I scheduled what was supposed to be a routine preventive visit, which should have been covered at…read moreno cost. Instead, I was surprised to receive an additional bill for nearly $200. My time with the doctor was less than 15 minutes, and the experience felt rushed and unprofessional. When she entered the room, she was laughing with the interns and appeared distracted. She repeatedly looked at her phone, seemingly trying to review my medical history, but she did not appear to have the correct information. She asked me questions about services and procedures that were already documented in my chart, which made it seem like she had not reviewed my records before the appointment. She also told me--twice--that I had gained 12 pounds. That was incorrect. I had actually lost 2 pounds. Having such basic information wrong further reduced my confidence that my medical record was being reviewed accurately. When I called the office to ask why I received the additional charge, I was told it was because the doctor discussed medical conditions I already have. However, there were no changes to my treatment, no new concerns addressed, and no additional care provided beyond my routine preventive visit. I don't believe that brief discussion justified converting what I expected to be a bill-free preventive appointment into an additional charge of nearly $200. Between the unexpected billing, the lack of preparation, and the inaccuracies during the appointment, I left feeling disappointed and frustrated. Patients deserve providers who come to appointments prepared, review their records in advance, and clearly explain any services that could result in additional charges before they are billed.

In August 2026, my father sought emergency medical care at Tanner after experiencing hematuria…read more(blood in his urine), which ultimately required emergency surgery. Dr. Ludwig, the urologist on call at the time, provided exceptional care and went above and beyond to help my father through this difficult situation. My father later required a second procedure and chose to continue his care with Dr. Ludwig in Canton. Unfortunately, my father was subsequently diagnosed with malignant cancer and was advised that he would need BCG treatments once a week for six weeks. Because of the physical and emotional toll that making repeated trips to Canton would have on my parents, they decided to continue his treatment closer to home through West Georgia Urology - Carrollton. He was scheduled for an appointment with Dr. Rauch. Unfortunately, their experience was extremely disappointing and, quite frankly, heartbreaking. During the appointment, Dr. Rauch made comments that my parents found dismissive and insensitive. He reportedly said, "So now you will come here because it's convenient?" He then told them that BCG was on backorder, that it could take months to obtain, and that my father could simply be placed on a waiting list. This was particularly concerning because obtaining and arranging BCG treatment was the primary reason for the appointment. Dr. Rauch then suggested that my parents contact Dr. Ludwig to see if he could get my father back into his care. Rather than feeling welcomed or supported during an incredibly frightening and vulnerable time, my parents left feeling as though they had been pushed away. It is deeply upsetting to know that someone who has just received a malignant cancer diagnosis could be made to feel so dismissed when seeking care and guidance. Regardless of the circumstances, patients and their families deserve compassion, empathy, respect, and clear communication--especially when facing a serious and life-changing diagnosis. I sincerely hope that Dr. Rauch never has to experience this type of situation personally or watch someone he loves go through it. If he or someone in his family ever does, I hope they are fortunate enough to receive the compassion and understanding that my father deserved. As a result of this experience, my parents have decided to continue making the drive to Canton to receive care from Dr. Ludwig. Although the distance is inconvenient, they believe it is well worth the trip to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect. I hope this experience is taken seriously and that steps are taken to ensure that other patients facing serious diagnoses do not leave an appointment feeling as dismissed and unsupported as my parents did.
