At first it didn't look like much, just an old cruddy pub in the suburbs (though a pretty fancy suburb), however when I stepped out the back into the beer garden the atmosphere did pick up somewhat. The W has two pools, both on high floors overlooking the city scape. There's a fancy restaurant as well as a bar that serves food. (if you want to eat at the fancy restaurant book a reservation in advance. It fills up!). When you first check in, you get a free drink at Living Room bar, which has a $30 value. The only negatives were the bathroom is very dark, the shower was hard to work (hot/cold turn opposite ways), and In Room Dining was 30 minutes late, making me late to my wine tasting tour.

I stayed in…read morethe Penthouse 2 WOW suite and it was fantastic -- spacious, stylish, and thoughtfully designed with great views and all the comfort you'd expect from a luxury hotel. The room itself easily felt five-star and made the stay feel special. The property has a sleek, modern vibe and is well located in Woolloomooloo, making it convenient while still feeling a bit removed from the busiest parts of the city. The common areas are polished and visually impressive, and the overall atmosphere feels upscale and energetic. Where the experience fell short was service consistency. While some staff were friendly and professional, others didn't quite deliver the level of attentiveness you'd expect from a five-star hotel. A few interactions felt rushed or indifferent, which took away from what was otherwise a very strong stay. Overall, the excellent suite and beautiful property carry this hotel to a solid four stars. With more consistent, refined service across the board, the W Sydney could easily live up to its luxury reputation. Hopefully over the next three days it improves. Will update.

They registered us in and took my cell to notify me when the room would be available if it's earlier than the regular check-in time. Our luggage was promptly stored by the concierge. Soon after, we got a notification that the room was already available, much earlier than we expected. After getting our keys and going upstairs to check out our room, our luggage was already laying there. The hotel also has a decent size gym though I must say it's not the best I've been to. They do have a very nice indoor swimming pool and jacuzzi. The breakfast is pretty good and has a nice variety. The best part of the hotel though in my opinion is its proximity to a lot of attractions including just a 10 min walk to the harbor and Sydney Opera House. It's located in the Rock neighborhood so lots of restaurants to choose from. It's also only a 10 min walk to George street which is the one of the main shopping and walking streets in Sydney. My only negative feedback is that the hotel seems a bit dated to me and the furniture, bathroom, and carpets need an upgrade / remodel.

The lobby is cool (temp wise) and beautiful. It was still decorated for Christmas when we arrived on 12/29. The staff is exceptional! They're so helpful and kind! We weren't sure how NYE itself would turn out, so we opted for a Darling Harbour view; just in case we ended up having to stay in the room for the night. We had a corner suite on the 8th floor with a great view for people watching in the Harbour. There are a couple buildings between the hotel and the Harbour, so you won't get panoramic views of the bay or water, and it was a bit awkward having our windows face some office building across the street; but with the holidays, it was empty most of the time anyway. The bathroom is a bit slick so be careful in the shower. ;) they supply Kevin Murphy toiletries and pretty much any basics you need! The TVs are decently sized flat panel and dish based. Plenty of windows, mirrors, outlets, and SPACE! There's a cute little patio/sun room with floor to ceiling windows, in the corner of the suite with the best view of the Harbour. It was a cute touch to a fab room! The bed and couch are comfortable enough. The kitchen is very nicely equipped with everything you need: stove, fridge, freezer, conv oven, microwave, sink, coffee/tea maker, washer/dryer, and all the soaps, supplies, utensils, and dishes to use them all! And with the meat and fish markets a mere 20m walk away, it was a perfect way to enjoy a deliciously fresh home cooked meal away from home! And when you don't want to cook, there's an amazing amount of great eateries on the harborside to one end, or CBD on the other. Just about 20m walk to the Opera House, all the major hot spots within reach. I would definitely stay here again in a heartbeat!
