Veggie Pizza with black olives and banana peppers, no cheese.
    Kathy D.

Backstory...I have been visiting Capogna's (the Dugout) since they opened in 1973. I grew up eating Antipasta Salad and Pepperoni Pizza EVERY Friday night for over a decade with my family. We have history! But - it's been a hot minute since we were there. We held an 85th birthday dinner here on a weekend night for my mom. It was pretty early in the evening (late afternoon), so no issues getting a large table. We sat on the bar side, so just a few seemingly regulars at the bar, and not a lot of tables taken up. Early on, we tried ordering a few drinks, and our server just kept saying, "We aren't that fancy," when they didn't have what we requested (so, no drink menu, no Mojitos cause they don't have mint, etc). The birthday girl ordered Sangria, and we think it was premade bottled stuff, cause she didn't like it so it went to waste. Basic options for beers, with nothing really special on tap (but a lot of options). Among the items we ordered were the Fried Mushrooms. Once upon a time, they had the most delish coating and were amazing. They must have changed how they do/order them, cause these were standard bar food mushrooms, admittedly super crispy, but the mushroom inside was tiny, wet, and mushy. They used to serve them with a fabulous horseradish sauce that set the taste off, but I digress. Now, it was served with a bland, generic ranch dressing that did nothing for itself or the mushrooms. :( As a plant based eater, I ordered a Veggie Pizza, add black olives and banana peppers (thank goodness, or there would have been a lack of veggies OR flavor), no cheese. The crust was crispy, had a nice flavor, and was a great vehicle to get the veggies to my mouth. Again, it would have been light on toppings without my additions. Daughter had a pepperoni with olives and mushroom pizza. She said the cheese did not taste very good, was lacking flavor, and the mushrooms were canned. The crust was crispy and good, and the pepperoni was good. She brought half home but did not eat it as the cheese didn't taste very good. Hubby ordered a Greek Salad. It was "ok". Nothing special. We did appreciate the server bringing out our homemade cake for the birthday girl. All in all, Capagna's is not the same place I grew up with, which is a shame. Not sure if they are cutting costs by reducing quality, but we def aren't regulars any more.

A few items off the menu today that were great. First up we had onion rings that were fabulous. Crispy to the taste wonderful next. We had some great chicken wings again crispy with a mild hot sauce with extra hot on the side the wing, especially good. next step was the Pizza, which was amazing. I recommend you add some sausage in there to add a little extra flavor Pepperoni kind of finished pizza. Ask for Tommy he provided outstanding service. The vibe of the place cause I know everyone asks about the vibe the vibe. This is a local place. Don't come in here asking for the wine menu or asking for a Moscow Mule this isn't that place this is a place to come and hang out with some local people and enjoy some great food. If you can do that then this is a place for you

I stopped at this Clearwater staple last week to see a buddy of mine for lunch. My friend told me this place has been around forever, and was one of his go-to places. It has a really cool sports bar fuel and even has carpet all the way around. Blackened Fish Sandwich: 9.4 Scale system 10/10 would be what I want for my last meal 9.9-9.3 driving out of my way to get this 9.2-8.0 like the place and would go back 7.9-7.0 I would come here again if it were presented and don't have anything bad to say 6.9 and below - thanks but no thanks after try one

Stuffed shells paired with spaghetti? I've never seen that before...

Since they have been around since 1973, I've really been wanting to try this place. My take-out order was $36 with tip. The food was not bad, but it was not great or very memorable either. The 3 stuffed shells were decent. They came along with spaghetti and marinara sauce, which is a very unusual pairing to me. The sauce was boring and tasted like a bargain commercial brand from a jar. Their 14 inch "Dugout Specialty Pizza" looked promising with a generous amount of toppings. Unfortunately, the sauce was sparse and also bland, and the crust was a bit more thick and "bready" than I prefer. After 49 years in business, they must be doing something right. I am a bit of a pizza snob and for me, Capogna's struck out at bat...

Small sausage pizza, thin crust, crispy.

I was craving pizza and this place was nearby, so I thought I'd give them a shot. I sat at the bar. Tommy quickly greeted me. I ordered a small sausage pizza, thin crust, crispy. I would have preferred mushrooms, but they used the canned ones, which is a no-go for me. I was surprised at how much sausage they put on...a lot! It was tasty, the crust was very crispy and the bottom was somewhat crispy. I think if I just had a cheese pizza it would have been crisper. I would have liked a little more sauce, but the pizza was still good, just not outstanding.

    Spaghetti & eggplant Parmesan

Capogna's has obviously been around for a very long time. As soon as you walk in, it is like being whisked into a restaurant from the 1970s. I'm guessing Clearwater High students that are now senior citizens would find that this place hasn't changed one bit in 4 or 5 decades. It's dated, but I'm sure that is the allure for many. For lunch I ordered an eggplant Parmesan dish for $7.99. It came with a side of spaghetti. The eggplant parm was extremely basic, & the spaghetti & sauce reminded me of high school cafeteria food. I think Capogna's gets points for longevity, being an institution, & being invested in the community. The food is very basic but certainly not bad.

    Veggie pizza with jalapeño added.

Used to go here in the '80s & it's still as good as it was back then. We had pizza & wings...both good. Friendly service at the bar. Clean. Locals favorite. Great for large groups.

Laina was absolutely superb! Really busy, but kept her calm. She's the best! So glad Capogna's is open again!

I had a hearty pizza - crust was old style NY and loaded with toppings - pretty decent pizza. Sat at the bar and Tommy took care of me.

I was surprised how far back the restaurant went; it was much bigger than it looks from the front and pictures I'd seen. We went to watch a night game. The bar was full, but there were still tables in the bar area. We sat in the second section/ room, and got the cheese curds and fried pickles, as well as some beers. All were reasonably priced. Our waitress provided great service, and there were plenty of seats to watch the game.

It was like a little hidden gem as it was in an off the beat shopping center and doesn't have a fancy outside which is usually a good sign. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive. She came over Multiple times to check on us and refill t drink. I thought about the wings but wanted a burger. Ended up getting a double burger which cheddar, American and bacon. All their burgers are named after baseball teams and this was the Rockie. I expected 2 small patties but they were huge. Charbroiled perfectly and so good. They also come with crinkle fries. Also ordered a sundae which delicious. They have drink specials for those who are drinkers. Definitely will come back next time I'm down in the area
