Update: after a threatening message from the store/owner I felt the need to update this review and please see below for details reference this message.
I brought my bicycle to Capwell Cycles for a service. Firstly when I paid, they overcharged me €40 which I noticed and had to ask to be refunded. Three weeks post service my bicycle started making a rattling noise, so I took it to two other reputable shops in Cork to get their opinion. Both within seconds identified that the chain needed replacing and both said it needs to be serviced as various parts such as the cassette, bottom bracket and cables were worn and needed replacing and clearly this would all be identified on a service.
I visited Capwell Cycles to question them about what I had a actually paid for when I requested my bike to be serviced. What I expected from a service is for the items to be oiled, tightened and pumped up, along with advice about any parts that are worn or need replacing. At the very least, this latter part did not happen and leaves me to question what I'd actually paid for and whether they're competent enough to run a bike servicing shop.
When I approached the staff they instantly became defensive, said they were insulted that I'd question their ability when they've been doing this for 15 years. They were not interested in a single thing I had to say and neither did they give me chance to give any input. The only option I had was to start shouting as this is the approach they took to the complaint but to save embarrassment for all of us I left the store and the only option was for me share my experience and opinion of this company in an open online review.
To sum up:
1. They charged for a service but did not identify any parts that needed replacing. (If you took your car for a service and the brakes needed raplacing 3 weeks later, I think most people would dispute this and question what they'd actually been charged for and what was actually done).
2. They had no interest in listening to a customer concern/complaint and only telling me what they wanted me to hear without giving any time to listen to my concerns.
3. After updating a grammatical error update on the review, I received two messages from the store and one of these messages was of a threatening nature telling me that if I continued to mess with them, see where it gets me. This message was later deleted but I have a copy of it saved and is freely available if anyone wishes to view it. The again messaged me a third time with a patronising message.
4. They keep telling me that I received all that I paid for, but in my opinion they didn't fulfill the obligations of carrying out a service by informing me of items that were worn and due to be replaced.
The good reviews they do have and the ones they keep mentioning about in replies to negative reviews are from customers who I assume just wanted a bit of air in their tires and their chains greasing. I would not trust this company with anything beyond this and would advise everyone to take your bike somewhere more reputable.
These people are of bad character and are not trust worthy. read more
