Via Rail's Capreol (Greater Sudbury) station was one of our Day 1 stops on the Canadian Train from Toronto to Vancouver. We enjoyed our short stop, which included the opportunity to take a quick walk into town as we stretched our legs and chat with other passengers (particularly the ones not smoking). We joked that we should have called ahead for Chinese takeout from a restaurant in town before the train arrived.
Gayle and I also took an opportunity to observe the architecture of the train station which was constructed in 1915 by the Canadian Northern Railway (later Canadian National or CN). In many ways, Capreol was an is a CN rail town. And unfortunately, we didn't have the opportunity to visit the nearby Northern Ontario Railroad Museum. read more
