1st time visiting Cardenas, but have had their rotisserie chicken thighs w/corn tortilla & salsa. It is a very busy grocery store regardless of the time of day. I love the variety of items & would revisit when in the area

It's never a quick trip here. Whether it be a long wait for the butcher or for the register, you get stuck waiting. At the butcher there's 1-3 workers for over probably 15+ families just waiting. And mind you they are in no way in a rush to help folk. Workers go in n out.

Certain workers, mostly the younger females that work here between age 20-35 are extremely rude, they look so unhappy and miserable. They all need to get replaced by friendlier workers that actually have a little pride in their job. But that's not why I am here writing this review... A day Before Christmas I came here to buy LA ROSCA DE REYES PAN, a traditional bread that is used in Mexican Christmas tradition, supposed to have 2-3 little plastic baby toy inside to be inside of the bread, so someone in your family will pick it out, and have to throw a posada party. It's a Mexican tradition. We'll..... THIS BREAD FROM CARDENAS DID NOT HAVE ANY TOY INSIDE, the advertisement on the container does say it will have it, FALSE advertising. Breaking a Mexican tradition, and selling false advertisement. There is no integrity in this, and it is unacceptable and extremely dishonest, disservice to the Hispanic community who follow tradition. Never comming back to this horrible store.

The generic response to my review is crazy... I've called corporate multiple times, I've emailed and still almost a year later, never received any response from corporate... Literally am afraid to step into Cardenas due to this incident

9/17/22 Wow, mangos on steroids. Still bought some. Lol

Review update/duplicate to link all my pictures:) Also increased to 5 stars, as I am still a regular customer. We have been shopping here since it was Mi Pueblo Supermarket. In 2016, KKR bought Mi Pueblo and Cardenas and in 2017, they merged the supermarkets together, getting rid of the Mi Pueblo brand. Actually, the founder of Mi Pueblo, Juvenal Chavez, has a very inspiring story about how he started and finished with the $300m company. Sadly, he then went into bankruptcy in 2013. Quality/Quantity - Produce is ripe, ready to eat. If you want to buy produce to eat later, you need to go to other brands. Atmosphere - Huge, clean store, except bathrooms. Bathrooms are not dirty, just not clean. Plenty of parking. Meat & Seafood Departments - marinated meats and a full service butcher staff Produce - I buy most of my produce here Bakery - FRESH tortillas made throughout the day Hot Deli Grocery - department I shop the least at Customer service - Western Union, check cashing, utility payments, money transfers and money orders Be careful as they have aggressive people approach you in the parking lot for $$ at times. Service - Good and since I come here once a week on the same day and time, everyone knows me. Funny part is that I speak Spanish to them and they reply in english, LOL They also have a scholarship program through their foundation. Price - Best sale prices out of all the supermarkets here. I buy most, if not all of my produce here, and my chicken here also. Owner Suggestion - Keep up the good work. Keep your parking lot safer. Too many aggressive people. I know you are in Las Vegas; I suggest coming out to Reno also. I think you will do very well there.

Size of Cardenas bite size tripe in the menudo, disgusting AF

Don't get the menudo, it was so disgusting, there was a huge piece of tripe that was 2 inches wide by 3.5 inches long, God damn, dont be lazy and cut it into but size pieces, but the flavor was rancid, not sure if they cleaned it but it was inedible, please look at one of the other pieces they were too lazy to accurately prep!

Metal pellet in Flap meat from Cardenas Market off High Street in Oakland.
Mi'Amor E.

So disappointed. We purchased about $105 worth of flap meat for our son's party and my husband cooked a couple of pieces of the flap meat to bite into A SMALL METAL PELLET!! That was already horrible to bite into a metal pellet, So we were like maybe it was just that piece, but NO HE BIT INTO ANOTHER SMALL METAL PELLET!!!! Never again are we purchasing anything from there as we do not know where their product is coming from and how their meat is being handled. Another thing is I called them almost 10x with the number that is on their receipt and no pick up what so ever. It's not even a real business number but someone's cell phone number that won't even pick up yet alone leave a voicemail because they havent set up their voicemail.

3.8 stars $1.25 Taco Tuesday! @CardenasMarkets around the Bay Area $1.25 Tacos at Cardenas Markets on Taco Tuesdays! Visit their cocina for some delicious cheap tacos! So affordable , you can treat your friends and family. Ps. These are $1 tacos, pls don't compare these to the $4-5 tacos and then start complaining.

8-pc Leg and Thigh grilled chicken, beans, rice, salsa and tortillas.
Steve D.

OK, this is my first time ordering hot food from this market. Wow, they give you alot of food! I ordered the 8-piece grilled chicken combo (leg and thigh), and I had no idea it was so much food. They consider 1-piece of chicken to be the leg and thigh together. So their 8-pc bucket is 16 pieces everywhere else. Then they add fluffy rice, refried beans, and warm tortillas. I am truly surprised at how big the portions are. Very good deal. Only negative thing, the grilled chicken was a little overcooked and dry.

Hey I like some veggies and fruit and shrooms also but most of my diet is meat and seafood, as mama God intended it to be. It is awesome to have such a nice family owned butcher shop in town that is all about quality. I have purchased oysters, chicken, salmon, bacon and different cuts of meat over the years and all fresh and fantastic. They also have duck which I haven't purchased yet be cause I don't have my brothers insane duck recipe. That will change soon. The other items I buy are bones and oxtails for bone broth. In the freezer section are meaty oxtails, lamb and beef neck bones and sometimes knuckle bones. In the meat counter they have cut up leg bones. My number one place for bones. Store bought bone broth pales in compareson to my recipe and even though a takes a hot minute to make, it's worth it. The staff is great and very knowledgeable.

I get home, unwrap it, and it's the goddamn tip! UNTRIMMED with a big slice thru it on one side! ((Temper, Temper)). Needless to say you have lost a frequent customer. It will be worth the extra miles to return to my butcher in Berkeley. I trimmed 7.oz of thick fat and gristle off this, and now have to try and piece it together like a puzzle. I was a Chef! I know how to cut meat! I've added pictures of the Switcharoo cut he wrapped for me. I wanted this dinner to be a positive offering for family, closest friends and Vietnam Veterans my husband served with as we memorialized my husband.$170. 00 PSH! Way too much for this mess. Grand total of fat and gristle= 7.0 oz. What a heartbreaking scam cup and ball game

And after gazing at their product listing one day, I can kinda tell that they probably service a lot of ethnic shops like taquerias and small brick n mortars. You actually don't see or interact with any of their products directly. Upon opening their public door, there's a small office with a window. There's a current product sheet there with current pricing. You have to go by this and not with what you got in the past, or internet postings, as this sheet will be their current inventory and pricing. And pricing these days can vary greatly from week to week as well as supply. There's also a hanging bulletin board that has a lot of weekly specials. Once you've found something, you just place the order with the nice receptionist. She'll draw up a receipt and take your payment. CASH ONLY (for some reason). You then have to go outside where your car is and wait for a warehouse employee to bring it out to you. They are quick, like I've never had to wait more than 3 minutes. I've tried this place like 3 times now since I work nearby and just hit this up on my way home. Here are some finds: *In a very industrial zone of San Leandro. Close to the Costco but much deeper in industrial streets. Can't see it from a main road. Gotta go under an overpass then parallel a railroad track. Now that I know where it is at, it's a breeze. But first time looking it was a bit of a challenge. *All meats I've gotten thus far are frozen solid. But nicely frozen where you won't have to break anything separating things. Lots of things are well sealed in tight cryovac. So will have to spend time defrosting goods, can't go home and start cooking. But I just put whatever I'm planning on cooking in the fridge for a good day and just cook it the next day or so. And in what meats I've gotten even though frozen at one point is still of really good quality once defrosted. *Beef seems somewhat 'Choice grade' but I haven't seen any labeling to say so. Steaks I've tried are meatier and chewier than most grocery stores in my area, but in a good way. Feels more natural and not as 'water-y'. I've only tried 1 lb Rib Eye Steaks and thin cut NY strips so far, and have been more than pleased. Also tried some lamb shoulder chops and they too made for good dishes. *Pricing less than retail grocery stores unless there is mass grocery sale. Competive with Costco beef pricing but here you'll have to defrost something slowly. But you won't have to go through the Costco grind of getting aggravated in the parking lot, weaving through hundreds of people and waiting in life-sucking lines. I mean I'll still go to Costco, but if I can go to Costco less, then I've just freed up a big part of my personal time. *If I'm ever gonna feed a big group, big bbq, holiday party, big potluck etc., this will be a legit option. You can get cases of stuff here, whole ribeyes and briskets, cases of chicken/pork/lamb. They even have bacon, sausage and common cheeses on wholesale. And a big draw here is they have a ton of ethnic meats, which is why I'm sure they deal with a lot ethnic mom n pops. Tripe, suadero, beef cheeks, pork necks, livers all here. Probably won't find that stuff at Costco. *Warehouse hours, open like super early like 6-7 am and close by noon. Works for my hours but not for many others. Good fit for me, so they'll become a resource for me.

It used to be called Dimond meats and has been in that location since the 1920s. (learn something new everyday). I'd been meaning to start shopping here, mainly because the quality of grocery chain meat has gone down hill and since the man doesn't eat meat It's more prudent for me to get smaller portions which you can do at the butcher. You can also get other meat like rabbit, goat and such here. I'd visited the chain grocery and couldn't find fresh Turkey legs. What they had in their freezer case looked so unappetizing and were breasts or thighs and even the grocery butcher said to try the local meat market. So I called up Waylands to see if they had and they could get in with in a weeks time. When the time comes, off I trott (no pun intended) to pick them up. 4 fresh turkey legs, no frozen in preservative injected water. The line was out the door, but the staff were so helpful and quick. They smelled fresh, and cooked up great. I put them in the crockpot, so toughness or rubbery texture that the grocery poultry is starting to have. They also have andouille, boudin, turkey, hot links and other items. I can also get oxtails and have them cut smaller if I want. Once I've used up my frozen meat selection I will be return to them. Prices are great too. My 4 turkey legs only cost me $17. Also while waiting in line, I notice they have sandwiches, so I will swing by to pick one up before start of my shift one day.
