Located in Cote des Neiges, the Caribbean Curry House is an authentic, counter-service restaurant. Opened in 1980, they proudly serve authentic Caribbean cuisine. I went for lunch after reading about it as one of the top Cheap Eats in Montreal. Took the metro, got off at Plamondon and walk about 3 blocks to the restaurant. There is a set of steep stairs to get to the restaurants, so be aware of that. I walked in and saw the menu on display on a digital screen, so I approached the register saying that I wanted a goat dish and some rice...the guy said, you would be better off getting the plate, which comes with plantain (1), salad and a tuber side...so I said, sure. The food was very nice...the goat was tender and well seasoned.... a bit salty for my taste but definitely good tasting. Only one lone plantain on top of the cup of seasoned rice. I have been going to the Curry House for over 30 years. last week, I picked up some beef rotis for my wife and I and was very dissappointed. I don't know who prepares their meat, but it was full of chunks fat and I even had a nice piece of artery in mine. Luckly, I don't have a weak stomach. I might give them another chance, but if I end up with substandard food again, I'll be buying my rotis somewhere else and never going back. read more

I was surprised when I found out that they had opened this in the west island and I had to try it out The staff was very welcoming and nice to me, there was no one when I went so the service was pretty fast. I got myself an oxtail plate and an extra side of plantain The plate came with oxtail, rice, salad and 1 piece of plantain, it was abitt disappointing that they only give you 1 plantain so I was happy that I had ordered extra side of plantain. The oxtail on the other hand was really good. This is the perfect place to grab a fast bite, I noticed that they already had the food pre prepared and put in those hot metal dishes. Sadly over the years the roti has not only doubled in prices but it is also 30% smaller.

I was highly disappointed that I learned the original owners have sold this restaurant. I do not believe the new owners are from the Caribbean. The jerk chicken was horrible. It tastes as though they baked chicken and put jerk sauce on chicken. The rice and peas were hard. The food came out semi warm. The food tastes as though it's been sitting out and not made fresh. The only good thing about this restaurant is the doubles. I had four of them. I guess you can't mess the doubles up. read more

I ordered in the other night from Caribbean Curry House. My order was the goat and beef roti plate. It came with a small amount of rice and an even smaller corner of salad in a corner compartment of the plate. Everything tasted as it should, but the roti filling was not overly generous. The roti itself seemed to be folded so that every bite had way too many layers of mostly dry roti with just a bit of meat and filling. The hot sauce which required a small extra fee was generic and Tabasco-like (unlike the addictive chunky orange peppasauce at Tropical Paradise). Perhaps next time, I should know to order an extra portion of meat. Also, a bit more salad or rice would be nice. Finally, there were no plantains included in the plate? Maybe I got it wrong, but the description online seemed to include a few sweet plantains. That would be a nice extra touch. All in all however, the food is pretty decent. read more

Fantastic, homey place for Caribbean food. I'm reviewing for both Take Out (during Covid19) and dine in (pre-Covid). I have only good things to say about this restaurant. I first heard of them from Dining on a dime. I knew I had to go because it just looked INCREDIBLE and I can definitely say that this place is one of my favourite places to go to in Montreal. To be honest, everything I've had here was fantastic. I recommend their goat curry roti. It's stuffed! To the brim with potatoes and deliciously tender pieces of goat. It's super flavourful. I also love their oxtail curry, doubles and jerk chicken. The oxtail curry is soft and savoury (not spicy), and is so comforting. The most amazing part of all of these meals is the hot sauce. Their hot sauce is a punch on the tongue (in the best way possible!), super flavourful and spicy! Service is fantastic and takeout is super quick. Right now as I write this, on their Instagram they're inviting folks who are not doing well to come over and eat a free meal on Tuesdays and Thursdays. What an amazing place! read more

The decor isn't what you're here for. You're here for the amazing food. Coming from NYC, living in Queens, NY and in a West Indian neighborhood- and I've never had such good roti. I had the chicken, goat and beef roti and all three were amazing. Ian, the owner is so great and convinced me to get a pineapple soda instead of a basic coke and it was delicious. I am so SAD. I have been going to the Caribbean Curry House over over 10 years. I actually live 30-45 minutes away, but I always made the trip because it was the curry house. NOT ANYMORE. I ordered a couple chicken roti yesterday. The portions looked cheap, but i was okay with it because of pass experiences. As for the taste, it was horrible with zero favor. The roti was stale and tasteless. The curry chicken was lacking in so many ways, i literally had to open the roti and spice it to make it edible. Even with that, the amount of roti folded layers made the meal dry and unenjoyable. The owner and/or management will have to reach out to me and tell me things have changed before I ever go back. read more

Used to be my go to place for Jamaican food, especially Roti's, but not sure what happening with this place. Seems to keep changing owners and prices are higher and higher every time I go. At one point in the last couple years the food went completely downhill, then they changed owners and they had redeemed themselves, now it seems like they have changed owners again and the food is just not the same and roti's are around 15$ ! Unfortunately, my experience at this restaurant was not great. I decided to give this restaurant/counter a try since they have such great reviews. However, I was quite disappointed. I ordered the goat and chicken roti and within a minute it was ready for pick up. At first bite, I would've liked it to be much hotter as if it were cooked fresh. Also, there was an uneven proportion of meat and potato (favouring the potato) which I was not so pleased about. A quarter way through, I decided to open up the roti and go for the remaining meat. I found myself finding a couple of pieces of chicken remaining with small amounts of goat (mostly fatty pieces). The rest was mostly the dough from the roti. I also got the plantains as a side order and I knew I made a mistake when I tried cutting them into bite size pieces. They were pretty stale, as if they were cooked much earlier in the day (not fresh at all). Needless to say, I was not satisfied. The only reason why I am giving 2 starts and not one is because of the staff and their hot sauce. The staff were friendly and the hot sauce was pretty tasty. read more

I can't critique the food as it remained the same high quality under the new ownership. What is really unacceptable is how rude the new owner is. You work hard and choose to spend your hard earned money in his restaurant and he'll just look at you and refuse to even smile or say hello. My family has been eating at this restaurant for generations. The owner and his family always acknowledge their customers, the gentleman who would sweep and mop always giving each customer his trademark nod hello. I always sat on the left hand side with the fish tank, it was the spot to be. My family moved out of province and with every visit home we come here to eat, it's a taste of home to us. Unfortunately, the last two times I've left in tears. This place no longer feels like home under the new management. The food tastes different, the rice no longer seasoned, the staff no longer customer service oriented, the manager never on-site. I spent twenty plus years receiving a slice of mango on my plate. I remember when a staff tried to hand me my plate without a slice the owner grabbed my plate and ensured it was given to me. I no longer receive a slice of mango, and the salad no longer has dressing on it. I have been going to Curry House for 15 years. Since the ownership has changed this place has been on a steady decline....tonight was exceptionally awful !!! The Oxtail plate was inedible, salty and the portion was extremely small. Will never go back disgusting I wish I had four hands so I could give this place 4 THUMBS down. In town for a few days and One of the many things I love about Canada is its diversity of people which leads to diversity of food. It's been a long time since I had a good roti so that's where my search began. After browsing around I came across this place which had pretty good reviews over all. The location itself isn't that large but it was perfectly personified the family run setup. Once waking in you'll notice the menu is on the wall opposite the counter you place your order at. I glanced over the menu already knowing what I planned to order and was quite surprised by the nice selection of food. Even the Roti selection has many choices . This time I got 1 chicken roti and 1 goat roti. Both of them were excellent but I must say I enjoyed the chicken roti the most. Add a little peppa sauce which is displayed on the table and you have yourself a fantastic snack and/or meal. I defended will give this place another visit when I am back in Montreal. read more

This place is what I want most restaurants to be. Delicious and cheap with friendly people. We had a beef patty, a double, the jerk chicken platter and the goat roti. All were great! I didn't know what a double was, I just ordered it blindly, but it was super tasty and reminded me of samosa chaat. They forgot the goat roti initially so it took a bit longer to get that but it was worth the wait. Jerk chicken had tons of spice and flavor and the chicken was moist. Have you ever had an orgasm in your mouth? Well, that's exactly what happened to me when I tried their Jerk Chicken, flavors exploding everywhere. Spice, zest, heat, tang, all at the same time! The litmus test for Caribbean food has always been how well they do their Jerk Chicken, Oxtail Stew, Ackee (fish) and fried plantains. I have not tried all these items but based on my experience with the Jerk Chicken and Chicken Roti (voted the best in Montreal) that will soon not be the case. If you can't stand spice or heat, or like your food bland, then don't come here, go to Burger King instead. Vegetarians also have options here as they are items like Vegetable Roti on their menu. All items on the menu are $12 or less, this place is a bit small, maybe seats 20 people max, and there is a take-out counter. Not high end dining by any stretch of the imagination but if you need a spice fix done right, then this is the place for you! read more

What surprised me the most is that they prepare their rotis beforehand and only heat them up in the microwave (i think) for a couple seconds before serving...real turn off for me. Food: Goat roti was the best (4/5) but chicken roti (2.5/5) wasnt as tasty as you'd expect and I didnt find it to work well with the spices in the curry (it's the same curry for every roti). The beef patties have a good flaky pastry that is a bit crispy on the outside and not dried out on the inside, but I found the beef filling to be really average: had good flavors but no meat flavor, so it sucked, but at 1.35$ -ish, I didnt complain. Service: The indians, whom I suspect to be the owners, looked unhappy ad unwelcoming both times I visited. They were rude to their staff, and impatient with me. read more

Easily accessible by metro ( plamondon) or car. The restaurant is not fancy at all, but you will get a good vibe! Island music in the background, somewhat friendly staff depending on how their day is going. I always had good service. You can either pick up your food and enjoy at home or eat there. We found this place by luck. We drove down Victoria looking for anything interesting and fist corner we saw was here. I had the mutton Roti which was excellent, while the wife had fish and my son chicken with rice. All was excellent. We ordered jerk wings which were pretty interesting but way to much salt. Actually brought my blood pressure up!!! Would have given 5 stars if that was done right. Service was good and very well priced!! Although area did not look the greatest. The ackee and saltfish, chickpea curry, plantains, potatoes, and beans and rice were all tasty, flavourful, and served in generous portions -- I was very pleasantly surprised by how satisfied I was from this meal! Great Caribbean music, all the smells come together and the staff is smiling and very friendly. The only reason why I didn't give 5 stars is that the service is a little slow and you have to stand in line to get your order taken. Everything on the menu is no more than 15$ and you get very good portion. Perfect use of spices not too much but just enough that you can get your spice fix. My boyfriend and his brother had a Rotti that I tried and wasn't crazy about but the jerk chicken was to die for. Small and cozy with nice reggae music. You order at the cash and go sit and they will call you when your meal is ready. It comes on a platter so it's a bit like in a cafeteria. The jerk chicken is very spicy (like it should be!) and the rotis has a generous of meat (I personally tried the goat and chicken one). If you plan to use street parking, be sure to check the signage. The place: I can't comment on the location or service because a group of us called in our order for pick-up. The process is pretty smooth - just call them to place your order to make sure it's ready for pick-up at the time you plan to go. The goods: I should start by saying that I'm not an expert on Caribbean cuisine. In fact, the extent of my knowledge starts and ends with Jamaican patties. However, I do think I have a decent, though be it, selective palate. I'm a big fan of the Roti - I ordered the shrimp and wasn't disappointed at all. The ratio of shrimp to chickpea/potato/veg was pretty good, and the size of the Roti was definitely big enough for one person. The flavors were subtle, yet delicious - for those of you worried about spice, this isn't spicy at all. Based on my buddy's feedback (he's a regular), these guys will make it as spicy as you want, but you have to ask for it. He also says it's the best place in town to get Roti and so far, I can't disagree. Great place to grab lunch. Service: N/A Price point: The shrimp Roti was $8.95. Got goat roti, doubles, and beef patty. Let's start with the roti... Goat wasn't tender it tasted old and tough. The potatoes in the roti were inedible. Roti skin was alright... I'm used to roti skin having more split pea mixture. Doubles were just horrible. Not authentic. I've had doubles in Trinidad and elsewhere and this was just bad. Not enough chick peas, sweet tamrind sauce and very very thick and dense doubles. Beef patty had a weird sweet taste and it didn't look or taste like beef. I'm a huge fan of west Indian food so naturally I go to Caribbean Curry House . This was not a good visit, the curry was fresh " meaning it smelled amazing but had no flavor" the passion fruit was amazing. So after the fresh curry I went back to ask for two roti skins and I was told that they had a rush now and couldn't afford to sell me two skins because they have customers that might want the same skins that I stood in line for. I used to eat here off and on all the time until about 6 years ago when I moved out of town. When I came back, I had read some mediocre reviews so I had neglected to go back until this past weekend. I had the shrimp plate, which should be called the shrimp and chickpea plate. It was well-spiced and I really enjoyed the curry mixed with the rice and peas. The salad was basic, and the fried plantains (which are one of my favorite things ever) a little dry. I feel as if they make one batch and serve them all day. They have a number of fun drinks, so I had a coconut pineapple soda which reminded me a little bit of cream soda with a tropical twist - really nice.I also tried a bite of my sister's chicken roti, and that had a different combination of spices that was really tasty as well. I came back today to have one of the beef patties, and it was the best patty I have ever had! No lie. It was moist and had the perfect level of heat. My favourite is the roti (chicken) and my newest love is their stew chicken (to die for!). If you are in the area, it's totally worth the detour! read more

Excellent and I do mean Excellent food. I live in Jamaica, Queens, NY...so I have had my share of good Caribbean food. I had the roti and it was definitely the best roti I have ever had. My husband had the oxtail and rice which he said was really good. The service is very good as well, the man who I believe is the owner is a very kind man. Someone mentioned crime? I am not sure but we hung out in the neigborhood for a while before actually going to the restaurant and I felt completely safe, I am from Queens, NY though and it takes a lot to get me shook LOL.
