However, when I showed up for the first day of class, the New Manager, Kelly, tells me that they don't have my son signed up for that class and there's "no room in the class for him to stay". She confirmed that she did in fact see my payment in the system, but not assigned to any specific class because Casey, the former manager, did not assign me to a class even though she told me that I was paying for the Friday class. Ultimately, I decided to not stay with Drawn2Art because I found it ridiculous that they wanted us, the people showing up on time to take the class that they paid for, instead of telling one of the make-up parents that the class is full and to have them reschedule. And no, being in transition into the role is not a valid excuse, especially when you see a payment from us in the system with no assigned class. The manager should have followed up with this at the beginning of the week to ensure that the customer is assigned to a class, and not wait until they show up for class the day of with a you're SOL demeanor.

My daughter had a birthday party here today. When I called to arrange the party, the staff member…read moreI spoke with was very helpful. My daughter wanted a smaller party, with herself and 4 guests and they were very accommodating. We chose the "dazzling davinci" package, which includes a full size picture. When we arrived for the party, I informed that we had only had 2 people confirmed to attend, and one was going to be late (softball picture day, apparently). The staff said this was no problem, and said we could start as they came in. My daughter and her first guest got started, but while a staff sat and gave step by step to the friend, my daughter was given starter instructions and I had to prompt not once or twice but many times for the next steps. The third guest arrived shortly after and a second staff sat with her, again giving step by step instructions while my daughter, the birthday girl, was left hanging. This was quite frustrating, but my kid took it in stride. A third guest arrived when our time was almost up, so while I understand she couldn't complete a whole picture, we were told that she could free paint but they were out of full size paper (which of course, we had paid for! ) . The package was also supposed to include nail art (or glass coloring), which they did not do. We were supposed to have had a reserved party area for 2 hours, but another party was scheduled to overlap ours which was incredibly awkward, so we rushed through cupcakes and snacks, etc. The "deluxe" party favor included 3 dumdum lollipops, a hard candy, a cheap plastic ring and a tiny plastic wand. They did accomodate face paintings for the late guests, which was nice. However, I was disappointed in their uneven distribution of attention, and running out of the supplies we had paid for. Over all, I likely won't reccomend a party here.

On one of my Milwaukie walkabouts, this outdoor gallery was a recent discovery. I've enjoyed city…read morehall's seasonal displays before, but somehow had missed this sculpture garden at the side of the building by the transit center. This small outdoor garden was first opened in 2010 and has six pedestals that display a rotating collection (they swap out half of the pieces annually) of sculptures. Since all of the pieces are on loan, if you fall in love (or seriously in like) with a piece it may be on sale. I like that they intentionally chose to exhibit a variety of pieces that are intended to be interactive (make noise, spin or swing). All of these elements make it an ideal introduction to art for children. And it is free! Of the current collection, I spent the most time looking at what I call "Redrum." It is a metal sculpture of a woman but she is facing out on each side. The side facing the street is rather voluptuous (considering she's a metal frame), while the back side is definitely more of a bare frame and a bit scary. It reminds me of the Terminator without it's skin. I always enjoy a gallery where something stops me in my tracks. The other pieces are light and bright, reaching towards the sky or a collection of shapes. Since it is located directly across the street from the Milwaukie Sunday Farmer's Market, I highly encourage you to incorporate a visit here into your shopping trip. This gallery was made possible through a grant from artMOB (Art-Milwaukie on Board). Kudos for their efforts!
