There are very few cities in the world where you can pitch up a tent or caravan right in its centre, legally anyway and spend the night under the stars. I tried it in Paris once but didn't get more than an hours sleep before i was moved on.
However here in Cardiff things are little more civilized. Cardiff Council in their wisdom have provided such a facility right next to Sophia Garden where the city centre is but a hop skip and a jump away (although i'd advise you just to walk it if you're over the age of 6 otherwise you might draw some strange looks from strangers).
It has an on site cafe, toilets, showers and everything, well i say everything but that's about it - well what more do you want when you're trying to get closer to mother earth?
Camping is as little as £16 per tent per night - so if you have 3 people in a tent that works out as...well you do the math.
