way overpriced or similar fixtures could be found at your local hardware store for much cheaper. Since I was building a new home, this was the home builders lighting company that they used so I chose my selections, to the tune of $3,000 above our "budget." Perhaps in Carrington-land, 3 large is not a big deal, but do you know how many pairs of shoes I could purchase for that!? I found our salesgirl pleasant but the front desk/reception staff were rude and belligerent. If you call in, it is almost an inconvenience that you called but once you do get your sales person on the other end they are really great and professional to deal with. After my fixtures arrived, one glass cover on the chandelier was broken, and a tech did repair it although he seemed to be in a rush to get in and out and I got the feeling he was irritated with me when he cut his hand in the process of changing the broken cover, sorry my friend, your incompetence is no problem of mine. Then he made the comment that he "didn't intend on taking so long" with my chandelier, well, seeing that it cost about $1,200 I thought it wouldn't be a big deal to make sure all the glass covers matched! Either way, it was done, he was mad and I didn't loose any sleep over it. Fast forward, now I am in the process of renovating my basement and required the same lighting fixtures, which are pretty much discontinued. I spoke with a lovely lady named Yvonna who was just as sweet as pie who took care of locating said fixtures and actually got them transferred from another location for me and managed to give me a little discount in the process...when I went to pay for these fixtures, about $500 worth to be exact, you would think that the front end clerks would be kissing some serious behind for the amount of dough people dump there, nope, guess again. One of the older ladies was busy helping someone on the phone, instead of me, a paying customer with cash in hand, and the other was taking her sweet arse time checking out another lady buying about $5 worth in bulbs. I don't mind waiting, not at all, I do mind the attitude. Payment time, I tell this she-jerk that I had an order placed with so and so and what it was and how much I owed. She looked at me like I was from Mars, aggravated, in fact, that she had to look for the fixtures which happened to be by the front entrance and became even more irate that she was unaware I was offered a discount. She left me at the check-out to make sure that the sales rep did in fact give me a discount!! She was charging like a bull!! I thought she would turn into the incredible hulk at any moment!!! She had some difficulty with processing two transactions, I used visa and cash but I guess that is taboo here. I don't know about you, but I rarely have $500 in my wallet at any given time. All in all, Carrington does have a lot of beautiful items, some are severely overpriced and others on clearance are a steal, just make sure you prepare yourself in advance for a healthy serving of attitude from the front desk clerks. read more

Carrington has a TON of lights to choose from which puts them hight on the list of places to look if you need lighting. However, this also means that they are really busy and the people who work there are often to busy to help you. The day we visited, we got help no problem. We found lights that we liked the looks of and we asked the lady about them. She said that they were newly in and that they were a Canadian company that they were carrying because of their quality. We decided to buy them. We got them home and the electrical install was not a problem but the pendants would NOT hang straight. The next day my husband called Carrington. They said to take it down and bring it in. When we did, the man said "See....you just have to bend them until they hang straight". Um...no. At almost $200 per pendant, we were not going to bend them to make them work. I'm sure if we broke them, Carrington would not replace them. So we took them all back. We were told we would get a call to discuss options but that never happened. We will be looking elsewhere for lighting. read more

Ok selection but sales staff pretty much ignore you. I think they can work on improving their customer service and inventory selection. Won't be returning to this store I was ignored the whole time I was there even though the store wasn't busy and there were a couple of sales people not serving any customers read more

I love this store, the staff, service and lights. I've been shopping at this store for years as I own many properties and have renovated my properties a few times. Ignore the poor reviews and go and see for yourself. I prefer this place over other lighting stores in the city. read more

I worked with Laurie as we selected lighting for our new home. Laurie seemed to know how much light was needed in every room. She was right in every piece of advice she gave us. We added some lights to larger rooms and selected certain brighter lights for workspaces that I never considered. Would reccommend! read more

Carrington is one of the worst lighting stores I have ever shopped at. Customer service was awful, not one person asked if we needed help, nor did they acknowledge our presence. The store itself has an excellent variety of light fixtures however, the staff are ignorant. At one point, I was sitting on a bench at the sales desk and 2 sales people walked past me- looked at me, and didn't even ask if I needed help. The most unfortunate part was the fact that they had 5 staff members on the day all standing at the front desk talking. I really hope one day the manager looks into training his/her staff to be attentive to the customers needs. Needless to say, Carrington lost out on a $1900 sale. read more

I guess nothing ever changes at this place. I was in there 20 minutes, and had decided on 2 items totalling $300. I was ignored. Several staff made eye contact, then looked away. I swear, 30 seconds was all they needed to spend to get my money. Like others, it wasn't busy this afternoon at 2pm when I was there. Funny, I really want those items. Wow, I hope somebody in senior management or even ownership saw these posts. In this day and age of competetiveness, and with people looking on line to check out outlets and what they offer, I would be some mad if I saw my store and employees written up in such a way. Evidence of this? Well, check me out looking around pulling up stores - and lo and behold, the ratings and rantings Carrington got has caused me to go elsewhere. If someone in a leadership role for this company sees this, just think how many people have been turned away by the comments made. Then transfer that in to dollars lost in business revenue. I shudder to think how much you are losing on a daily basis. Time to act methinks. Companies spend tons of dollars advertising and marketing to get people in the door. If Carrington has spent any money in this area (and they have a nice store) it appears they have chosen to keep a staff capable of undoing all this effort in the twinkling of an eye. Way to go.............. I think its time someone at this establishment really saw the light.. read more

The staff at this store need a swift kick in the butt....I was totally ignored while shopping for a light fixture. When I finally went to the desk and asked for help in purchasing a fixture someone finally came to our assistance. Paid for the light [October 11)and as told it would be ready for pick up in 2-4 weeks. After 5 weeks we called to see if our fixture was in and was informed it would not be available until late January. After returning to the store had to wait 1/2 hour to buy the floor model which they felt a 10% discount was compensation enough. The discount was applied to the sale balance so in reality was in fact 7.5% discount. The fact we drove twice from the Deep South end of Calgary, spent 1/2 a day on the phone to see where our original order was, and then a 1/2 hour at to store to pick up the floor model. Never will I buy another fixture here and have heard from several people they too have the same sentiment. read more

Well, we originally contemplated between ordering online from the US or ordering from the local shop. Eventually decided on Carrington. The first surprise was when while we were paying for it they mentioned that their lead times are "4 to 6 weeks". Quite a bit more than other folks (1-2 weeks on average)... OK, so be it, and we placed an order. 3.5 weeks later my wife called in to check on the order status - turns out they never placed a PO for it with the vendor and they now had their lead time slipping to at least 7 weeks. When we called them again and finally talked to the manager (Ivanna), she basically said that their lead times are "estimated"and that "no one in the world guarantees their delivery times" (being a Project Manager, I just wish I had the luxury to say the same to any of my Clients) and that potentially they could run into a "customs issue"(mind, they bring everything from the US, so I laughed). She refused to understand that when they stated their lead time to be 4-6 weeks, they became bound by the commitment not to exceed 6 weeks (otherwise they should've only said "from 4 weeks"(to eternity)). I mentioned that I work with 5 other vendors in Canada and US (we're remodeling our house) and that all of them have specific lead time commitments which they all honor. Bottom line is, we cancelled our order and bought the same item online, saving another 6% and getting it to ship in 2 weeks. From now on, "Carrington" is a curse word in our family :-) read more

Shockingly poor customer service. I purchased a light fixture that died one year into a five year warranty. They offered to replace the fixture, but that it would take 3-4 weeks to get a new one. In the meantime, they offered to provide a temporary fixture, but I would be responsible for removing, installing and re- installing everything each time. I suggested that they should consider some compensation for these extra costs and inconvenience, and the representative responded immediately by saying that the warranty doesn't provide for installation costs and that that's not part of the contract. I tried to explain that its about customer service, not blaming their suppliers, and that I was reluctant to pay the cost of re-installing a fixture that could fail prematurely again. I told her that I would not shop there again and I would tell others how shoddy their attitude was. She responded by saying that that was slander and that I could hear from their lawyers - then she hung up! There are many other vendors out there who go out of their way to ensure customer satisfaction - this is not one of those companies. Their sales representatives should have more training in tact and proper handling of customer concerns as well. read more

Went in to purchase some track lighting on a Monday. Took a while to get some help but I get it, they are busy. Ordered what we needed, paid, and was told the lighting was in another location but would be available the following Thursday and they would call us when it arrived. A week later we still hadn't heard anything from them. I call them at 2:30pm and have to wait until they find the lady that took my order a week previous to get to the phone. She looks up our order and then tells us that she has to look something up and will call "right back". I assume this means 20-30 minutes. I never hear back so I call at 5:30. I get told that the Lady I was dealing with has gone home and that they are closing up so they can't help me. I ask if she can leave a message for the lady that indicated I called and to please call me back. She says yes and indicates that the sales rep will call me in the morning. Surprise, surprise we do not get a call back the next morning. I wait a day to see what happens still no call back so I call them. I get told that they are really busy and the sales rep can't help me at this time and to leave a message for her. I leave another message and that is where we currently sit. They have my $300, I would like my lights, or at the very least to know the status as I have someone booked to help me install based on the info I was given at the time of purchase. Needless to say this has been a very frustrating process. If they are too busy to deal with customers maybe it is time to hire more staff. read more
