I approached my dentist to discuss my options to help my TMJ. My bottom teeth grew in a bit crooked, and he seemed to think that straightening them would provide me some relief, and so recommended that I make an appointment with Carlson. Over the phone, they were very understanding when I expressed my concerns about the rate of success, and the cost, as I have no dental insurance. The initial exam was at no cost, and we could discuss some of those issues at that time. Upon my arrival, the office was clean, with updated technology, organized with a well thought out layout. A very professional atmosphere. Most importantly, I was asked about my primary objective: if I wanted to get my teeth fixed and then work on the TMJ, or if I was there primarily for the TMJ. I told them that if there was another way to help this issue, I would take that. I am not unhappy with my smile, I just don't want the TMJ to get so bad I have arthritis at an early age. They were also understanding when told them I wanted to get a second opinion before making any decisions. Doctor Carlson was upfront with me in saying the orthodontal work does not always solve TMJ issues and can sometimes cause them. I appreciate his honesty and forthrightness. In any medical professional, I am looking for someone who is knowledgeable, but recognizes that they do not always have the perfect solution, especially when they are in a specialized field. Carlson's knowledge and honesty are huge assets in my book. After examining my teeth, Doctor Carlson was not sufficiently satisfied that orthodontal work would have the success rate I needed. Knowing and accepting that fixing this was my primary objective, he recommended that I explore physical therapy, and referred me to a specialist in the area. Instead of telling me that of course orthodontal work would fix this particular problem of mine, Doctor Carlson and the members of his office acknowledged my concerns and their limitations in their ability to help me, and provided me with an alternative that would most likely have a higher success rate. I am incredibly impressed with the office and its realistic view, their willingness to listen to patients and their genuine concern for our issues. Should I choose to get my teeth fixed in the future, I will not even consider any other orthodontist. Until then, they have my rave review and utmost gratitude for not pushing me into something that may not have helped. I did not keep my appointment for a second opinion. read more

I was very impressed with Carlson Orthodontics. From the moment we walked in the door, to leaving the office! I've been in Customer Service for over 10 years now, and it takes a lot to impress me, and I couldn't believe how great the office was. All the staff, the cleanliness and the doctors~! Best orthodontics office in the twin ports area. Dr. Carlson is great guy who sometimes thinks more like an engineer that means he works efficiently and cost effectively with great results. This makes everyone more happy. I had some pretty severe jaw alignment and orthodontic issues when I came in it took a few years but they fixed up everything for me. read more
