Had my appointment today at pulse heart Institute. Called a few weeks ago to schedule an…read moreappointment and admittedly the hold time was pretty long, but once I got on the phone, they were able to offer me an appointment time that worked for my schedule. Arrive today about five minutes before my appointment time and checked in... The front desk staff was very kind and verified my information and appointment time. I waited about five or six minutes before I was called back for my appointment. The nurse was kind and introduced herself, and explained the process to me. She was extremely efficient, letting me know she just needed access to my rib cage and my upper chest so unless I wanted to, there was no reason to undress as long as I could roll up my shirt. She explained about lightly exfoliating my skin, and why it was necessary before doing it, which was very helpful. I can understand how might be surprising or distressing for someone who is not expecting it. The EKG itself took less than five minutes, and once that was completed, I waited for a nurse to discuss my results with me. That wait was also less than five minutes and the nurse that came in was kind, respectful, informative, and double checked my reason for getting the EKG and the provider that it was supposed to be faxed to. He explained that the EKG would be reviewed one last time by another doctor to verify the results and then would be signed and faxed off to my provider. Overall, I had a very positive experience. The office itself is a little bit outdated, but other than that - which doesn't affect my actual care - I would say this is a five star experience. I very much appreciate efficiency and accuracy, as well as the ease of scheduling.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience trying to contact Pulse Heart Institute in Puyallup…read more I called to schedule an appointment for my 87-year-old grandmother, whom I personally care for, after she was referred to their office for cardiac care. My first call resulted in me being on hold for **50 minutes**, only to be disconnected. I called back and was placed on hold for another **27 minutes**, and that call was also dropped. I am now calling for a third time and was told that I am **number 28 in the call queue**. This level of service is incredibly disheartening--no pun intended--especially when we are talking about patients with heart conditions who are being referred to your facility for care. What makes this even more concerning is that there is **no hold music, message, or indication that the call is still connected**. You are simply sitting in silence for an extended period of time. If you are an elderly patient who doesn't have a smartphone that alerts you when a call has disconnected, you could easily sit there waiting without even realizing you've been disconnected. That is not an acceptable experience for patients trying to access healthcare. I completely understand that healthcare facilities can experience staffing shortages and high call volumes, but this goes beyond simply being busy. Patients and caregivers should not have to spend nearly two hours repeatedly trying to get through just to schedule an appointment. I truly hope Pulse Heart Institute addresses this issue for the sake of the many patients--especially elderly and vulnerable patients--who are being referred there for cardiac care. **Pulse Heart Institute, please DO BETTER.** Patients deserve better access, communication, and consideration when they are trying to receive care.

This is a heartfelt review of the cardiovascular physicians, surgeons and nurses in this fine…read moredepartment. I've been under the care of my cardiologist, Dr. Christopher Johnson, for a few years for some heart issues. During an angiogram he performed last February along with interventional cardiologist Patrick Goleski he discovered some arterial nastiness that could have become life threatening if not treated. Dr. Patrick Goleski performed the follow up angioplasty/stent implants last month and I can feel the difference. It was strange that morning entering the Bremerton Harrison Medical Center because I first had to verify I was a patient and not an employee, and then I was alone with the nurses in the surgery ward for two hours until Dr. Goleski and the surgical team walked in. About 90 minutes later when I was wheeled out of the OR there was one other patient waiting his turn. I had the pleasure of getting to know Dr. Goleski better in two follow up video visits. Without his face mask he has a warm smile and a humorous bu compassionate manner. He answered all my questions and gave me reassurances I could believe. The cardiology nurses who have called to check up on me and review different blood test results have been uniformly superb with their telephoneside manner and finding answers to my questions. Since the surgery, Dr. Johnson has answered questions I directed to him through the My Chart portal displaying his easygoing yet informative style. Before the surgery I hadn't really seen that much of him because Samantha Bylsma, PA-C, took over the handling of my care under the direction of Dr. Johnson. Sam and I truly have an interactive partnership where we discuss what the status of my heart and related issues (like blood pressure) are, she makes recommendations for my ongoing treatment and gets my agreement on all changes or what will just continue to be monitored. She's an exceptional physician to work with . I'm going to refrain from giving my opinions on the state of the business of medical care in this county. What I will emphasize is how fortunate I've been to be referred to the Bremerton office of HHP Cardiovascular Consultants and to the medical professionals who were assigned to handle my care. Would I recommend this office to others? In a heartbeat...

I am aware that the doctors themselves are talented, as well as the nurses. Dr. Segerson is well thought of, and his nurse is a fine nurse. So I have no issue there; they're good doctors as far as i know. My issue is how their front office staff is snippy, and how you have to call them and stay on them to get basic information. As the cliche goes, you have to be your own health care advocate, but I had an experience of being treated nastily for being my own health care advocate. I called and found out that an appointment for some complicated procedure had been scheduled for me, without my knowledge, and when I started asking questions, the receptionist hung up on me. I experienced that as disrespectful of someone who has a life-threatening health problem (atrial fibrillation), and was simply trying to get information about their own care. That was one of the moments when you know that as a patient, you're a piece of meat being processed at the meat-processing facility.

I averaged this out to a 4-star experience. Dr. Warner deserves five stars (details to follow),…read morebut some of the other doctors...3-stars or less. If you're referred here or looking for a cardiologist, I'd 100% recommend Dr. Cynthia Warner. She is friendly, knowledgable, has a fantastic bedside manner, and never rushes through an appointment even if it's clear they are behind schedule. She's responsive to phone calls...either returning them personally or making sure her staff does in a timely manner. She also has a great memory (or she at least takes the time to write thorough notes, including personal tidbits of conversation, and then reads them prior to entering the exam room). In addition to being able to greet us by name and remember specific details of my husband's cardio problem, she's also asked us how our honeymoon went, how our dog is, etc. Plus, she'll laugh at my husband's cheesy jokes. Meanwhile.... Dr. Warner only does certain aspects of cardio treatment while some of the other doctors in the office specialize in others. Our interactions with Dr. Haynes (the founding cardiologist of the practice) and Dr. Rodrigues (who doesn't appear to be with the practice any more) were not as stellar. We had to see Dr. Haynes during an appointment following a weekend ER visit because Dr. Warner was out of the office that week. Dr. Haynes has great bedside manner, but we didn't get much out of a followup appointment with him... He didn't want to come down firm on any decisions because he wasn't my husband's primary cardiologist. A fair stance, but one that was a waste of our time and money...the point of them making us schedule a followup appointment to an ER visit is to discuss treatments and medication dosages so we would hopefully not end up at the ER again. We had to come back and talk Dr. Rodrigues the next week after, get this, another ER visit the following weekend. Oh Dr. Rodrigues.... since it appears he is no longer with this practice, I'll keep it on the short side. He specializes in the kind of cardiac care and procedure my husband needed, but our experience with him was frustrating: everything always felt rushed - he's very busy and almost has too many patients, which makes your time with him crunched and his memory terrible. Because of the terrible memory (and/or lack of time to read chart notes prior to entering the room), you have spend the first part of each appointment establishing your history again, which leaves little time for the rest of the appointment and the more serious issues, questions, etc. He gave us conflicting information all the time, his post-procedure treatment varied greatly from the timeline he had given us prior to the procedure (and because of this my husband may have undergone an unnecessary second procedure), he couldn't even remember my husband's name (at least just look down at the chart in front of you, read it, and pretend you remember), he took my husband's obvious jokes seriously, and he left us out of the loop when it came to two important pieces of medical information we should have had about my husband's heart before we made the decision to have my husband undergo the second procedure. He's clearly super smart and the medical community seems to agree he's a very skilled surgeon, but his bedside manner, interpersonal skills, and general doctor skills could use some work.

What a mess.... the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing! Don't have an urgent…read moreissue, because you can't get in. Scheduling is a nightmare. This clinic used to be top notch, sadly not so much anymore.
