Picked up some Pistacchio Yogurt for breakfast and it was delicious! They also had fresh fruit for decent prices and plenty of food souvenirs to take home. I found a box of Ferrero's Pocket Expresso that I've been searching for and some juices. Plenty of locals shop here as I didn't see too many tourists. Bonus: You can also buy bus tickets here!

Limited seating, but we were there around lunch hour 1pm, and we were the only people in the store. I think we dealt with the owner who despite not speaking english was very nice and accommodating. The store was very clean and appealing. We just guessed and got a cotto e fontina panini, along with one coke, some marinated artichokes, and sun dried tomatoes. All for 9 euro. The artichokes and sun dries tomatoes were so good my eyes rolled to the back of my head and made me question my fidelity. I thought about going to confession after lunch. Great for lunch or take away. One of the best finds in our trip.

The vegetables are fresh picked - you can smell the earth- and about 1/ 3 the price of central Florence. The place is busy. Lots of locals. Inside are local goods, meat, poultry, cheese, and fish. You can't get any fresher. Olive oils and many other DTLA acids inside. Outside there are clothing vendors, farmers, plant sellers, jewelry and antiques. There are fewer options here than Mercato Centrale but the trade off is that you don't have to deal with all the people. They sell a lot of the same stuff - fresh produce, meats, and some vendors selling food. We tried the tripe sandwich here, which wasn't as good as the other market, but still delicious. We also bought some strawberries outside, which might have been some of the best strawberries I've ever eaten in my life, so definitely don't sleep on those. Mercato di Sant'Ambrogio is worth the trek!

He recommended a meat and cheese board with some vino that was absolutely divine. I don't think I've ever had such a delicious and fresh off the bone charcuterie as I did today. He sat with us while we snacked sharing with us his family history and 3 generations of business, since 1924. Such a kind soul. I hope his business lasts lifetimes more. It truly is such a special place. Can't wait to get back. Highly recommend. No crowds either.

The family/staff that owns the market and restaurant was so sweet. We stopped by for a lunch and ordered anything they recommended. They were extremely attentive and wanted us to have the best experience. We had the Ribollita and their charcuterie board for 2. It was such a treat! I've never had Ribollita before then, but it tasted so fresh and homey. It was as if a family had invited you to their home for a meal. The eating space is a tiny, so if you find an open table definitely try to grab a bite there! The walls are also littered with post it notes from customers who have had the pleasure of eating there. This store is great because they have anything that you might need (which is pretty good for an express store) -- not sure if express stores are different than the American versions of expresses, but they had a good amount of options of just about everything. Not sure if the price is what all grocery stores charge in the area because a lot of things seemed quite expensive (loaf of bread could be 4 euros, where as in the US, it would be like 2). But it's a nice place to go to pick up some essential food items/snacks if you don't like eating out all the time when traveling (especially since it can be hard sometimes to find a foods that fit your craving). The store is conveniently located about a block from the back corner of the Duomo- so easy to find and return to often in travels around Florence. The staff were very helpful and suggested a few things I hadn't thought of. What I liked was they left me alone to discover on my own and did not hover but were kind and attentive. I highly recommend Pegna if you're craving something nostalgic or even something special. They had the best selection of over 30 stores I visited, and carry brands from elsewhere where in Europe that I could not find anywhere else in a 6 mile radius.

Their products are reasonably priced maybe because this store doesn't get a lot of foot traffic (it's not in a main street), or because they're just cool people - either way, Meta is not huge but it has everything you need including fresh meats, veggies, fruit and fresh bread!
