One of the better Captain D's that I've been to. Food was great. Building was old and dirty.

Nasty food and horrible service. Workers were to worried about laughing and talking than to help you.

BBQ is a gem of the American countryside dining. Partially, because the only other alternative is…read moretypically fast food. But, that would not be a fair description of this tradition: BBQ is an incredible style of cooking and spots like this represent this tradition well. BBQ 65 is conveniently located right off the interstate in a gas station in a saloon like building that has a beautiful character from the outside. Open since 2010s, this spot has started to earn its place in the BBQ world, albeit being newer to it. There is an indoor seating inside near the gas station shop aisles. The ribs are cooked well with a nice wood profile, but neither very delicate nor particularly notable for their flavor of the meat itself, with smoke notes dominating. The quality of pork itself and the slightly tougher preparation could be better to rival Alabama's best. The BBQ sauce is loaded up with vinegar, completely overpowering the meat if consumed together, although to be fair, this may be a matter of preference for some BBQ lovers. The star of the show is potato salad which was perfectly balanced on its acidity, sweetness and overall flavor. As a whole, BBQ 65 is a pleasant stop to experience some traditional southern cooking and support a local business instead of tossing money into another "by the exit" fast food chain.

Yelp's driving directions wrongly told us to turn west from I-65 to get here. Actually, this…read morerestaurant is just EAST of I-65. The restaurant was closed today (a Friday), for some reason anyway.

One word: YUMMY!!…read more Had the oysters sampler, hush puppy's and the crab claw 50/50 basket. Everything was so tasty and perfectly seasoned!! The service was nice, we had jasmine and she was on top of things. The restaurant stayed busy but the turnover was quick. It was a very chill vibe inside the restaurant.

So disappointed - had great expectations after having visited the Wintzell's down on the coast…read more Had 5:30pm reservations. Got there at 5:25pm and there were at least 15 people at the hostess stand. Hostess seemed lost....would struggle to get the ext person seated and didn't ask if anyone had reservations until about 5:40pm. When she did about 12 people raised their hands....we all had 5:30pm ones. Got seated around 5:45pm; waitress was prompt and friendly - she was the only highlight. Got our appetizer with our dinner that came out at three different moments about 10min apart. We didn't get our food until about 6:45pm....horribly long wait. Good was not very good; certainly not worth what we paid. My chicken bienville was tasteless and the chicken tough and chewy. The side of fried okra and sweet potato fries were good though! His and had a shrimp poboy with rock hard bread and what looked like frozen shrimp heated up. Definitely will not be back; there are too many other places in downtown Montgomery to try!
