This is not the best club in Shoreditch - for sure - but it does have history. You can find this place in a little "hidden" deactivated railway that has been turned into a concert/rave venue with lots of crazy people dancing. I must say that I thought my night out here would be a little more "alternative" but this is certainly the mainstreamest place around the area. Personal opinion aside this it's a cool spot. Two dance floors, a bar with a couple of places to sit and an outside area (where you will freeze on Winter). The bouncers are not the most polite people in the world - where are the nice bouncers any way? You will arrive, and it doesn't matter how old you look they will scan your ID, many times. You will come in, and still, not a single smile from them. But the rudeness hasn't arrived yet, they will turn mad specially if you put your coat or purse on a table/chair and dance around it. They will claim it's not safe, but the real reason is: they want you to use their cloakroom (£2 per item). I have never ate here, but they do have a menu. Although if it gets as expensive as the entry you should rather spend your pounds in a nice restaurant, and Shoreditch has plenty of options. read more

We finally got to go in (after complaining for about an hour.) it just felt like they were eyeing our group the whole time even thought we paid for table services. Known for it's Hip Hop and Dance nights, Cargo covers all bases for a great night out, being just gritty enough to know you're in the East, without being frightening! Drinks are reasonably priced, good range of cocktails, but be warned that the bar closes at 2:30am on Fridays and Saturdays, and bar staff and bouncers border on rude at times. The nights at Cargo vary widely. The number of times I've been there I have heard all kinds of music from salsa to deep house. It's a pretty big club with plenty of space to sit down on comfy sofas if you feel like taking 5. Prepare for tourists though, since it's one of the biggest clubs in the area there are plenty to be had! Other than that the crowd is fairly mixed and unintimidating and everyone always seems to be there for a good time. There is a lovely big garden to smoke in and a great little photobooth to have your photo taken in when you get to that stage of drunkenness when crowding 15 people in a 3x3 space seems perfectly normal and acceptable. read more

Danger Danger... High Voltage.... Yup I saw Electric 6 play here and indeed it was guuud! As a music venue they have it down to a tea, a small enough space to be intimate but large enough to get the party started. They also serve my drink of choice, Sailor Jerry's don't you know, so they go up a star just for that. Yep this place is grimy and the bogs are always a bit of a mess but it's a club, what do you expect. They also have a huge outside area which is fantastic for chilling out in, in the afternoons. As a food joint I just can't comment, never eaten here and don't think I ever would. It's not really a destination food spot in my mind. It's been a long time when I grew from dancing all night long while drinking vodka & redbull, so I was a little afraid to go to Cargo. Although, a queue to get in for £10 entry, scanning my ID, security search almost as intense as at the airport, then £2 for cloakroom seemed little excessive, but it was better then expected. The venue is really big, stretched over several different rooms, levels and a garden. Everything is large, so even with the extensive number of visitors, the place doesn't appear overcrowded. The venue is built for 'dance all night long', so the drinks are served in plastic cups, everything is designed purely for functionality and security is at every corner. In terms of the music, it was predicable easy mixture of 90's hits combined with house and remix. So if you want to dance all night long (translate as 3am) go there - it's fun! I was impressed that the toilets had toilet paper and weren't blocked even when closing time. read more

My eyes and ears are still crying Cargo, still crying. I'm debating between two and three stars, but there's not a chance I would come here again unless I came in for free. I've been trying to drag my friends here for two weeks straight trying to convince them to go in for 10 pounds, because of the yelp reviews and we finally did... My friends and I queued in line for half an hour, understandable, and paid 10 quid to get in. Once we were in, all I could feel was uncomfortable because the age gap was too large and I felt like I was swimming in hipster, pretentious heaven. I don't mean to write such an evil review, I just didn't have fun at all. And no, getting drunk doesn't necessarily make a place 100x better. The music busted my ear drums, the smoke machines dried out my eyes and blew cold air all over my shoulders, making me even more sick from the hot-cold, hot-cold temperature transitions. There were also rabbit couples making sure they elbowed into other people and shoved other dancers aside, not including the crazy dancer who everyone voluntarily moved away from. Well, while I have many complaints, I must commend the venue. It's beautiful, artsy and greatly put together. A lovely use of space for outdoors, indoors and party use. The dance floor had a cool vibe, the rooms were warm and cosy, and everything appeared nice. Too bad it's really a "Meh, I've experienced better" experience. I can't bring myself to give it an extra star because I left early (before midnight!) to head back to Koko's. Maybe I need to come when there's a performer I like.... read more

It's dark and it gets a bit filthy. I also had my drink spiked there - so beware. This is all very unfortunate because they do play awesome top 40 music. Have two good sized dancefloors and located perfectly in Shoreditch. If they re-do their interior maybe the place vibe will change. It's also quite expensive for what it is. When I realised that something is wrong with my drink and bouncer tried to tell me that I got too drunk and need to leave - after I could (hardly!) explain that my drink was spiked - she let me lean over her and arranged a black cab home for me - which was very nice of her. read more

Cargo is a stone bunker basically, with an outer room with tables and bars, an outdoor tabled area for smokers, and an inner room with a stage for club nights and live music. It's a bit of a hipster spot, to be sure, but I find it to be on the cool side of pretentiousness. The drinks aren't cheap but watch out for specials. Haven't eaten here. It is a good spot for the occasional up-and-coming musical act, though. I've seen Canadian psychedelic rockers Black Mountain there, as well as Saul Williams and Dan le sac vs Scroobius Pip as part of the London Word Festival. Insanely overpriced tickets and drinks. 2020 New Years Eve Party there was a giant let down. Horrible DJ, boring atmosphere, rude bar tenders, bad drinks, disgusting bathrooms, the list goes on. The clock struck 12 and there were no special effects or anything (was advertised as providing "performers", confetti, etc...). I can't imagine how bad it is on a regular night. First of all it was 20 fucking pounds which is outrageous for this place. Then when my friends and I went to the washroom i had 2 girls look over my stall while i was literally sitting there naked since I wore a one piece/play suit. When I came out I told the girl she couldn't be looking over stalls because its rude and weird and she said I was being rude and that she worked there and had to make sure only one girl was in the toilets at once. Speaking as a customer, I much rather have toilet roll in the stall then being assured there is only one person per stall. Music was decent but fuck the staff. read more

Cargo is so frickin random. I think it's fair to say that the night you're going to have in here really depends on what they've got going on. The fact that they have so much going on is one of the reasons I keep going back. Examples; 1. Post work drinks on Fri have escalated and need a place to party? You head to Cargos and you're paying £10 on the door to watch a beatbox competition 2. Friends Birthday night out? You arrive and the place is at capacity because a Yugoslavian pop star is playing. Lots of shaved heads, odd noses and tracksuits about. 3. Turn up on a Tuesday for a couple of drinks, stay til 1am, stumble out blind drunk and call in sick on Weds. The arches inside make for seperate rooms and atmospheres at time - I like that. The garden is great in the summer. I like that more. I'm off to see a bonafide gig there in a couple of weeks so let's see what happens that night eh?! read more

I've been here a few times this year. Before the last time, I would've rated this place one star, but it TOTALLY REDEEMED ITSELF. My group was able to get a table one busy Saturday night. We negotiated with the doorman to make it to £50 a person rather than £80, and with our table we got bottle service, two rounds of beers and a round of shots that we never ended up taking (oops). The music was decent. I'm still not a fan of their house. It seems they play the same songs over and over. And they never mix in any popular songs with the house. It's literally just similar beats. The outdoor patio room plays more popular music, but the real party is inside the club. All in all a good night. read more

This is not the best place to come if you actually want to hear what the other party is saying--but then, generally, when one is out during the weekend, the louder the better, right? The music on a Thursday night was some rapper that had minimal recognition and was charigng a tenner to get in to see him. A large, popular club in East London, one of the first in this area and maybe one of the reasons the whole 'Shoreditch' scene started? A great thing about Cargo is the outdoor seating, so in the summer if you manage to grab a pew its the perfect place for a relaxed drink. The club attracts an impressive lineage of acts to perform. Lots of dance, hip hop and the like. there's always lots of great dancing going on, and is a fantastic place to go for a bop. Drinks are well cheap too - cocktails for under a fiver. I'm not a club-type-person. We found ourselves at Cargo for a friend's leaving night and had a decent time. Our group had an area reserved in the covered outside area. It was alright, though the heat lamps hilariously kept sputtering on and off with some trouble. Service was spotty and slow and the drinks during the happy hour promotion were pretty weak which, while sometimes common for promotions, was still a little sad. The high point of Cargo is the vintage real film photobooth. I might head back just for the fun of some slow-to-develop black and white photos. They were great fun! read more

Good night here last night. Music is great but theres this one area that plays cheese, from which i stayed away. Music was just a bit too loud to talk, i didnt mind the club area but variety of areas would be better not leaving us with just with the out door area for talking. Great barbecue area outside, last night the weather was great and the out door area was a great place to hang. quite a mixed crowd i got the sense i was taking to successful professionals, hippies, wide boys and bums! Oh man, Cargo! What can I say about Cargo?! "Ew!" and "nasty" are all that comes to mind. All stone floors and arches and where there is colour it's all garish yellows, oranges and blues. It's the kind of place that I reckon was cool fifteen years ago, but now it just feels like a seedy dive, one where you'd expect every surface to be sticky - yuck! Overpriced drinks in plastic cups - not impressed. And the attitude from the staff! We got in there shortly before midnight on a Sunday looking for somewhere to have one more drink before going home. We got our overpriced drinks and asked the bartender what time they closed. He laughed as he told us we had two minutes to drink up. It's a really unpleasant place but I have a fearful dread that one night I could get stupid drunk and end up there again. Despite being around for ages Cargo has still retained its popularity even after the arrival of countless other venues in the same area. This has been largely due to its ability to reinvent itself and remain firmly rooted in its tradition of musical innovation. Principally known for its electro and hip-hop/trip-hop evenings you're always likely to find a band or a DJ doing, or at least trying, something different. Even if you arrive on an off day and the music's not all that great, Cargo still has a great atmosphere to it. The club consists of two rooms, or rather tunnels, that offer one place to dance and one to chill-out. The outdoor area is spacious with lots of seating and a great place for warm summer nights. During the day you will find a range of Mexican food on offer. Cargo does have its drawbacks; the food and drinks and pretty expensive and the bar closes obscenely early even on the weekend. Don't let this put you off however, the bar staff know what they're doing and the drinks are delicious despite the price tag. read more

Cargo is a cool club/bar located below the East Line on Rivington. I am particularly fond of the outdoor area and love going there when the weather is agreeable. The place overall has a cool vibe and I am suer gets cranking around midnight. I would say this is a must stop for a pub/bar/club crawl is your in the hood. read more

This place used to be really big back before I left London to go to Uni. There weren't as many clubs around in Shoreditch then and the vibe was a whole lot edgier. Cargo is a little bit stuck in time as a result and hasn't really undergone much of a haircut and brush up. It's mostly about the live music though so inevitably you can get good nights and some really bad ones. I think the best recommendation is to check their site first and make sure you like the sound of the sound because it can work out an expensive and not so great night otherwise. If you happen to be in on a good night the courtyard area can be really nice and the atmosphere is even helped by the slightly 'back in the day' feel. Cargo, I imagine like a lot of others, was one of the first clubs I went to East London. As other reviewers have mentioned it has been around for quite a while, and it seems to attract quite a high standard of performers. The inside of the club is divided into one large area with seating, and a smaller room where performances take place; both rooms have bars. Outside there is a large, and rather handsome, seating area. I do like it physically as a venue, however, it does feel a little confused. Whilst perhaps not a fair indictment I've never really had a great time here. The last thing I saw here was Vladislav Delay & TVOTR as part of the Concrete & Glass festival. The performance hall felt too small for both the acts. TVOTR was incredibly jam-packed. A good place but best to go if the band is a favourite and relatively small. read more

Decided to go here for my birthday as I'd heard it was a great bar/club. Booked well in advance for a group of around 18 of us and was impressed with the area reserved and treatment by the staff. Loved the atmosphere, very creative and artsy including a Banksy outside in the seating area! Also liked the great mix of music and crowd of people. Will definitely be back for another night out very soon! I've danced many a night away in here after work and heard some great bands too. There's a regularly changing line-up, so check out their monthly listings for upcoming artists. There's an outdoor area too with a separate section for diners. The food is kind of Brazilian Street food, for example sweet potato chips, brazilian curry and tortilla wraps with guacamole, salsa and sour cream. And the bar serves a wide selection of cocktails, including mojitos. It's a bit dark inside, but that doesn't matter for an evening venue. I've often had lunch here too great if you can get an outside table in summer. And they do a very rich hot chocolate if you need some fortification in winter! read more

i really liked this club/bar. i went to see Glass Candy play there in one the back rooms. it was a cool venue and very cool scene. i really liked the outdoor seating. i'm sure it would be awesome on a summer night. the crowd was cool but not too cool which is important. one negative was that i had to wait in a pretty serious line to get in even though i had a ticket to the event and the place was empty. i picked up some whiskey at the liqueur store near by which helped for the wait. all in all it's a pretty cool place. read more

I came here for an event on Wednesday, and whilst it's not the first place I would think of coming, I like the space. But, it's so vast that unless it's really pumping on a Friday night, it can feel a bit meh. The only place it was busy was the area that was cordened off for the event. But, the staff were friendly, the space is amazing and they can whip up a decent cocktail (whilst flirting, which is always appreciated). The stupid thing is, I'm not really a 'big dancey bar' kinda girl, I'm getting old after all. So whilst I think it's too boring mid-week, I'm not sure I'd come here late on a Friday either. There's no happy medium with this bar, and call me dull and old before my time (many people do), but I'm a big fan of the happy medium. I can't fault this place, it does everything you expect a huge warehouse bar in Shoreditch to do. I just wouldn't come back. read more
