By far, the entire crew at Smiles by Design is the most pleasant dental staff I've visited. Everyone from reception to the hygienist to Dr. Schraw is professional, friendly, and efficient. My son's first dentist visit was with Dr. Schraw. We thought about taking him to a specialized pediatric only practice for his first visit, just to make sure we wasn't scared off. We ultimately decided to go to Dr. Schraw based on neighborhood word of mouth from other parents. My son loved the experience (it was a pretty low key visit with lots of fun distractions just to make it enjoyable for him). He was talking about it for days. The billing/insurance process has been very smooth for me. For me, I clearly understood the total fees and our estimated financial responsibility for our insurance plan. That's about as good as it gets for the chaos that is medical billing. The only comment I've given to Dr. Schraw before is I wish she had the Prophy-Jet in her office. It's a very cool machine that "sand blasts" your teeth with baking soda. I had a crazy expensive dentist in NYC on Central Park West that used the Prophy... I'm not sure how much it really helped overall, but, it left your teeth feeling amazingly clean afterwards. UPDATE: turns out Dr. Schraw does have a prophy-jet! According to Mandi, the hygienists typically only use it for patients with significant build-up. However, you can request it during your cleaning. This is one dentist I'll be happy to see every six months.

I had all my metal fillings taken out and replaced with porcelain and experienced severe pain and tooth sensitive afterwards, all they kept pushing on me was Botox Botox Botox. Desperate for a solution, I caved and spent $1,400 in Botox for a temporary relief. I went to another practice for a second opinion, turns out my bite was off - they fixed it and I haven't had issues since. Do your research and consider the multiple bad reviews before risking it.

I changed dentists to Orchards Grove Family dentistry, Dr Katie Makken. In hindsight it was the…read moreworst decision I made in the last ten years. At first they seemed nice and understanding but very soon they didn't give anything about my opinion, She didn't give me advise, she just gave some possibilities and I had to pick one. The decision was to go with implants and a upper denture. Besides the implants, I paid almost $10,000.00 for an ill fitting denture that had not the correct color. She started out with making a hole in the denture whgile fitting the connectors for the implants. She repaired that terribly. A week later the denture broke because of the bad fit. She repaired that with a sort of black glue that didn't look good. The front of the denture was so high that it touched my sinuses and I had a headache the whole day. She didn't want to lower the front part and didn't want to raise the base with 3 mm. When I complained for the second time she handed me a letter with the message that I had to find a different dentist and was to welcome anymore. After I had a headache for about a year I found a very good dentist who at once lowered the front and my headache is almost totally gone. This very good dentist is Jennifer Loveland and she is in Tega Cay. This is a dentist you want to be working in your mouth. For the denture she will start over.
