Amenities include wifi, a gym, cocktail pool, beachside restaurant/bar, beachside service (drinks, apps, bottle service, etc). They also can arrange excursions and spa services. We stayed there for three nights and took advantage of the complimentary breakfasts and beach amenities. Next time I return to Holbox, I'd stay at Mystique again.

And it's also close to Playa punta cocos which is a great place to see bioluminescence for free at night and have some cheap coconuts and enjoy the hammocks and water The rooms are perfect and the hotel is quite small, but in a good way. They have free bikes for you to ride around the island. There are only a couple spots on the island that may take a while to get to by biking, otherwise, it's fun to ride around. I also recommend getting a golf cart on the island for a day as it is worth it to zoom around town and see the whole place There aren't a ton of restaurants right near the hotel, but again, it's very easy to walk to most of them and it takes about a 10 min walk. The food on this island is absolutely amazing, it's making my mouth water just thinking about it. Highly recommend going to this island and also staying at this hotel

The selection of juices changes each morning as does the breakfast. It included enchiladas, huevos divorciados, pork sopes, and came with fresh fruit. The restaurant is in an outdoor covered patio next to the pool and the same selections are also offered at the beach club which is a 3 minute walk from the hotel. The cerviche and shrimp tacos were excellent. They also have huge pizzas if you have kids whose appetites are expensive. The restaurant is open until 10 pm and the beach club is open until sunset but they were super flexible on this. The beach club the hotel offers is the best in town. It offers full shade options and full sun options and hammocks and a full cocktail bar. For me, it was the location and music that made it stand out. It is on a calmer side of the island where you are closer to Punta Mosquito but not quite adjacent. (I swam there most days from the hotel and was a 20 minute swim). Also, the music at the beach club was spot on for the vibe. They play mixes of Calle 18, Bomba Estereo, Natalia Lafourcade, Manu Chao, etc. Other hotels play house music which is great for evening but could be a bit much blaring at 9 am. The owner and his family are very kind and involved with each guest. They have a cute dog named Colonel Mustard. What's not to love about that? The staff is also very kind. A lot of the hospitality workers on the island were Argentinian which I wasn't expecting but this is true throughout the Yucatán. Definitely recommend this hotel for persons who want a cozy, tranquil environment with excellent food.

What an Incredible Escape! Not easy to get to, but TOTALLY worth it. This place is located on…read moreIsla Holbox in the Yucatan. First, getting to Isla Holbox. You have to fly into Cancun. Then there's a great Holbox transfer service (I'll review later) that will drive you the 1 1/2 drive to Chiquila, then you take a 30 minute ferry to the island. Then take a golf cart taxi to the hotel (there aren't hardly any cars on the island; everyone gets around on golf carts). Its a Tropical Paradise Hotel. Our room was located on the upper two floors of the building (only 2 rooms in our building). Our patios had lounge chairs, chairs, hammocks. Top floor had a hot tub with views. Mini fridge with waters in room. Indoor & Outdoor showers. There are no traditional shower heads; everything looked like branches or pails. I loved the Mexican Island decor. There's no television or phones (and you can forget your cell phone working; however, they do have free wi-fi). If it gets too hot for you, there IS air conditioning (had to blast that a couple of times). Incredible views of the ocean. Hotel pool is fantastic. Included in your cost is breakfast (very good) and hotel toys (bikes, kayaks, etc). There's a hotel restaurant inside lobby and a bar/restaurant, right next to the ocean. You will also have to deal with many resident creatures (iguanas, raccoon thieves, pelicans, stray dogs, etc). There's a sandbar a hundred feet out in the ocean that you can walk for a couple of miles and see all the flamingos. You can grab a bike to ride into town. Its an amazing place. PLUS, Excellent service. Everyone was friendly & helpful. I'm sad to be reviewing because that means I'm home.

I swallowed hard to see the NYT article yesterday that Holbox is now one of the "Places to Go" in…read more2016. Its a tiny island, a special place with a delicate ecosystem, and unspoiled. You can see pink flamingos, whale sharks, brown pelicans and frigate birds and it's not overrun by tourists. I'd hate to see that change, but thanks to the NYT, it probably will. CasaSandra is a special place put together with a gypsy sensibility, full of little artful details that make a stay unique. Its a rustic place, not an all inclusive resort, so prepare for that, but staying here is a special experience. We would love to return. We arrived at night, and as we drove up in our golf cart taxi (the only transport allowed on the island) this small hotel was lit up with gorgeous string lights, live music and a Cuban dinner (the owner Sandra hails from Cuba.) At night, this place glows. The island is reachable only by local ferry, and will require some planes, trains and automobiles to get here, but the hotel will arrange transport, for a price, if you want that. The rooms are simple, have no televisions and the wifi is a joke existing (barely) only in the beautiful main lobby. Prepare to unplug, or to be frustrated trying to connect. The rooms at CasaSandra are rustic and artful and feature local textiles, colorful tiled sinks, mosquito netting over the bed, thoughtful local snacks, and a personal, in-room Nespresso machine. The lobby and restaurant area, and the outdoor pool and especially the beach with palm frond topped cabanas are beautiful. There is a good masseuse on staff, to kick off your relax-ment! We had an excellent service experience in the restaurant and hotel and would come back and stay again. Its a small lovely spot and people knew our names and family after several days. The only hiccups were with communication at the start of the visit, and a forgotten booking for a fishing trip, that was remedied the following day. Also, the small hotel next door is in the middle of construction, which normally you'd like to be told of ahead of time. The meals were enjoyable and beautifully presented, but could be pricey compared with other food on Holbox. We have been to the Yucatan five times and CasaSandra is a special place in the world. Simple, artful, and thoughtful.

So....on out last night we dropped in for dinner and drinks to cap off a perfect vacation. As always one to avoid crowds we walked in without reservations and were surprised to see just one table inside taken. There's an option of indoor or out and since I had enough bug bites for one week and tired of having to spray my self down every hour we chose to sit inside. Don't let this change your mind to sit outside, the hotel is right on the water and I'm guessing the sunset over dinner can be very romantic. After a short wait our drinks arrived and my girl and I settled on the specials. For her the sword fish and for yours truly the Filet Mignon. The ambience of the restaurant was definitely calm and relaxed, especially since your sitting to the right of the main entrance of the hotel. I think we might have seen 4-5 people walk in and out the entire time we were there. Also I think the hotel guests can see we were having a date night. After a few sips of a Mezcal Tonic and my yummy beer our food arrived. Her sword fish was absolutely amazing with this very flavorful sauce drizzled on and around with small mounds of onions as a compliment. My steak was cooked perfectly. So well that I was reluctant to share.....but of course when your in love...Tiny potatoes and sliced onions were really a nice touch to accompany my Filet Mignon. So all told with a tip (20%) $98. We were warned before we went that this was on the higher side of dining when it comes to price, but we still wanted to try it. Thank you to the cooks and our waiter for an excellent meal on our last night on the island. We look forward to seeing you all hopefully very soon!
