I tried several different barber shops when I lived in New Haven, and Carrano's was the best of them. The guys here are cool and will listen to your hair cut requests rather than just chop everything off with clippers. When Covid-19 regulations were in full effect, they found creative ways to keep giving great hair cuts while keeping customers safe. Stopped in because I needed a beard trim and style and thought I'd give them another shot. This was the fourth time I got a bad beard from them. I usually go elsewhere out of town, but I guess I forgot how unhappy I was the last three times and I decided to give them another shot. My beard was uneven again, which made my face look lopsided. It doesn't grow that way so I don't know why they always cut one side higher than the other. Both guys do it. Is it bad lighting? No attention to detail? Laziness? A googlie smurfing eye? They left so many stray hairs and made no attempt to smooth it out. Didn't even attempt to fix my mustache- I was like dude fix this catfish lookin mess, but I didn't say that. I should have. I was pissed. Don't even get me started on the lack of effort he put into my goatee and they dont even apply beard oil. All I can say is two months of beard growth - ruined for 10 bucks in under three minutes. I went home and have myself a proper trim right away out of fear of anyone seeing the hack job they gave me. I have been going to Rocky Hill for my cuts until my son and a couple of his Bobcat friends all got their haircut by "LT". He actually got them to change the way they were wearing their hair and couldn't believe the difference. So I went last Saturday and sure enough, he started to cut the way I normally wear it which was good, and then he stopped and suggested that I wear it a little different for more balance and easier maintenance which I did. IT WAS GREAT! My wife loved it and even my son, yeah my son, lol, even liked it. I needed a haircut very badly and came to Carrano's Barber Shoppe the other day on a recommendation of a friend. I was so pleasantly surprised at the professionalism, cleanliness, great aesthetics to a classic barbershop, and upbeat attitude of my barber. They are a cash-only business and they only take walk-ins. It reminds me of the days when my grandpa would take me to the old barbershop in town. It was a nice experience. My barber was great and did a fantastic job. I showed him a photo of a style I was looking for and stumbled over trying to explain, and he said "Just let me be in the driver seat." Went here due to High yelp rating which is in my opinion totally misrepresenting. I brought my 12 y son and gave clear instruction asking for a hair cut including a tapered neck. The fellow barber pulled out an electric cutter, without showing any barber skills, buzzing his head. It ended up that he even cut and nicked through my sons skin. We approached the owner who gave us a refund. My advice is that this place can only do buzz cuts and that skill set is very low as well. Don't be fooled by the sport bar feeling and cool sport stuff on the shelfs. read more

This is the only haircut/barber that I've ever loved. I've been coming here intermittently over last four years of medical school and these guys do it right every time. I've never had a bad haircut and I don't have to tell these guys much to have them do it up good. Love hanging out in the shop too with all the sports memorabilia and what not. It can get pretty busy on Saturday and it's tough sometimes to get there before they close after work but no worries. read more

I found Carrano's through a friend who knew Ron. At the time I was new to the area and in need of a new Barber. As soon as I walked in I felt like I was home. The shop had sports memorabilia all over the place, the TV always has something good on and it's such a comfortable atmosphere. From the waiting chairs to the barber chairs it's comfortable. For about 3 years now I've been going to see Ron every other week to get a haircut. I started going to Ron when he was second chair at another shop....I always liked how he took the extra time for detailing and remembered exactly how I like my hair despite the fact that they were high volume. Plus...Ron is way better to talk to than the "other guy" who always had to be the smartest guy in the room. I would gladly give 5 stars to the owner when he cuts my hair. But his employees suck. Last 2 times I got terrible hair cuts thanks to completely untrained or unskilled hands and I am not going back. If you decide to go there pray you get the owner or just shave your head off. read more
