Caroline continues to provide excellent and caring instruction via FaceTime. She caters her instruction to each student's needs and interests and makes excellent repertoire recommendations. My daughter played everything from popular songs to classical duets with Caroline, all while learning theory, rhythm, technique, and all that goes into making good music. Although my daughter had to stop taking lessons because of her own schedule conflicts, it was a very sad day when my daughter had her last flute lesson with Caroline. Caroline has been my daughter's flute teacher since she was in middle school (she is now a senior). She has helped my daughter really grow musically and stylistically and meet challenges. Caroline Reutter is all of these things and much more. I have been lucky enough to have known Caroline for the past 10 years, and have been her student for 7. I began my lessons with her when I was a mere 6th grader, and continued with her through my senior year of high school. Caroline never failed to challenge me in the pieces she assigned, never failed to help me prepare to my very best ability for auditions or school concerts, and never failed to give her honest and helpful critique and advice to help me advance as a flutist. I can quite honestly say I could not have held my principal position in my high school ensembles had it not been for her help and guidance. One thing that sets Caroline a part from other private instructors is the recital she holds for all her different students at the end of each school year. Everyone gets together in great spirits, and enjoys music from each student at a variety of experience levels. It always turns out to be a great afternoon of excitement and nerves (for some younger students, they've never performed on their own...another great skill to acquire and fear to overcome!), as well as music enjoyed by all. My mom found Caroline when I wanted to start playing flute in 2nd grade and have been taking lessons from her for going on 10 years now. I've pretty much grown up with her as a constant in my week. She is a very kind, patient, and talented teacher, who is always there to help me, whether it be by working on pieces for my school Chamber group, or explaining different tips and tricks for improving my playing. Because of Covid-19, we are not able to do in person lessons anymore, but the transition to FaceTime lessons went very smoothly and are just as effective as in person lessons. As a parent of a 9 year old beginning flute player, I was apprehensive in reaching out for a private tutor for my son. On a whim, at a fund raiser at my school, I won a bit for 2 private flute lessons with Caroline and we were NOT disappointed. After the 2 lessons, we did not return for several months but Caroline reached out to us and asked if we would like to continue and we decided to move forward- the best decision we made! Although we only have been talking lessons for less that 2 months, I can see that my son truly enjoys working with her and so does Caroline! She came home with a flyer asking if I could contact Caroline and get her lessons. Boy, did my girl make a good choice. Caroline was (she no longer is my daughters teacher - 'cause we recently moved) encouraging, loving & kept the discipline of the class while keeping it fun for her. I have two young adults that have taken flute from Caroline since they were 8. My older son is independent, bold and distractible and he loved taking flute with her. My younger daughter is self motivated, studies hard and is easy going and she loved taking flute with Caroline. I was so impressed that Caroline could find a way to nurture the love of music in two such different children. My daughter still is taking lessons at the age of 17, and I am sure will continue into college. Additionally, she has taught herself two more instruments, I do not think she would have done so without the grounding in music that Caroline imparted. the absolute best! I started looking for flute teacher in sixth grade and went through a few before I started with Caroline. I took lessons from her for seven years (until I graduated high school) and could not have asked for a better teacher or friend. She made learning about music and playing the flute fun and comfortable. I am a very anxious and self-conscious person but Caroline gave me confidence in my abilities that opened me up to so many incredible opportunities throughout high school. Even now that I have graduated, we still meet for coffee and chats every couple months and the occasional lesson. We found Caroline at the Hope Street Music Studio in Mountain View at a moment where my daughter desired more personalized instruction and a somewhat faster pace than she was getting in her public school music class. We had shopped around for a good teacher and after a few false starts knew we had found a great fit in Caroline. She is extremely patient, encouraging, and makes my daughter excited about playing the flute. She also does a great job supplementing the school curriculum so her private lessons and school work go hand in hand. Caroline's private lessons are not inexpensive, and her schedule availability in Mountain View is somewhat limited since she only has a few days down this way, but for our family we are more than willing to make it work for the love of music she is instilling in our daughter.
