I write this review conveying my sole opinions based on factual events that transpired…read more My father, a heart patient with diagnosed congestive heart failure ventured into Florida Heart Associates to see Dr. Catherine Law, MD---a former employee of Lee Health and Lee Physician Group. This was in April 2019. For five years, my father was on the same diuretic medication being Lasix 40mg once per day. My father also has chronic kidney disease and between this and his CHF, there has to be a delicate balance with medications. Now, with that said, being a doctor or not, why would you change something if everything is working as it should for years? This should be common sense, a dying element in today's healthcare. In April 2019, Dr. Law changed my father's diuretic from Lasix 40mg to Torsemide 10mg in order to better preserve the kidneys. This was her explanation and recommendation. My father spent the entire summer of 2019 in and out of Cape Coral Hospital and HealthPark as a result of fluid retention due to improper diuretic management all due to Dr. Law's prescription of Torsemide. You have no idea what it's like to watch your father, your best friend, gasping for air every, single day, unable to help him and watch helplessly as doctors, like Dr. Law goad over him as if they've done nothing wrong. I witnessed this when my mother and I drafted a letter to the nurse stating that we do not want Dr. Law coming in to see my father during his SECOND hospital visit in TWO WEEKS because WE DON'T TRUST HER. Dr. Law then became indignant, wanting to come in and argue with my mother and father over PATIENT'S RIGHTS to choose who presides over them in a hospital. She went against the first virtue of medicine: Do No Harm. My father was in the hospital THREE TIMES in SEVEN WEEKS. His last visit rendered him unable to breathe correctly for the rest of his life. As his son, I have to watch in tears as my father, a man who loved the outdoors, now confined to a chair, cries, wanting it all to end and I have to lie to him, saying it will get better with the 14 pills he has to take everyday just so he can survive. His quality of life is all but gone and I blame Dr. Law. Dr. Law, you should have practiced common sense and instead, doctors like you, full of pride and blatant disregard, feel the need to constantly change and prescribe a battery of tests and scripts when sometimes, the status quo, if it works, should be left alone. What you have done to my father and my family is unforgivable. You have robbed my family of peace and my father of his quality of life.

When she asked him, "Does this get worse?" he responded, "Are you asking me if you're gonna be breathing like you are now, ten years from now? Nobody does." This stopped my mom in her tracks and honestly facilitated a sense of denial. This diagnosis is not anything anyone wants to hear, so in the absence of a suggested protocol, my mom went on living her life as she had been. It was only through acquaintances that she began to hear that you can stop the progression of COPD and pursue physical rehab, along with a specific diet involving low salt among other things. Dr. Eisenberg simply put her on inhalers. He gave her no guidance for how to pursue a quality of life and, more importantly, stop the progression of this deadly disease. It's up to your doctor to give you options of how to make you feel better, not just tell you what's wrong. Imagine if my oncologist had simply said, "Welp, you've got cancer!" My mom at last went to a new pulmonologist because she realized she didn't have all the information. She is now attending a physical rehab facility three times a week who can tend to her needs. ALL THIS BEING SAID, my understanding is that many pulmonologists fail to suggest this rehab. So this review is not for this doctor alone, it extends to other pulmonologists who don't give their patients a proactive way to fight this disease. This needs to change. My mother has now been told she is fighting for her life with this new protocol. I wish she'd known to start it over a year ago when she was originally diagnosed.

My barely 25‑year‑old daughter, Taylor, died after what multiple independent physicians and an…read moreautopsy have confirmed was reckless medical negligence and neglect in an HCA Florida Hospital where she was taken after being rear‑ended at a red light. Her internal bleeding went undiagnosed for about eight hours despite glaring signs. Once imaging was finally ordered and active internal bleeding was confirmed, surgery was delayed for roughly seven more hours. In the meantime, the doctor ordered mass blood transfusion in an improper way that worsened her condition instead of stabilizing her, while failing to move the central line that was improperly placed and that the radiologist recommended be repositioned. HCA Healthcare has faced no consequences, and there is no way for people researching physicians through the Florida Department of Health (DOH), the medical licensing board, to see what happened to my daughter. Because she was 25, unmarried, and had no children, Florida's 'Free Kill' law strategically blocked me from pursuing legal recourse to ensure the hospital and its physicians are held accountable so the harm does not continue. I was drawn to Lee because they're hooked up to My Chart and Epic, which provides continuity of care with all member subscribers. Providers are able to pull up my medical history, as am I, going back to when I lived in Atlanta. (From my vantage, this should be a national system so all doctors are on the same page, so to speak.) I've had both excellent experiences at Lee and some that left me scratching my head in wonder. One provider neglected to thoroughly review a CT scan. Had I not read my report, a potentially problematic result would have been ignored. It goes without saying that you have to be vigilant and proactive about your own health. If you don't have the mental acuity to do that, hopefully someone close can step in on your behalf. (I saw the necessity to oversee all of my mother's healthcare when she was in her nineties and still very sharp.) The Lee facilities I've been to are modern and well-tended. The staff has always been polite with ancillary personnel efficient and qualified. Their labs are well-run and infinitely better than the independent places I've gone to when out of town. While no system is perfect, I'm by-and-large pleased with Lee.
