Sadly there is no free Wi-Fi at the moment and the staff could be friendlier but they're just small points for me. More important and the reason why it doesn't have 5 stars, is because they only open one evening a week. A city centre library should be open a few more evenings so those of us who work can use it more often. I'm sure there must be a way of closing off the art gallery so this can happen. Anyhoo, it is worth a visit as the sections also include graphic novels, modern classics, lgbt literature and everything in between. They can also order in books from other libraries.

It's quite busy during the day and has a good buzz about it, more like a cafe with books than a library with a cafe. Depending on what you're after, this will either be good or bad. A handy wee place I can see me going to alot over the summer.

The Central Library is a great haven of peace and general silencio on George IV Bridge, if you're in that mood where loud noises and crowds and traffic are annoying you. It's a pretty big place, with several floors of...well...books, tables for reading and studying, and some computers as well. As long as you have a library card, you can get free internet access here for an hour or so. There's also Wi-Fi now, which has been brilliant for me, because I am the most susceptible person to distraction ever, so working at home can sometimes be almost impossible, and I struggle with cafes at the best of times too. There's just too many people to watch and outfits to analyse. Working at the library is always a good concentration call, and they have plenty of space for people to beaver away at their homework/articles/crossword etc. There's an awesome feeling of history to the building too, so while you're working away you can imagine yourself one day, after that long awaited intellectual breakthrough, being written about or being a writer and then placed in book form on one of the shelves. Everyone has a book in them and all that banter.

The Glasgow Women's Library has moved around a lot in the last 25 years since it was first set up…read more It now has it's permanent premises in Bridgeton near the Eastern end of Glasgow Green. The building is lovely and perfect for housing a small library. It's a grass roots charitable organisation and the only one of it's kind in Scotland. As a lending library its focus is on women writers, feminism, the suffragette movement, LGBTQIA+ stories, and so on. However, it also has a carefully curated collection of artefacts and archive materials. It runs literacy programmes and works to improve adult education - empowering women is one of the key aims of the library and that empowerment is achieved through learning. They run a range of events all year round, from readings to walking tours. Most of this is done by volunteers although they do have a small number of permanent staff. Their opening hours are now a little longer than they used to be which makes it easier to visit (they open on Saturdays now and they open late on Thursdays). I've signed up for a library card, so I hope I'll get back soon.

Apart from their selection of books,CDs & DVDs being better than before they're doing more such as an afternoon craft programme for young children & a teenage chill time. There are a bank of PCs which are free and I believe MacMillan also come in. The only downside is no comfortable seating to make me want to come and stay a while. Maybe there's a reason for that but with only hard chairs & small study desks I didn't spend as long there as I would have liked.

Abronhill library is a local library and is great. It is located in Pine Road not far from the…read moreshopping centre. It is only a small place but keeps a good supply of books and is popular with local residents. Apart from books they offer computer acces as well as music and audio books. This library participates in the bookstart scheme which encorages a love of reading in youngsters. Myself and my two young daughters attend a group once a fortnight for about an hour where we sing songs and hear a story (changed days from when I was young and you had to whisper). It is great fun and my 2 girls love it. They also have their own library cards and are rewarded for taking books out. They get stickers and once a certian amout is reached a certificate is awarded and subsequently when they have enough certificates they get to choose a book. I have always loved books and I belive this is a great idea. Ilove having a library localy as otherwise I would have to drag two young children on a bus to the main one in Cumbernauld. Not a thought I relish.

Giffnock library is a fantastic little local library, it isn't huge but it still has a good…read moreselection of books, computers, scanners and various other library resources. My local library is Clarkston library but often if they don't have something then Giffnock will have so I take a little trip down to collect my book. It's really handy as Clarkston library is right next to Clarkston train station, so I can hop onto the train and get off at the next stop three minutes along the road which is Giffnock. Even more handy is the fact that Giffnock library is right next to the station too, so minimal walking effort required, fabulous! I don't use this library so much now but I used to all the time when I was younger as I was a total book worm. I still am a book worm but tend to use Amazon most of the time when I need a book. The staff are always super helpful and can give you great recommendations if like me, you struggle to pick a good book and after reading a couple of pages give up as you're bored stiff.

They kindly directed me to their toilets to use. I never seen much of the library as I was there for one thing. But it looked a very clean looking place inside of what I seen. Being the main library in Falkirk this is very well stocked with a great selection of fiction and…read morenon fiction books. There is a separete chidlrens department with books at their level and smaller chairs for them to sit on. There is free internet access and a good refernce section as well. There is plenty of helpfull staff who will show you around and help you find what you are lookin for. They will order in books that are not stocked in the library if there is enough demand for the book. Parking can be a bit of a problem but there is a local supermarket quite near by and it is only a short walk from the town center. There is also a lift available.
