We went to the company theater to watch the production Abbamania, a long running ABBA tribute show,…read moreperforming since 1999. The band was made up off of three guitarist, a keyboard player, a drummer (who happened to be a female, which was very cool because I don't see a lot of them), and two female lead singers. By and large, all the members of the band were baby boomers with the exception of the drummer who seemed to be maybe in her early 30s. The two female singers dance through most of the performance and the dancing left something to be desired. This doesn't matter because the performance overall is a singing performance, and the vocalist were excellent. The music of course was a total throwback to the amazing band ABBA. I enjoyed it immensely. The singers had lots of electric stage presence, great personalities, and talent. Other than the lackluster dancing parentheses (I didn't expect stellar dancing anyway!) the only negative comment I can make is that we got aisle seats next to each other. People sitting in the rows further in arrived later than we did so we had to get up to let them through. Later on in the performance, several of these people decided to get up and dance down in front of the stage so we had to get up again. After they dance, they came back to their seats and got their pocket books and then went out to the concession stand so we had to get up again. Afterwards, of course we had to let them back to their seats for the rest of the performance. Flipping pain in the neck, but this was not the fault of the performance or the theater. I highly recommend that you see this performance if you are able to! Just be sure to get seats next to the wall, the furthest in.

My most recent play was Misery and all I can say is WOW! they did an amazing job working with a small set to create a story that delivered a fantastic performance. It is a small theater but there are no bad seat in the house. They also have special offers for tickets that can make the experience more affordable. The variety of plays include many multicultural plays or including multicultural cast members. I applaud their commitment to diversity. Staff is super friendly and accommodating. Parking can be street parking or you can park at the church lot next door during performance nights.

We both love theater and met doing improv with the UMASS Amherst group Mission: IMPROVable. We were delighted to learn of a theater within walking distance to our new house and bought tickets to see the show. The production was well-paced and hilarious, and we were impressed with the welcoming atmosphere. I became involved with the theater almost immediately, appearing in the 2003 New Works Festival and working backstage for their production of "True West." My husband was also in a production that spring. We have remained involved with Acme ever since. We have both been given the opportunity to expand our skills (him: directing, me: stage managing and producing) and count our Acme "family" as among our closest friends. I can't imagine life in Maynard with Acme Theater.

I went to see The Lion King and it was fabulous! The theater is small enough to capture the details without binoculars or an additional screen. The music was captivating. The colors were vivid. The storyline was familiar, and the characters were great. I would absolutely go back to PPAC to watch this play, and looking forward to other plays coming later this year and next year.

I was excited to see that the Lion King was playing at the Providence Performing Arts Center! The theater is very easy to get to and there is a ton of parking nearby. Admissions was swift and not crowded - they definitely are organized and know how to keep the traffic moving. They sell various snacks and some are even locally made like the popcorn I bought. The venue itself is beautiful, especially the theater. The seats are as you would expect - velvety and small. The sound and lights were great. I really enjoyed the show. I will say that at times, I felt distracted - it seemed like the audience was louder than I expected - especially with the snack bags. Oh well, what can you do At intermission the women's bathroom was a little bit of a you know what. But this seems to be a common problem with older theaters. Regardless, I had a great time and would def come back to see another show!

GLP is truly everything that is wonderful about community theater…read more The material I have had the privilege of seeing performed has ranged from Shakespeare (Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet) to musicals (Urinetown) to contemporary drama (Rabbit Hole). I've found every production to be exemplary. This is a group with limited technical resources, as compared to some larger and older theatres in the area. (Their performance space is the Parish Hall of the First Church in Marlborough, which has understandably limited infrastructure for hanging lighting instruments, backdrops, sound equipment, et cetera.) However, they have very much made this limitation into a strength, focusing on the actors' craft to create performances that are deeply captivating - perhaps even more so for the minimalism of the sets and lighting. The ticket prices (usually $15 for general admission, $12 for seniors) are more reasonable than some of the other (again, older and larger) community theaters in the area.

It was built in the 1920s, and the character still oozes from the building. They've made some renovations, but have kept it mostly original which I appreciate. The actual chairs are still everywhere expect for the orchestra seating, and they are sooo comfy. Trivia question: The seats have a wire rack underneath, what was it used for back in the day? Shout out to one of the ushers for this fun question. (I won't spoil the answer). Now, because it is historic, there are some things it doesn't have. One being no screens like at most concert venues. This wasn't too big a deal since the hall is not huge, but something to point out. Also can't bring food or drink inside the space to protect its historic value, which didn't bother me to be honest. This hall is also nice because due to the size, there really isn't a bad seat in the house. The side balconies aren't head on with the stage but it didn't seem to be an issue. I sat in the loge and for being furthest away, I had a clear view. They also had a cash bar in the foyer with drinks and snacks. I liked this venue because it was a quaint space, and it felt like I was going to a live theater, rather than a huge concert. It's classy and makes for a fun night out. I would love to come back and see the Lexington Symphony play here.
