This is especially disappointing. Reliable communication is essential in healthcare. Patients should not have to struggle to reach their provider's office. When you rely on a physician for ongoing care, especially for chronic conditions, this level of unresponsiveness is unacceptable.

They advised me to see a neurologist, nephrologist, and a vestibular therapist ( I had BPPV). and an ENT. I met with an ENT. Then worked with the vestibular therapist, then finally called Dr Reading in July. Even though I was an existing patient, the earliest appointment I could get with her was October 22! My appointment today was an exact script of information that she gave me last January before my fall and concussion. She did not listen to what I was saying about my symptoms being much worse and continuing to decline. She talked so fast that both my husband and I could not process what she was saying. She treated me like I was wasting her time. The memory test she gave me was an abbreviated version of the same test she gave me last January...with the exact same questions. I took a summarization report from my Physical Therapists(3x a week from June through October) that she barely glanced at. In short, if you are looking for answers and someone who seems to care...don't waste your time waiting to see Dr Reading. I'm searching for a second opinion from a different neuroligist ( not that I feel like she gave me an informed opinion of my personal problems.)

Today as I walked in again to check in, I was approached with the same paperwork to fill out again that was unused the last time. I tried making an office clerk aware that I had already filled that out the paperwork the first time I had been there less than a month ago. She wanted me to redo the paperwork. I told her I wasn't having it and that my paperwork should be somewhere in my file. After several attempts of trying to get a few words in to this lady, I finally just buttoned up Fired Dr Cook then gave the lady a little piece of my mind. Surprisingly, there were approximately four or five other ladies at this massive counter and not one tried to take over, or try to interrupt the lady to explain to her that she was being rude and unprofessional by assuming and interrupting. It's beyond my understanding how anyone that works in a medical staff will assume anything. As I was leaving, I asked Dianne if you could have Dr Cook call me so that I could explain why he was no longer going to be my neurosurgeon, they told me that he was running about 45 minutes to an hour late again today. No one called me however in a Baroness Dianne did tell me I should call and see if he's behind schedule today. At that point, I knew that this relationship wasn't gonna last and he wasn't gonna have a job with me. I'm trying to understand, and I know that I am a bit frustrated right now, but would it be so wrong for me to think that it's the doctors staffs responsibility to place a call and say hey we're running late today. We know that you are busy as well, so we wanted to see if you could come by a little later, as opposed to being here in an office, sitting down, staring at other people that are doing the same thing. From what I understand my procedure has been estimated in about half $1 million. This is the worst medical staff in Austin, Texas and by the looks of things Dr Cook doesn't seem to give a rats ass about any of his patients, New, and I would imagine existing as well. I accompanied my companion to her appointments with Dr. Adam Horvit, in order to communicate her concerns to the physician, remember the physician's advice, help make decisions, and communicate my own concerns to the physician. Dr. Adam Horvit was visibly disturbed and threatened by my presence and participation. He was openly derisive of my lack of medical training, and brutally mocked me into silence when I questioned his opinion ("Is your name Dr. Google? DOCTOR Google, is it? I just want to be sure, now... is it DOCTOR Google?) When I persisted in questioning the basis of his opinion, by quoting the contradictory opinion of the MDA/ALS clinic's own speech pathologist, Dr. Horvit mocked her too, saying, "She doesn't know anything". In my personal opinion, Dr. Adam Horvit impressed me as an easily threatened bully, who is obviously a brilliant doctor, but one also "sucks right out loud" as a person. I was referred to a neurologist recently for an EMG test, and, of course, I requested to see Dr. Horvit again. I was very impressed with his positive and caring attitude towards me during my recent visit. The EMG is probably not the most pleasant task to perform, as it is a test where you subject the patient's muscles/nerves to electrical activity. However, a good conversation between tester and patient can go a long way in creating a distraction from the medical procedure. Dr. Horvit's professionalism and personality helped me feel comfortable and almost distracted from the testing at times. In today's health-care environment, it can be difficult to find medical professionals who truly care about their patients. Before the EMG test, Dr. Horvit listened to my symptoms, which gave me peace of mind and reassured me that he would consider my symptoms during the testing. Even though he had information from the doctor who referred me to him, Dr. Horvit listened nonetheless. I believe listening and understanding the problem at hand are important skills necessary for treatment of any medical issue, as is treating patients with respect and kindness. On all of these skills, Dr. Horvit has exceeded my expectations.
