My husband and I have used Carpet Corner in the past and been satisfied with their sales and customer service, but that is no longer the case.
To preface, 4 years ago, we moved into our home and needed to carpet a room. We went to Carpet Corner, spoke with their representative and she enthusiastically showed us multiple carpets. We chose a carpet from color and they installed it. The carpet was thick and the room felt luxurious. We have been happy with the carpet over the years, and it has held up well. We have told many friends and relatives and acquaintances that they should shop there, and likely sent them a lot of work over the years.
Unfortunately, 2020, there was a leak in the master bathroom that caused mold growth on the part of the carpet that was in the closet. Mold remediation specialists recommended that we have the entire carpet replaced throughout the master bedroom due to the risk of mold spread. We were working with our homeowner's insurance as well, and this was worked into the claim.
We remembered having great satisfaction with Carpet Corner, so we returned to them to discuss replacement options.
They were able to pull the receipt from 4 years ago, and notified us that that particular carpet had been discontinued. She told us that she had carpets that were comparable, in quality, to our previous carpet and that she would show them to us. We looked at the carpet samples that she stated were comparable and chose a color that was as close as we could find to our original carpet.
They came the following week for installation.
Once the new carpet was in, we noticed that it was not as plush as the original carpet. We noticed that the fibers were further spread apart and that it was easy to come into contact with the grid that the fibers are attached to. The padding underneath the carpet felt lumpy as well. We discussed this and decided that the type of carpet that we bought must have gone down in quality over the years. We were disappointed by this, but continued on.
Last evening (Wednesday, nearly 1 week after the carpet was installed) I walked across the threshold of the bedroom and was surprised painfully at a needle prick sensation which turned out to be the tack board poking through the carpeting into the bottom of my foot. We were able to locate each of the tacks along the doorway. This was never a concern with the previous carpet and we decided to contact Carpet Corner.
We were told to take a hammer and go around the doorways hammering the tack flat. We asked about the diminished overall quality of this carpet compared to the carpet that it was meant to replace and were shocked when the gentleman told us that it was a cheaper carpet than the one that we had installed a few years ago, and that it was what we could get for the same money. He stated "You were sold that carpet at a discount because we had it in the store. The carpet you bought this time is cheaper." This information was NOT disclosed to us prior to making the sale.
My husband and I are not unreasonable. We understand that inflation occurs, prices change, and sometimes, things that you love are discontinued. The problem isn't that our old carpet was no longer available; the problem is that the people that we worked with in this company intentionally misled us regarding the carpet and quality that we could expect. IF they had been honest at the beginning, we might have shopped around for price comparison, or opted for the cheaper carpet OR maybe we would have chosen to go ahead and spend more on a better quality carpet with them because we were treated well by them in the past. We weren't given the option. We were lead to believe that the carpet that they had for the same price was of the same quality. I believe that this was done by them in order to quickly make a sale. Effectually, they tricked us into paying to have them come in and downgrade the luxury of our Master Bedroom. We work hard on our home, and this has saddened us. We may have been able to afford to have the better carpet installed, but we cannot afford to pay for two carpets and two installations.
We will no longer be going to them for our flooring needs, and will no longer be endorsing them to friends and family. read more
