Very disappointed with CarMax. Before purchasing, I specifically told the salesperson that I only wanted to use my Capital One financing and did not want a separate CarMax credit inquiry. I asked directly whether CarMax would run my credit and was told only Capital One would pull it. We even have an email from the salesperson confirming that understanding. After the purchase, a CarMax hard inquiry appeared on my credit report. When I questioned it, management changed the explanation and said I had authorized it through the electronic application process. What frustrated me most was the lack of accountability. The store told me to call Corporate. Corporate spent over an hour transferring me around and then told me the store had to handle it. The store then pointed me back elsewhere. No one seemed willing to take ownership of the issue or address the conflicting information we were given. Sadly our incredible experience turned into a huge nightmare... the Audi we ended up falling in love with, had to be bought back from Carmax 2 months after we bought it and we had to purchase a different vehicle.. we had craziness happen the first week we had the Audi to where we didn't have our car for a whole month and it always felt like something was wrong or wasn't getting fixed.. my husband had to actually go to the Sahara location to purchase the new vehicle since Centennial didn't have anything he liked. All in all it was a wild couple of weeks and being disappointed.. it was all so exhausting and overwhelming, a huge let down honestly but lesson learned - we won't be visiting Carmax again. read more

This was my 3rd visit, and this time I was finally ready to sell my car Lexus RX 350. I went straight to the counter and told the lady assisting me that I was there to sell my car. I handed her the appraisal paper, both keys, and the car registration. She asked for my driver's license and payoff statement. I asked where I could email the payoff statement, and she gave me an email address. I forwarded the payoff statement email and even sent screenshots several times, but it would not go through. She then gave me a second email address, but it still did not work. The entire time, the lady assisting me was not helpful at all. She never smiled and acted as if helping me was a burden. There was absolutely no customer service. I even asked if I could use one of the desktops since I was only using my cellphone, and she simply pointed to a computer without offering any assistance. After trying for nearly 2 hours, she finally told me that I would need to come back with a printed copy of the payoff statement. This was already my 3rd visit, and nobody had informed me beforehand that I needed a physical copy. She could have told me that right from the beginning instead of making me waste hours trying to email documents that clearly were not going through. As I was leaving frustrated and disappointed, a lady named Z noticed me and asked what happened. I explained the situation and how disappointed I was with the customer service. She immediately apologized and said she would get the managers. Two managers came over and asked me what happened. I explained everything again. One of the managers asked another employee, Elizabeth, if she could handle the situation. Elizabeth eventually helped complete the process, and everything was finished in just 15 minutes -- after I had already been there for 2 hours. While Elizabeth did apologize later, I do not give her full credit because she was present earlier when the first employee had asked her to check whether the email had gone through, and she did not step in at that time. The real person who saved my day was Z. She showed genuine concern, professionalism, and excellent customer service. She was the only one who made me feel heard and valued as a customer. Z was truly my angel that day. I will never come back and will not recommend this location. Very poor customer service , wouldn't even give one star. Bought my truck from this location. I love my truck. The sales part was great. But SERVICE DEPARTMENT IS HORRIBLE AT THIS LOCATION AND SAHARA. If you drop off your vehicle here. You will never get a phone call with updates. The receptionist will give you attitude. And tell you that no one is available ever. Even the manager. The manager will ONLY reach out when you call Carmax corporate. And the techs will make your vehicle worse then what it was when you brought it in. As well as tell you that no problems were found. I attached pictures to this for everyone to see that fluid residue on a differential is "no problem found". The original problems and complaints started with this location. They told me that they did an alignment on my vehicle as well. And when i got it back it's the same. And when I took it an actual alignment shop. The alignment was 205$ out of pocket. Not including "camber bolts" that are needed to do an alignment. And it was never even touched by Carmax. (When they stated the did a 4 wheel alignment). I will never step foot in another Carmax location again. And when my vehicle has more problems. I will take it to the actual dealership and pay a higher deductible, because I never want to experience the frustration and blood boil with Carmax. read more

My son purchased his first car at the CarMax Ontario, which was a great experience in itself. He was then stationed at Nellis a few days later, and very suddenly an issue came up with the car that needed to be addressed under the warranty. His new work schedule was inconsistent, and the service department at all locations in Las Vegas were booked up. Needless to say we were both frustrated... he was alone and new in town, worried about his car, with little time to commit to an appointment at a later date. RENEE in the service dept. came to our rescue. Not only did she work around his schedule and his need to drop the car off immediately, she also helped him get into a rental while they assessed and completed the repair. She was absolutely wonderful, understood our unique situation, communicated regularly with both my son and me during the process, and helped get him back into his new car very quickly. In a situation where I felt like I needed to be there, she took over as a mother!! She even followed up a day later just to let me know that we could reach out again if anything ever came up! Update to my previous review. I had to return the truck. It left me stranded on Hwy 160 as I was driving out to Pahrump. The transmission oil cooler blew emptying the transmission oil. I noticed smoke in the passenger side view mirror and then saw the transmission oil temp gauge pegged full hot. I pulled over and called for a ride. I had the truck towed back to Carmax where I decided to return it. Lucky for me I decided to take a drive long enough to really test it out before the 10 day return window was over. read more

My blue book value is 9 k Plus my truck has extras like a snug top, and a small 3 " lift. I had 1 code for the catalytic converter. Hauled a few engines around in the back, kinda smelled like gas in the back of the truck. Truck runs smooth as could be. They claimed the car smelled like gas in the outside, and that there was multiple engine codes. I just had the codes checked a week ago, so they're full of shit. Someone clearly doesn't know what they're talking about. I wouldn't recommend this Carmax based on my experience. The transmission started acting up almost immediately, and when I brought it in, they told me they couldn't "duplicate the issue" or diagnose the problem. Meanwhile, I was stuck driving a vehicle that felt unsafe and unpredictable. Because of their strict 10-day return policy, I was not allowed to return the car--even though the issue couldn't be diagnosed until after the return window had closed. I provided multiple videos clearly showing the issue, but they still refused to take accountability or offer a solution. I've now been driving this car for over a year and 21,000 miles with the same transmission problems, and only now is it finally getting looked at. And here's the kicker: the only thing CarMax is willing to cover is the deductible. The MaxCare rental policy only covers 7 days, yet it takes 5-7 days just to get the aftermarket transmission shipped, let alone installed. So now I'm stuck without a car for at least a week, and nobody at CarMax or MaxCare is willing to help. This has been a complete scam from beginning to end. They sold me a defective car, refused to honor the warranty properly, and left me stranded. CarMax is not just untrustworthy--they're dishonest and fraudulent. You get tons of spam, fake buyers, etc. So taking a little less might be tempting. I currently have a used vehicle listed for sale in various places and thought I might take a quote from a couple places that offer this kind of service. First off, Kelly Blue Book is and always has been the most authoritative resource for determining the value of your vehicle. Enter your VIN there and an honest rating of your car's features and condition and you should get within a few hundred dollars of a price for private sale, trade-in and even a cash offer estimate. The vehicle in question has a private sale value of $18,100 and an instant offer yielded an offer of $15,100. Sure enough, I had the car evaluated at a local dealership and they made an offer of $15,000 - exactly what Kelly Blue Book predicted. I took the car to Carmax just to get an idea of where they might come in. With a straight their very young representative face they offered $9000! Worse, they call it an "appraisal." That's not an appraisal - an appraisal by definition is an HONEST evaluation of an item's value. What it was is a completely dishonest offer in an attempt to take advantage of me. If they got the car at that price, they would list it on their lot at $18000, the full private sale amount (maybe a bit more because they also are a dealer). People, don't fall for this predatory business. Do your research. Know what your vehicle is worth before you you take any "instant offers." My strong advice is to AVOID these thieves at Carmax entirely. It's hard to say if this is something being done at other locations, but I've got a plan to find out through a friend who is an investigatory journalist. We came in looking for Audis and had an eye on an Audi, a bmw, and a Porsche to test drive after walking the lot. Salesperson seemed to judge us, perhaps we didn't look like we could afford it, and made multiple odd and rude comments so we left. We went to test drive at BMW, Audi and Porsche dealerships and the same day bought a 2025 Audi from Audi Sahara. Way better people and experience at every other dealership we visited. So far CarMax has done me so well. Bought my new baby at the end of February and so far I had one bleep and they took care of it for me immediately. They shipped it over from the Sahara location. My trade in was seamless - did it online filled it out over honestly and I was still shocked to see they gave me what they quoted. Which clearly went towards the new car. Didn't feel pressured to see the car I shipped over or any car for that matter but the year and the miles I couldn't find a better deal. Paid it off at the time of purchase so I can't talk about their financing process. 2018 with 11 thousand miles and around $15k. Were about to have a second little issue so I'll see how well they take care of it for me. read more

Worst place ever. First they lied saying I could refinance in less than 1 year... lies. Second once I payed all they never send me my title. I spent months calling, they told me they would send it to me. Until 10 months later... they told me they DID sent me, if I didn't get it I should go to DMV. I sold a car here. Took less than an hour. Good, fair price. Got more for the car here than the online quote from Carvana. And I tried selling the car to the dealership I bought it from but gave up on that because they kept pushing a trade in and it was just super annoying. BUT CarMax didn't push a trade in and it was a good experience. I think I am going to buy my next car at CarMax just because of the no haggle policy. It really makes car buying/selling/trading such a better experience (and faster! Who has time to sit around a dealership all day?). The employees were are super friendly and efficient too. I chatted with one of the guys and he said he worked there for about two years and that the company really treated their employees well (and moral was high)! I would list zero stars but I have to put something. We paid to have a LUXURY vehicle shipped here to purchase. They allowed us to have it shipped then Jeff the sales manager called and and told us that they suddenly figured out the car had an "on-off" title so we couldn't have it to register it in NV. A little googling doesn't bring up any definition for "on-off" title. Apparently a national company that's sells used cars, didn't get the correct signatures on the title. I had the BMW dealership run the cars info and we were informed that it was a surrendered lease (1 leasee). They then informed us they are shipping the car back to California to be sold there. Because the problem with the title in NV doesn't exist in California. SO YOU MEAN TO TELL ME... That BMW (who has been the only owner of the car) gave you the title incorrectly, and CARMAX(the current title holder) didn't notice this problem until a week into shipping and getting the car to its delivery point? And that whatever this un-googlable title issue is is a total non-issue in California? Shenanigans. We will not be doing business with carmax. It would be one thing if it were a real issue and we had been given a heads-up or a courtesy call. But we had received "your car has arrived" notifications and then suddenly the car has to go back to Cali to be sold because of a made up title issue. I bought a car from them June last year 2025 since I had the car it has been in the shop every month since I bought it. They didn't fix the car it was sitting outside in their parking lot for awhile. The shop calls me that is ready I pick it up and no more than a day later it over heats again. I call and they couldn't see my car for at least a month. I ended up going to the CarMax on Sahara and they attempted to repair the car so many times so many times that I couldn't use my 90 day warranty anymore. I added the extended warranty when I bought the car and I'm glad I did. The car would go in and out of the repair shop until they finally told me they couldn't find why it would over heat and to take it to the actual dealership shop. So I did and they actually helped me out and got my car fixed. I ended up needing a head gasket job. That's not a cheap repair. They sold me a crappy car and I'm glad I got that extended warranty because if I didn't it would have all came out of pocket. I would never buy a car here again they sell trash cars I'd never recommend anyone to buy a car here and if you do definitely get the extended warranty because it'll come back and bite you. read more

I recommend scheduling an appointment beforehand, just to make it easier for yourself and sales rep. if interested in purchasing ect. Ask for Mohammed. He was straight forward and honest. Amelia, Dylan, and Zee were all super attentive to detail trying to make sure they could do what they could as regards to figuring out the issue with my car. So the story here only gets better. After two weeks of this place telling me they couldn't find the car, that the car was sold 20 minutes after I have canceled an appointment and while it was on hold for me, and not being able to transfer the vehicle to the Sahara location after I was on the phone for hours of time, I magically receive an email that my car has been transferred! What is this? This story is great so just sit back and listen. I am glad that the car has reappeared but I'm not really expecting anything from the CarMax at Sahara or the CarMax at Centennial Hills. I get to the Sahara location early and the girl that had previously tried to find the car that ended up in Sacramento remembers me. I start telling her about the fiasco at Centennial Hills. After I sit down with one of the CarMax reps at the Sahara location, they let me test drive the vehicle. I immediately noticed that the triangle with the exclamation mark hazard light is on!! These mofos obviously knew there was something wrong with this BMW and to purposely screw me, they thought I was an idiot and I would buy it once they transferred it to sahara. Not only that. I have bought five cars from Carmax over the years and I have always been satisfied! We personally work with James Thomas in the sales center and he is always so patient when we are buying or looking! He definitely goes above and beyond to help us every time! In the instance we do need service the service center is always great! If our car stays overnight we get a call everyday regarding the status. The service manager who sounds like she smokes 10 packs of cigarettes a day is the absolute WORSE human to deal with. She didn't want to help get any of my repairs fixed so I had to go to the Henderson location. Once my "warranty" was over nobody wanted to help me even though this Mustang needed a new engine with only 30,000 miles. I believe the front end should always mirror the back end. So I'll be at my best to do a long story short. Front End I was amazed when I bought my vehicle. And I'm very happy with my vehicle. They are absolutely five star on that topic. Back End Few weeks ago I was at 59,000 miles. My warranty ends at 60,000 miles. I was trying for days almost to few weeks just to try to get a hold of the service department and no one picks up over there. Today I hit 60,000 miles. All I needed was an oil change. I call meineke and they picked up their phone in five rings. And while I was getting checked in by meineke's. The person checking me in was picking up all the phone calls in the same time which CarMax couldn't do. It was brought to my attention that I needed a battery change and brake change that would have been all covered by CarMax warranty under 60,000 miles. I'm really disappointed that I didn't get my car taken care of by CarMax but that doesn't mean I hate them. I still like CarMax we've been with them for 4 years. I wish them nothing but success and hope they get better on this issue. And like I mentioned if you're going to be looking super good in a front end you need to look good in the back end. read more
