She arrived apologetically, however a call to the host would have been nice and since now we are almost 30 mins in to our 3 hr set up time, you'd think she would have offered to assist. Outside of that. It is a wonderful venue so long as you bring enough decorations to transform it into your own event. They are not strict, and allow access to kitchen amenities. I came here Tuesday for the (free) weekly "world tavern poker" games, first one at 6:30pm. It's a…read morefriendly fast-paced group of 3 or 4 tables of six to eight. I finished "in the points" this time! It's held in the hall that you get to through the small bar. You get to the bar through a door with the Canteen sign above it off the parking lot. It's a very low-key place, with some VFW memorabilia. As a non-member, I signed in by the door. The decor is old and homey. There's around a dozen seats at the small bar, but i dont recall if there were any tables. There are some kind of lottery or scratch-off ticket machines, and a tv. The bartender keeps things moving, and there's a simple menu, hot dogs, pizza, cheeseburgers, chicken nuggets and fingers, a philly cheese steak, fries, and more. The burger was hot and juicy, and i think it may have been microwaved. Tasted fine. The fries were pretty good and piping hot. The people all seemed friendly and relaxed. If your at all cool, you wont find much for you here, but if you're just a regular person, this seems like a nice place for a quiet drink and some regular food.

Although the primary focus of the center is to assist disabled veterans with finding career opportunities in the Washington DC area, many of their workshops and events are open to the local veteran community and are held primarily during weekday daytime hours. They also run the Washington DC Kaufman FastTrac class for new and aspiring military veteran entrepreneurs. I came here for the FastTrac program, which I'd highly recommend to anyVET who's contemplating owning and operating their own business. You do have to sign in at the front desk of the building, but sometimes the concierge is inconsistent so I'm not sure if it's a building thing or what - either way be sure to check in with the front desk. There are other nonprofits that inhabit the building but I'm not sure about their mission/focus. At the veterans center on the 2nd floor there's restrooms, two classrooms and a mini-lounge area with materials about other veterans-centric programs/events occurring in the area. They're not open on the weekends but I think that's because the building itself isn't open then. Yelled at her when she tried to play a slot machine because she wasn't a member rather than just informing her. There were no postings about it. Then when they were done with their drinks, they pushed their drinks aside and got up to leave and the bartender quickly opened another beer and told him he had to pay for it and argued with him about it. That he needed to play the bottle down if he didn't want another. It was just all around an awful and purely rude experience. Staff and customers need to be completely redone and traded out for fresh and kinder models. Bitterness and rudeness isn't cute y'all.
