Have never had an issue with scheduling with this office. Ive had two laparoscopic surgeries performed by Dr Salk and he was great both times. The drs tend to always have students shadowing them here. read more

The front desk is consistently difficult to deal with. It doesn't matter whether it's on the phone or in office, they will ruin your day.

Previously I was a patient of Dr. Tanaka. However, after a few visits, she decides to up and move without warning her patients, while sticking me with an older, male doctor, which had no bedside manner at all. The office is always closing early, or not open at all, the office staff is miserble and has no personality. Im good! read more

The only reason I'm even giving this place the compliment of 2 stars is because of Dr. Colavita. He's very kind and attentive. Only male doctor I've ever felt comfortable with. My biggest complaint and the reason that I recently transferred out of the office at 33 weeks pregnant is because of the medical staff underneath the doctors. Most of those women at the front desk and beyond were completely unprofessional at each visit. Even when I would call for important test results regarding my pregnancy were they very dismissive and always implied passive aggressively that my calls weren't important. The office manager is also not very helpful. What a shame. Also, an acquaintance of mine stated that they mixed up her important test results and responded like it was a normal thing. Just was not a fan of the unprofessionalism and how little they seem to care about expectant mothers and their unborn babies. If you don't enjoy your profession, please find a new one. Wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Nurse was sweet, the Dr is an Army vet, so there was some common military ground between us that may have helped. He explained everything really well (there was a student shadowing him, so probably went more into detail for her), and gave me a number to call regarding my situation. My 5 stars is for Dr. Powers ! When I first went here an older male dr . was very rude and dismissive of my questions, and my concerns. I had a period for 8 months. He said it was because I was over weight, blamed my miscarriage from years before on my weight. He performed my pap ,was very rough , and missed a lump that was on my cervix . I knew that wasn't right so I went back and asked for a women dr. I was given Dr. Powers , she has been a great dr. Found the lump on first visit! She removed it a few weeks later. Dr. Colavita is the best Dr. I've ever head. He has the best bedside manner and has always made me feel so comfortable. He talks to you like a human being not just a patient. I have been going to him since I was a teen and now 2 children later delivered by him . He also delivered my sister and has since delivered all my nieces and nephews! I will be so sad when he decides to retire! Also i have never in all the years I have been there (about 10 years) the staff has always been super nice. He has the best stories, he's so patient and through and explains everything in a way that it is clear. Dr sulk just completed my hysterectomy for me and he was amazing! The staff here is horrendous. Caring for Women is the most ironic business name for this place. The staff is rude, the doctors, while smart, have absolutely no bedside manners. I had an operation done by a doctor here and he is very skilled (the only reason they get a second star is because the surgery went well), but honestly I'd rather shoot my self in the foot than see him again. I had to go in to sign one *single* piece of paper and they forced me to book an appointment and I was charged for a half hour visit, when I saw the doctor for literally - MAYBE - two minutes. Their reason for the appointment? "He needs to explain the procedure to you!" My actual appointment? "So the procedure is booked. Sign here. Call if you have questions." That was it. They're all about profit and don't care about you or your time. The surgical coordinator told me she couldn't book my surgery until she had "returned from vacation." The doctor did the procedure well, but his staff didn't follow up with me at all and I had to call multiple times asking for results to be given the most vague results I've ever heard of. I was also told that since the doctor was on vacation they couldn't give me my results until he returned. Maybe just give up and retire if you intend to be on vacation 75% of the year? read more

I'm not sure why all the negative reviews on this office, I became a patient a month and a half ago and have been seen 4 times and never had any sort of issue whatsoever. The girls up front are super friendly. When you call they are always nice as well. Never had any issues with rescheduling of appointments or anything. Dr. Powers is such an amazing doctor. I have been to many doctors and lived all over the country. Most places make you wait forever, brush off your concerns, don't really listen to you. You feel like just another patient they don't give a darn about. In meeting her briefly I immediately felt comfortable with her. I found out I had to have surgery and she came highly recommended. She's very friendly, informed, and calming. She handled everything with the utmost care. I didn't think I would feel safe having surgery with a new doctor but she really went above and beyond to make me feel cared for. She's really amazing and you'd be lucky to have her as your doctor! read more

Something has happened in the past couple of years here. What used to be a well-managed office has deteriorated into something of a mess. I am not called for regular checkups, I have to call them. No reminder phone calls any more either. And if you contact them, 9 times out of 10, you have to leave a message that does not get returned. Additionally, it is insanely difficult to get an appointment with Dr. Powers. From what I understand she is very, very busy with deliveries. OK, fine. But for those of us who are not having children and just want good female care, this presents a problem. I don't like to downgrade businesses, but unless you're pregnant I can't recommend this practice any longer. I'll stay with Dr. Powers, I do like her that much, with the full realization it's not the great experience it used to be. read more

I am a soon to be first time mom and was excited for my first appointment, however, I tested positive for Covid 10 days prior and out of an abundance of caution, changed my appointment to a telehealth. I was told 10:45 but I am understanding it may not be at the exact time. By 11:30, when I hadn't heard from the office, I called. I was told she was running behind but finishing up this patient and I should hear from her soon. By 2pm, I still hadn't heard from the office so I called again. I was told the dr. had been seeing patients and then had to go deliver. That's fine- but shouldn't the office call me to let me know then having to chase them down!? The woman also said that sometimes they call before or after the scheduled time. Again that's fine- but to sit and wait around for 3 hours is just rude. At 3pm, I received a phone call saying that no one ever checked me in and she skipped over me but would call me by the end of the day. I told them during this time I had called my PCP and already scheduled a new doctor and a new appointment. It's Covid and the frontlines are working so hard but a simple phone call from the office to let me know she was behind or going in to deliver rather than me chase her down would have been appreciated. read more

I recently had a baby and saw Dr Powers of Caring for Women as my OBGYN. First off the office is great, they always seem to run on time. I think the longest I have waited to see the Dr was 15 minutes, this is unheard of in most medical offices! They also are very prompt with test results and answering questions through the triage line. Also, if you are delivering at Kent Hospital, the office is literally right down the road. Dr Powers is the best doctor I have ever been to. I could not imagine having anyone else deliver my baby. I had a few scares during my pregnancy and she always explained all my options and the risks and benefits of various procedures very thoroughly. She is extremely personable and makes you feel like you are her only patient. I never felt rushed or unimportant. If you are looking for a new OB, I can not say enough good things about her! I also had the chance to meet two of the other Doctors in the practice, Dr Spurell and Dr Colavita. Both men had excellent beside manner and seemed to be very knowledgeable. read more

This Doctor refused to give my sister an ultrasound even though the emergency room doctor at Kent Hospital requested they listen to the heartbeat. The Doctor claimed she was too early to get an ultrasound, so it was surprising to find out the same Doctor at the same clinic gave a coworker an ultrasound at seven weeks to help assure her the pregnancy was going well. So you may ask what the difference between my sister and her coworker is, well, it is the color of their skin. So I would rate this Doctor lower if I could, and please note, she told my sister that she should go somewhere else because this clinic isn't for her. read more

I adore Dr. Powers. I went to see her for many years and would still be seeing her if my insurance hadn't changed. She is hands down the very best OBGYN I have ever had in all my 40+ years. I would also recommend her for your daughters because she is gentle, caring and funny. She is everything you could want in a doctor for a young girls first time visit. The office of Caring for Women is very quick and efficient. You never wait for very long and they are so very accommodating with schedules. I have been with this practice since 1991, I love it here and wouldn't go anywhere else, I trust these Doctors implicitly and without question. All three of my children were delivered by the doctors in this practice. My primary is Dr. Salk, sadly the days I delivered were off, when ever he was on call, the baby's didn't come, as soon as he wasn't on call, I would go into labor. The running joke was, may the next one. I stopped at 3, I figured I gave him three chances. The Doctors that did deliver me, were beyond reproach, kind, caring, understanding and compassionate. All three delivery's were perfect in every way, even though not all went according to plan. read more

I am currently 36 weeks pregnant and see Dr. Bethany Wortman at Caring For Women. I have never felt so at ease with any doctor before in my life... she is amazing. No question is ignored, no issue is laughed at, no problem is overlooked. Dr. Wortman and her CNA, Erica, have made me completely comfortable at each visit. Being a first-time expecting mom, I have many concerns and both Dr. Wortman and Erica have ensured that I have all of the answers I need. At my second Glucose test, I felt a little odd and almost passed out. I was ushered into an empty exam room to lay with my feet up, with ice packs placed on my forehead and behind my neck, and was constantly checked on by either Dr. Wortman or Erica, as well as other members of the medical staff. I am extremely thankful for the attention and support given to me... a somewhat scary situation was diffused by their excellent bedside manner. The only reason of why I did not give Caring For Women five out of five stars, is their front office staff. I realize that it's a busy office, but if a patient needs to leave multiple messages for a simple appointment reschedule, or to get word to her doctor, and does not receive a call back, that can be a problem. I called two weeks in advance to see if I could reschedule an appointment and had to leave three messages (the last one clearly showing how annoyed I was) before somebody called me back. I also had a medical question early in my pregnancy that was never relayed to Dr. Wortman. Even worse, my insurance company has called the office on a few occasions and never received a response, resulting in me now having to appeal a denial of a claim... Besides the lack of office protocol, Caring For Women's doctors and medical staff are amazing!!! I cannot wait to have Dr. Wortman deliver my daughter... hopefully sooner rather than later! read more

They canceled my appointment for my annual visit very last minute. Filled the wrong birth control prescription and then would not verify my pharmacies request for the prescription I've been on for over 10 years. Finally they verified the prescription after having to call the office twice to remind them. I'm currently sitting at my rescheduled appointment while writing this review. I have been sitting in this waiting room for nearly two hours. After the first hour and a half I asked the receptionist what time my name would be called and she said "we don't have a time". Very poor communication and customer service. A simple explanation or an apology would have been appreciated. Sadly they do lack professionalism in that regard. No names mentioned. My wife's first OB left when She was 6 months and they switched her OB to the remaining Female OB and is now almost 8 months and that OB is leaving also. I'm not blaming the OBs by any means just saying the practice or whoever the practice owner is, is not doing a good job by any means of retaining his employees. Now we are in a panic trying to find someone that can see us and will fit our schedules, will not be going back to this practice because they are unreliable and do not tell you about big changes like this ahead of time not only once but twice. I have had nothing but positive experiences with him he was very nice and knowledgeable he made me extremely comfortable he has taking time out of his day to call me several times about my upcoming hysterectomy , he even helped me set up the surgery. we will be having a second consultation before the surgery and the office has been really nice and helpful maybe I'm just lucky I don't know but I'm really happy with him and the office. I used to go here, but I'm probably not going to anymore. The doctors only care about you if you are going to have a baby. If you are just a regular woman who wants to stay healthy, don't bother. They cancel my appointments without giving any reason, and then give me ones that are three weeks later. Just today, I got a call (right before they closed, so I couldn't call back), telling me my new appointment was canceled, once again with no reason. Last year, I almost missed my appointent because they never called to remind me. It was my first appointment there in four years because I had no health insurance, and I got a lecture for not going for four years when I couldn't afford it. It's great if you're having a baby, but they don't care if you're just a regular woman. They should change their name to Caring for Pregnant Women, so that people like me don't get confused again. read more

My experience with DR. SALK was very unsettling. I called and spoke with the manager about my visit and how bad it was. Dr. Salk entered the room and he instantly started judging me because of my TATTOOS! as if its any of his business... he starts to basically tell me how bad I am going to look when i'm older and how he has NO tattoos on his body... GOOD FOR YOU? Mind your business... Then he asked me if I smoke or drink and when I told him that I smoke medical Marijuana, no cigarettes, he was so rude and was judging me and pressuring me to quit smoking marijuana because... "YOU KNOW THAT'S ADDICTIVE, RIGHT?" ... yeah, that's what he said to me. Not for nothing, but marijuana has gotten me away from ADDICTIVE prescriptions and helped me in more ways than one with back pain, ptsd, migraines, depression, anxiety and more WITHOUT HARMFUL SIDE EFFECTS. and then he had NO IDEA what I was in there for... I was in for a routine pap smear and annual appointment. and the first thing that comes out of his mouth was "so it doesn't look like you need a pap this time." then I told him that is wrong and he had to double check... very comforting.... He is the most unhelpful doctor I have ever been in contact with and provides very vague answers to questions. He has never made me feel comfortable or well informed. This office is the best, I am a huge fan of Dr. Spurell and wish he'd delivered both my kids because he was wonderful with my last pregnancy, this place remains dear to my heart. They have wonderful nurses and doctors and they arent afraid to take the time you need. If theres a wait because of them taking their time it isnt really long and they will do the same for you. My doctor rushed to make it to my delivery from the office not everyone would do that, they are efficient, friendly, knowledgeable. read more

The only reason I am giving a star is because Dr. Powers is wonderful....everything else about this office? Terrible. I agree with most of the comments on here. The office is SO unorganized. I had an appointment a month or so ago canceled on me on my way to the appointment....half an hour before my scheduled time. I took time off from work for it..I do not live close. When you go up to the window, you are ignored. Everyone has an attitude. If you call, no one answers. If you leave a message, no one calls back. Dr. Powers as an individual is great...shes attentive, caring...but getting an appointment with her is nearly impossible. I have had so many appointments canceled. I had an issue with my birth control making me feel sick...I was told that I need to "stick it out" until my appointment in March. It's a shame...when I first started coming here everything was great. The only reason I have continued coming back was for Powers...but since it has become nearly impossible to get in there, I am afraid I am going to have to find another doctor. I would not recommend giving them your business due to the extreme un-organization of this place. read more

Dr.saulk was one of the worse doctors I've ever had. Didn't make me feel comfortable and blamed my period not coming every month on my weight. He didn't give me any say on what birth control I was being put on and didn't even suggest me to get blood just Incase something else was wrong. He didn't do my vaginal exam very nicely I jumped once because he hurt me all he said was sorry under his breath and continued. Do not recommend him at all. read more

I don't even know where to begin with this place. Disorganized and unprofessional is an understatement. I had to make an appointment with my doctor (Dr. Mmbaga) after I was informed by my PHARMACY (not my doctors office) that I was due for an appointment so that I could get my bc prescription refilled. I called the Coventry office about 3 times during the week (with no answer just constant ringing) only then to find out that apparently no one was in that office. So I called the Tollgate office to set up my appointment. I was informed that Dr. Mmbaga was leaving the practice (I was not warned of this at all prior) so I had to schedule with another doctor. The receptionist (who mumbled so badly I could barely understand her) asked me if I would be comfortable seeing a male doctor. I said "no" and set up a later appointment with a female doctor whose name I didn't even catch because this girl was mumbling so badly and was clearly trying to rush me off the phone. I just got back from my appointment today. Not only was I seen by a male doctor, which I explicitly said I wasn't comfortable with, but along with him I was seen by his male medical student. My entire experience here has been extremely uncomfortable and frustrating. I'm done with this lack of professionalism and I'm looking for a new office as of today. Do not recommend this office under any circumstances. read more

I came in for a routine check up and to discuss my low libido and the random male doctor, with whom was not mine, and I had never met before looked me in the eyes after I had told him about how this affecting my life and said. "Maybe this is just you, there is nothing we can about it and you're going to have to live with it." I left and called Dr.Nisbet and his daughter had bloodwork done, reccomended a variety of options, listened. Even said that this was completely unprofessional. I'm still mind blown a doctor can tell someone that a hormonal imbalance is a "You" problem. Complete ignorance. Lack of compassion or even wanting to be there from the staff. I would highly recommend Dr. Colavita to anyone and everyone. A true professional, he was quite knowledgeable, kind, caring and had a calming way about him. I never once waited for an appointment, i never saw another doctor and his medical assistant Maddison was wonderful. *Dr. Colavita Okay ladies! It's that time of year! Hop up on the table, one foot in each stirrup, grab that paper coverall, and get ready for the most exciting 15 minutes out of your year! It's PAP Smear time!!! .... Said no one, ever. Until now, that is!!! Luckily, for those of us who live in RI, we have one of the best doctors in the state, at one of the best obstetrics and gynecology groups in the state, which is Dr. Colavita at Caring for Women. Flashback to my first visit: I sat there Among the posters on the wall encouraging breast feeding and those warning against STDS, with the tray beside the exam table with all kinds of swabs and instruments that raise an eyebrow and make you wonder...'is THAT going in THERE? (Ya, you know where) and the fact that I was thinking of 100 places I'd rather be. Just as I sat there planning my escape through the window, there was that heavy, dreaded knock on the door. Showtime!!! In came one of the happiest doctors I have ever seen. (Probably just delivered a baby, hence the big smile) "Hi, I'm Doctor Colavita" he proceeded in one of the most genuine, it's really nice to meet you, sort of way. There's just something about the first few minutes you meet someone...You can probably tell how your meeting will go. Right then I knew due to his friendly and casual demeanor along with warm personality, that at very least he will be easy to talk to. As the appointment continued (I PROMISE, I WILL spare you ALL of the details), I became more and more comfortable speaking with him. One of the other first things I liked is how I didn't feel rushed. Even with patients in the waiting area, he was very cool and collected and encouraged questions. When I checked out and scheduled my next years visit, I was sure to schedule it with him. Flash Forward: Well, as women we sometimes hope to see our gynecologist once a year, but things happen. As for me, before my next 'annual' with Dr. Colavita, he went from being my gynecologist to being my obstetrician. I was expecting!! If anyone wants to put the faith of their doctor to the test, I'd say pregnancy and childbirth is a good time to do it! Each visit & each time that Dr. Colavita walked through that door I was given a sense of relief that I, but more importantly, my baby, we're in the best of hands. Now here's what's important to me, Bedside Manner. I'm sure there were days where his day didn't go so good; Maybe a loss of a patient. A baby born sleeping. Maybe a young woman's test results came back malignant. Maybe his last patient was giving him a hard time. Maybe Not having slept in 36 hours. Anything. But I would never, ever know....because each time he saw me it was all about ME. If he was having a bad day, he never let it show and he was happy to be there. Present Day: Two babies later and a lovely lady surgery that only us women are lucky to have, I still see Dr. Colavita. And though his hair is grayer (ok, not really, it's mine that's grayer) our bond between Doctor and patient is a great one. He's a wonderful doctor who listens, never judges, takes his time to explain things, encourages questions and in the end gets the job done! When I started searching for a gynecologist, This Yelp app didn't exist. And reviews weren't as easy to come across. Yes, we had Google (I'm not that old!) BUT IM SAVING YOU THE TIME. SEARCH NO LONGER. Schedule your appointment with Dr. Colavita. Or any other one of the great doctors at Caring for Women. You won't regret it. Best of luck, ladies! read more
