Don't forget to try the gras hoppers, yes they are on the menu and quite good. The drinks were good, especially the margaritas. Everything comes with a generous portion of aguacate and the frijoles were amazing. The salsas were delicious but unfortunately not spicy, although others might think differently. Gotta try this place if you are staying in the Coyoacán.

I walked to the tranquil downtown Coyoacan area and saw La Casa de los Tacos was open, so porque no? The girls were so nice. And they were open with a few diners inside. It was kind of empty and chill, but the ambiance was festive and exciting due to the music and activities going on in el parque nearby. I was so hungry I wanted to eat everything, so I got the tacos con chapulines (HELLA FIRE) and a side plate of arroz con platanos. I also ordered a beer, but that never came out. Their salsas are hella good. Especially that insane truffle one, who knew! It was SO good. The pan fried platanos were so delicious and the perfect little craving I needed for a sweet treat afterwards. They accept cash and card, and make sure you tip you extranjero/turista!

My friend who grew up in the area recommended stopping here and it was a great pit stop for a bite to eat and peruse a few souvenir stalls. We went towards late afternoon/early evening and I am not sure if it's the norm, but booths were starting to close down. We got a great and dirt cheap bite to eat, and saw lots of affordable local trinkets. I don't know if any of the goods were stand out, but definitely some fun stuff from glassware, keychains, coasters, cookware, and so much more. I don't know if they take card, as we used cash, which definitely seems more appropriate for the space. The aisles are small, so i imagine when it's really busy it can get a bit hard to maneuver, but at around 4:45 or so, it wasn't an issue at all.

Mercado de Coyoacán popped up as a convenient option since it's within a 10 minute walking distance from both Museo Frida Kahlo and Museo Casa Kahlo. Open since 1921 (though originally in a different location), on an early Sunday afternoon this appeared to be a popular place to visit, with plenty of people eating lunch at the many food stands, picking up groceries as well as a number of tourists exploring the aisles. The market is divided into sections, another Yelper compared it to Ben Thanh market in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (aka Saigon), and I'd agree this reminded me of a smaller version of that, and the setup is very similar! And by smaller by my estimate there's still more than 150 vendors here, so relatively speaking tons to explore (if that gives you an idea of how large BT market is)! Different sections of the market sell different items, there are areas for apparel, accessories, vegetables and fruit, butchers and seafood, spices/condiments/sauces, dried goods and coffee, food stalls, handicrafts and souvenirs interspersed in between. Each stall has a number tho you may need to do some wandering around to locate a specific one if you're searching for it. Vibrant sights, smells and sounds greet you at every corner, since it was around lunchtime the delicious scents of food wafting around made me hungry! I ate at one of the more popular stalls and food was decent though perhaps not stellar imho. However I may not have ordered the right items and it was also one of many choices so I'm sure there are other tasty items to try. The aisles are very narrow, enough for one person to pass thru in some cases, so take that into account. Bathrooms are available though not clear on conditions. Cash is preferred, or required at some stands, and a number of vendors also take credit cards with chips. For more info: https://mexicocity.cdmx.gob.mx/venues/coyoacan-market/?lang=en

They brought out this dip and large chip that was delicious, and the cocktails were excellent. We'd eaten at their other location in Oaxaca and needed a bite to eat after we landed and checked in at our hotel. We arrived around 9pm on a Wednesday, and it was lively and a little busy, but we were able to be seated directly. I ordered a Mexican rosé wine, and my husband had a couple of cocktails. We enjoyed all the drinks we ordered. The food I was a little less happy with. My husband got the enmoladas de pato (heirloom corn cortillas stuffed with confit duck and covered in black mole on one and green mole on the other, with aged cheese and pickled onions. The dish was pretty good, easily the best of the night. I had the Ceviche Verde (fish cured in salt and marinated in citrus juice, oregaon, and herb pesto) and the Tostada de huitlacoche (a tostada with huitlacoche confited in olive oil and herbs and creamed avocado). The ceviche was fine (cutting it in smaller pieces might have led to it being a bit more tender and easy to eat), but I didn't enjoy the tostada. Rather than being a tostada with huitacoche on top of it (as the menu and my instincts suggested), it was about two cups of huitlacoche in a bowl with a tostata laid over the top. The portion of huitlacoche was kind of crazy (way too much for the single tostada it was served with), and I thought it needed more done to it? It tasted like huitlacoche straight out of the can (I'm sure it wasn't, but it needed some additional flavor and spice). The food was a bit of a mixed bag. The service was very good, and the restaurant is stunning. Like the Oaxaca location, Los Danzantes in Coyoacán is in a beautiful building, with stunning character and design. It wasn't the best meal I've had in Mexico City, but it was beautiful and the service was great. I'd definitely return for drinks and its great ambiance and service.

Basket tacos are steamed corn tortilla tacos with simple fillings kept warm and served from a basket. These simple creations serve as quick, cheap and easy lunch options for the day workers. Their simplicity is what makes them so incredible; pure comfort food. We ordered a chicharron and papas taco. It was seriously like 10-15 MXN per taco. Gobbled these up with its ultra tender contents. They have a ton of toppings on the side and even a much revered green sauce to add all the flavors. Otherwise, on their own, they are still quite yummy. Eat standing up and pay when you are done, the honor system in full play here. It definitely beat searching down a sit down restaurant or eating at one of the touristy eateries within the Coyoacan Market.

Always delicious and reliable tacos de canasta in Coyoacan!…read more After watching The Tacos Chronicles on Netflix, my husband got in his head that he wanted to try tacos de canasta. The difficult thing about the tacos de canasta is that they "move" and they are usually not in just "one place", so we were happy to find two guys which sell them every day at the same spot! They are conveniently located two blocks from Frida and Diego's house in Coyoacan and in front of a bodega. We tried their chicharron and bean tacos, and they were delicious! Their salsa verde was the BOMB! Tacos de canasta are very cheap and a few pesos can take you a long way. Please don't try to pay with large bills or credit cards. You pay after you finish eating, because you can always order more after eating a couple of tacos. PS: This location is not the one from the show, but I am using it as a reference so y'all know which type of tacos I am talking about.
