Quiche and greens.

The tour gal was super friendly and nice, though we didn't ever catch her actual name. And some of the points of interest were helpful and interesting. The places we were taken to wasn't as nice as we expected with all the amazing restaurants in Carmel. We started at Patisserie Boissiere, then Cafe Carmel, then honey tasting, Toro Japanese, and a Dutch Door Donut. The ads and previous viewers posted more upscale places, and showed cocktail tasting. So what we experienced felt more like a bait and switch deal. The French restaurant was yummy. However, having French Onion soup and wine to start at 11:00 was a bit odd as their pastries might have been a better option (their pastries are made in house). Cafe Carmel was more like a deli feeling, and certainly not upscale or special at all. We spent the most time at Toro Japanese food, with 3 courses. Which seemed strange as we thought we'd experience more different restaurants and different. Especially since two in our party did not really enjoy Japanese cuisine enough to want it as the main event. The honey tasting included 4 quarter teaspoons of samples with tiny bits to match the honey. The donuts were fabulous but seemed odd as we had to stand outside the shop and eat it without any fanfare. The food options just seemed meh. Not worth the $150 per person. It looks like they used to take people to much nicer and more upscale places. For what we got it seemed rather minimal and standard. French onion soup, quiche with a mound of greens, mini honey tasting, and a $5.50 donut.

Bonnie is fantastic, local knowledge, fun, inviting, very organized and worth considering for a way to sample and learn about Carmel!

First question, "is it worth it?" My answer, yes! We toured five different venues as well as historic points of interest and some fun secret passages Carmel is known for. We took the advice of our guide Rusti and "put aside our self imposed dietary restrictions" to experience food and drinks we would not normally have thought to try on our own. At the same time they were very accommodating members of our group who had food allergies. "Do you get enough food?" Yes, I did not leave hungry. "How was the tour guide?" Our guide Rusti did a fantastic job. We were honored that our tour was her first tour she guided. You wouldn't know it. She handled the tour like a seasoned pro. An unexpected pleasure of the tour were the two other couples joining us. Their stories only enhanced our enjoyment of an already well planned adventure. I highly recommend anyone new to Carmel to take this tour.

This was a fun tour: Veronica was fun and knowledgeable about the area and showed us some quirky little spots. Loved the hidden alleys. The spicy Italian sausage at Nielsen Bros. was great. The tempura cauliflower at the taproom was my favorite.

8/27/22- Carmel Food Tours (CFT) was so much fun and would highly recommend for people out of town. We have booked various food tours this is our 8th excursion and we loved all of them but Brian was thee best. Our tour guide was awesome, attentive and knowledgeable. We not only loved the food tasting but also fun facts and history of Carmel.

French Onion Soup, our first stop on the tour

Bonnie was our guide, and she was wonderful, knowledgeable, and an actual local who grew up there. She shared history and background as we walked. We visited a nice variety of restaurants, finishing the tour with Lula's chocolate! Food served included: French Onion soup, Quiche & salad, Chili, Naan Pizza. We walked in between, so although it sounds like a lot of food it was perfect. Although not a restaurant, we also visited "The Nut Hut" where we were given multiple samples of flavored organic nuts and fruits.

Bonnie led us on this well paced and organized food tour. We stopped at 6 different restaurants and had different small bites and at each. Plenty of bar drinks and wine were available too. All were wonderful! We felt truly welcomed at each spot by the wait staff and even a couple of the owners. Bonnie did a wonderful job of sharing interesting stories about the area and gave us a lot of recommendations of restaurants and points of interest. It lasted 3 hours but seemed to fly by. We came on a Thursday and were lucky to have a small group of 5. After this tour we changed our upcoming reservation for dinner tonight!

Great way to explore several fun spots around town. Learned a bit about the history, had sizable portions of food and drink while walking around, and got inspired to go back to one of the restaurants because the food was that good (Mission Bistro). Loved our tour guide, Bonnie, and her knowledge of Carmel and all the hidden gems! The pacing of the tour and food was perfect. I would definitely do it again!

First time visiting Carmel and we really enjoyed the tour & getting to hear about Carmel from a local. We got to sample mushroom risotto, honey, tapas, cashews, donuts along with several wines & beers. Plenty to eat & see without too much walking.

Chocolate tasting

We had the best time with Amber on our food tour. I knew it was going to be a great tour after the first stop. We got a meatloaf slider with a fried onion ring and it was amazing. After that we stopped for a sausage at one of the oldest markets in Carmel. We did a honey and chocolate tasting, had street tacos with fried grasshopper and mezcalita and one of the best eclairs I've ever had. Every stop was amazing. Portions were generous and while we finished everything, most people in the group were not able to finish everything. I'd definitely recommend this tour since you explore all the little charming side streets that would be easily missed otherwise.

And Brion, the owner/tour guide is seriously great. He's incredibly knowledgeable about the Santa Cruz area, the history behind it, and the local restaurants dined at during the tour. Here are some of the highlights you get on the tour: + Brion - totally awesome host! + Tons of history of the Santa Cruz area, the REAL facts behind the SC Mission, history of the railway system, facts about the beautiful architecture surrounding downtown, and much, much more! + Insanely great food at local restaurants - all restaurants Brion has picked on this tour have a story behind them, area local to the area, and are DELICIOUS One of the best things about this tour is that although I'm semi-local to Santa Cruz, I learned SO much I hadn't previously known about the areas and dined at places I never would have otherwise. This tour opens up new ways to enjoy the Santa Cruz area. Although it's the same tour each time I've attended, I've learned a little more about the area, tried something slightly different then I did before, and got to enjoy this fantastic experience with someone new each time. :) TIP: Book as early as possible because the tour dates fill up FAST.

Do not pass go, do not collect $200... book this tour now!…read more https://www.montereyherbalist.com/book-online My wife and I did the 'Foraging & Wild Hors D'oeuvres Tasting' with Lianne and it was such a gorgeous way to spend a Sunday afternoon. It started with the foraging tour, learning about edible and medicinal plants, and ended with a delightful hors d'oeuvres tasting of yummy snacks featuring foraged edibles. We are locals, and I would recommend this for locals and tourists alike. We are not experts at wild edibles and/or medicinal plants, but do know a thing or two, and this tour was perfect. Lianne does a great job making everything really accessible, and I feel like we really expanded our knowledge in a way that is both practical and really sparked a desire to learn more about the amazing plants all around us here on the Monterey peninsula. It's so clear how much Lianne cares about the care and stewardship of these natural treasures just as much as introducing folks to them. I was heartened to have her guidance and was reminded of how just being a tiny bit more thoughtful about the plants around us helps stewardship go a long way. Weather/season permitting you will get to nibble on stuff along the tour, but one tiny recommendation would be to make sure you eat a decent meal beforehand (which I forgot to do). It was so exciting working up to the tasting that I had to exercise a little restraint to really savor the experience and not gobble everything up. Thanks for everything, Lianne!

I ended up taking the Private Tesla tour and I have to tell you, that is the way to do it! Prior to the tour, they took my wine preferences to make a customized route of tasting rooms. Since we took the private tour, the Tesla arrived at our hotel to pick us up, which was incredibly convenient and saved us an Uber. Our tour guide Jake was absolutely fantastic. He was personable, knowledgeable on wine and so friendly! One by one we visited each tasting room, and each had a different vibe. There is nothing cookie cutter about this tour. We didn't feel ANY pressure to purchase bottles at any location either (even though we left with atleast one from each anyways). During our tastings, Jake booked us a dinner at a restaurant in Carmel, took our bags to and from the car and helped us navigate the rest of our trip in Monterey- it was like having a personal concierge the whole time. After we finished our tastings, we were taken to the beach where we got to watch the sun set and my goodness was it beautiful! To finish off the trip, we were dropped off at our dinner restaurant. I was WOWed from start to finish. I would 100% recommend this tour if you're in the area. Whether it's the private tour or the bus tour, you will not be disappointed!

Our tour group ended up just being the two of us with our lovely guide, Jake. At first, we were a little bummed because we assumed it would be a dinner date with a presenter but it couldn't have gone any better. Jake is such a fun character! He's knowledgeable (taught us a lot), personable, stylish and charismatic. He's passionate about life, wine and was a great conversationalist. We went to 4 different restaurants and each place treated us to a lovely meal and drink or two. Each place was different and had its own style, cuisine and atmosphere. 1. Portabello- first up was duo 1/2 cups of soup: the mushroom bisque and the crab & corn bisque. Let me tell you as a crab fanatic that I probably could have ate the whole pot of that crab bisque. It was so rich and decadent 1a. Our second dish was a mushroom risotto. Also delicious and this was a much bigger portion. 1b. This was all paired with a glass of local Pinot Noir which delicious and medium bodied as well as a glass of Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand which was crisp, refreshing and wonderful fruit notes. I'm not a big white wine fan but I would buy this bottle. The owner came out and introduced himself, made small talk and then let us know that he would see us at the last restaurant since he owns it as well. 2. Flying fish - this place was our second stop and it was packed! I was immediately excited as obviously this was a good sign of things to come. Got greeted by a lovely waiter (sorry forgot his name) and presented us with an Asian ginger salsa and wonton chips as a light starter. It was a nice surprise and the flavor was not overpowering. He then poured us a local Chardonnay which was okay but we both weren't a fan. The waiter then recommended us to pick one of the two house favorites. We decided to go with the Almond Sea Bass. Oh em gee!! This was amazing! The fish was buttery and literally melted away in our mouth with the whipped potato and cabbage. I was sad we only had one to share. 3. Il Grilo - the owner is very innovative and it's reflected in his dishes. We had the liver pate which definitely was a surprise. Not our first choice of things we'd select but when in Rome... it was surprisingly better than I thought it would be. We enjoyed the pork cheek pasta a lot more . This was paired with a red wine (can't remember the name) 4. Dametra Cafe, lies nowhere else. - dessert! Can we have a moment of silence for the baklava and tiramisu!!! The best I have ever had! I'm from New York the melting pot of the U.s and I thought I had the best when I was there but nope I was wrong! The baklava was sooooo flaky, crispy, sweet and sticky. The caramel drizzle and whipped cream on top was heaven! I literally ate 2/3 by myself. And I definitely ate 1/2 of that tiramisu. Light fluffy, rich, chocolatey, coffee and cheesy. Sounds like a lot but it was perfection. I couldn't help myself, I really didn't want to share. Luckily my partner in crime and Jake were kind enough to oblige my selfishness. This was paired with a lovely port / dessert wine. Fabulous! To end the night at the restaurant, we were treated to a lovely surprise... a live performance by the owner and his friend el cantante. It was beautiful and really set a mood of just love, fun, and living life to enjoy these type of moments that are truly once in a lifetime. It's soooooo hard to say which one was my favorite but I will say this, we left the evening satisfied and full but not stuffed (which is a good thing). Why? Because it was a walking food tour as well. So we burned off some of those delicious calories. The only criticism I could come up with is potentially asking future clients what their wine preferences are and if there are any foods they don't like or aren't willing to try. Other than that, this was fantastic and we are so glad we did this tour!

Brian, the tour guide, is full of a wealth of historical and foodie knowledge. I've lived in Santa Cruz for about 6 years and had never heard most of the stuff he told us! We went for the food, but got a fascinating history lesson in the process! During our tour we visited the following locations: Bloomsbury Tea Room Paradise Beach Grille Shadowbrook Gayle's Bakery The Tea Room had a yummy selection of scones with amazing jams and lemon curd. There were finger sandwiches and quiches, along with a large selection of teas. At Gayle's we had a yummy chocolate treat, and learned all about the history of the bakery. Paradise Beach Grille (which you should go to even if you don't take this tour) was amazing as always with a delightful shrimp dish. From there we made our way to Shadowbrook where we had delicious pork sliders and a scrumptious salad while learning all about the fascinating history of the restaurant and the site itself. Any of these restaurants are worth checking out by themselves, so to eat at all four of them is a real treat! Note: it looks like the tour now goes to Geisha Sushi instead of Gayle's Bakery - if there was any place that could be an acceptable substitute for Gayle's, it's Geisha! Love that place too!
