This area doesn't immediately strike one as particularly creepy at all, with grand white buildings, wide open boulevards and manicured parkland. But once you're on the ghost tour, you hear lots of spooky stories that cover both fact and fiction, and it's left up to you to decide which is which. Some is obvious to distinguish, but at other times it's a bit frustrating not to be sure which snippets are true and which are made up. That said, the obvious facts are very informative, and it's interesting even as a Cardiff resident to find out more about the area - plus the actor and tour guide David Thompson who runs it is very entertaining. The walk is offered throughout the year for group bookings only (10 or more people) costing £5 per adult (£4 for others), or if less there's a minimum charge of £40.

This Cardiff equivalent, run by trained tour guide Jim Cowan, offers a variety of themed walks: one in the city centre, playing detective and spotting clues to Cardiff's past; another discovering the legends of the fairytale Castell Coch, featuring a dramatic kidnapping of a Norman Lord by a rebellious Welsh Prince; and one in Llandaff village, dominated by its impressive cathedral, where visitors take a ghost tour (rated "excellent" by 8 travellers on TripAdvisor). Friends of mine booked some of their visiting family onto the city centre walk, and they came back full of facts about the city that us residents didn't know. The walk lasted about 90 minutes and only cost about £4 per person because it was booked in advance (you can do this online) - it costs a pound more if you pay on the day. You can also arrange a private guided walk at other times for £20 if you don't want to go as part of a group (the price increases if there is more than one of you).

The itinerary was excellent and none of the individual drives we had were over 45 minutes. We visited Caerleon, Tintern Abbey and Raglan Castle. The group we were with was fairly small and the van was comfortable, though the A/C struggled a bit. The trip was leisurely and the sites were interesting. I didn't realize just how large a presence the Romans had in Wales. We also saw Tintern Abbey which so very impressive as a ruin I can only imagine the impression it created when in use. Abbey Mill was pleasant and the walk along the river after lunch was very nice. Raglan Castle was interesting as well. It was an enjoyable day and Adrian worked hard to see that we were having a good time. I would definitely recommend them.

Cosmeston Medieval Village is a fantastic place to visit with family and friends. The reconstructed village is in situated in Cosmeston Park, near their visitor centre and cafe, so you really can make the trip a whole day if you want to (I recommend wholeheartedly), but it can also only be a few hours. The tour takes you around a village, complete with barns, bakeries and roaming chickens. The guides are fun and informative, and there's a multitude of people all wearing bright Medieval garb. There is also, of course, a chance to dress up, if so required. This day is great fun and informative; a wonderful way to get kids and adults alike involved with history.

You wander around the 14th century Welsh village visiting different medieval houses and buildings, and encountering costumed people along the way, going about their daily routines - whether it's cooking, farming, or making crafts. In this way, you kind of step back in time and enter medieval village life. There are also a range of animals such as chickens, ducks and pigs that would have been kept in villages during that period. There are lots of special events taking place at the village throughout the year, too - from medieval fairs where you can buy crafts, play games, see falconry displays and have a go at archery, to Halloween at Cosmeston when you can experience the dark side of medieval life.

Full confession: actually my brother is a massive fan of Banksy and it he who introduced me to his art, and our whole reason to actually come to Bristol on a weekend getaway, was to check out the various bits of Banksy's artwork scattered around the city (the fact that we both just fell in love with the vibrancy and charm of the city of Bristol is a whole another story!) Banksy 'Love Cheat' Mural was the first Banksy we saw, and one of the tour stops during the Blackbeard To Banksy - Ultimate Bristol Walking Tour. The name of this artwork is "Love Cheat" and is a perfect example of Banksy's ironic sense of humor as the work is scintillated on the side-wall of a sexual health clinic. Our guide told us that Banksy apparently created a full scaffolding, pretending to be a construction worker and when the council wanted to paint over it, local Bristolians set up a petition that prevented the artwork from being painted over. The a few years back, the council decided to sell the building and what they did was genius - they listed it as an artwork with a building attached! The new owners have offices on the main floor, but the basement is a swanky cocktail club with a secret entrance. One things that took me aback was the size of the stencil - it's absolutely the size of a window in someone's room! Also, when I came in April 2019, it had been vandalized with blue paintball pellets - our tour guide told us those apparently appeared after a local radio interview in which Banksy admitted to a being a fan of Bristol football club with red colours (their rivals wear blue, hence the blue paintball pellets!). The second bit of vandalism is because apparently there is the local graffiti ''artist" called ''KAPE'' and he thinks its funny (ha-ha not!) to go around and signing his name over all the local area famous graffiti artworks! So when you see my photos, you can see both these vandalized bits of work too. Anyway, seeing this was just so amazing and super chuffed I got to see a Banksy artwork up close and personal. I think not! I called several car services that couldn't help us due to the last minute booking. Fortunately, I reached Craig at Roman Bath Private Hire. He picked us up at the train station in a spotless, very comfortable car, ran us out to the hotel to drop our bags and dropped us off in town for lunch at a Thai restaurant he recommended (a wonderful meal), and an afternoon walking tour of the notable sights of Bath. Then he worked with us to put together a bespoke tour of Lacock Village and Abbey, the lovely village of Castle Combe and countryside, finishing up at an overlook in a park with spectacular views of Bath, river and surrounding area. The next day, he drove us to our airport hotel by way of Stonehenge and Salisbury Cathedral, two sights added at his suggestion. We would not otherwise have seen them, so we jumped at the chance to do so. We arrived at the hotel relaxed and ready for dinner. Craig saved our visit to Bath, making great recommendations and suggestions that made the visit so much more special and enjoyable. We would definitely choose his service when we return to Bath and highly recommend Roman Bath Private Hire for anyone visiting the area.
