The actual move was good. We had no problems and the guys who came were very professional. BUT…read morecustomer service with Amy afterwards has been nothing but a disaster. Our payment bounced. Completely my fault. We had some unsual bills due to my son's death and we accidently were overdrawn. Again completely my fault. However as soon as Amy contacted me about the returned check, I immediately paid her over the phone with a credit card. I then received a letter in the mail from a collection agency that I owe them for the bounced check. I called Amy and she assured me it is an issue she will take care of and not to worry everything is good. 2 weeks later I get another letter. IT is still not taken care of. I call Amy back. Again I am told she will take care of it and she has talked to the agency and not sure why I got another letter. So I called the agency. I was told by them that I STILL owe them the money because they have already paid Amy/Preferred moving. I explained I had paid her and can show proof of payment. They tell me that I still owe them also. They proceed to also tell me that they have sent Amy/Preferred moving multiply emails, all unreturned and made several phone calls, all unanswered or returned about this account still being unresolved. So right now Amy/Preferred Moving is still on a double payment for my move. Not a very honest way to do business in my opinion.

They had to come back the next day because they didn't finish. I had to leave. The washer/ dryer was still there along with tv's. Mirrors and pictures. The guy in charge assured me he would get everything else left. When I got everything 6 months later delivered to my new condo, there was damage to a lamp. Lamp shade and chandelier. The Sony tv was missing along with my two windowpane mirrors that they just left there. I texted Denby four times. One time he called to say he had the Sony tv but was just too busy to deliver it to me. Recently I sent a written demand and it has just been ignored By the way, he charged me $3,800 to move me out to his storage facility and $350 per month. I think that he should honor my claim for loss but I have received nothing

In one day, they packed up the truck in NC and delivered it to VA the next day without any breakage or loss. They even loaded my refrigerator on the back door of the truck so it could be plugged in over night for the next day's delivery with no loss of frozen food. All the crew members were respectful of our properties. PS: I do recommend a big jar of Halloween candy. It seems they each have a sweet tooth.

The arguments got so heated one of the workers left the site. They dropped furniture, damaged walls and trim work in the house where they were packing up and damaged trim work in the house that they were delivering the furniture. Hellen (the owner I think) tried to maintain peace but had no impact. The arguments between the crew never stopped and slowed down the whole move requiring two days to move. Without asking the moving crew went into refridgerators and pantries to get food. Used the microwave to warm up food without asking. Made themselves comfortable in the kitchen to eat lunch and never cleaned up. Smoked on the back porch and left ashes everywhere. Used every single bathroom in the house and broke a toilet paper holder in one of the bathrooms. Several pieces of furniture were scraped up because of poor inexperienced handling (ussually by one person when two were necessary to move it). They scraped furniture over floors rather then picking them up causing damage to floors. They forced large upolstered furniture through door opennings rather than picking them up and angling them through the door. They used furniture pads that were old and dusty. They still have one piece of furniture that they are trying to repair. I have used movers over 15 times up and down the east coast and by far Byers is the worst movers I have ever encountered. I would not recommend using them for your move.

They hired men from a drug rehab facility in Hickory. After unpacking we realized how much of our property had been stolen. First a pressure washer that I paid about $700 for then a tool box full of tools. The list goes on but you get the picture. I hired two men to help them and my guys loaded the pressure washer and tool box on a trailer. The Ashe men asked my guys to leave for a few minutes. I discovered the missing items after I paid Ashe. I admit I was distracted by a family member's life threating medical condition at the time.
