Although we have been customers of Capital Macintosh on Michigan Ave. in Lansing for many years (like 4), it was when there were other (former) owners and it felt like going into a splendid Apple-loving slightly disheveled workshop of folks who knew and adored all things Apple like we do (since 1995). But sadly, since the new owner, Amara, took over last year (?), things have gone from Mac-tech-grunge-atelier to boutique-of-over-promises and complaints. If they want to rival the actual Apple Store in E. Lansing -- then provide better service, be nicer, don't scold and over-explain and make excuses. Have better products. Be cooler, friendlier, and just better neighbors. They act like they are doing you a favor in taking in your machine or peripherals to be fixed.... not a good feel. And an even worse business model. They are pricey, snobby, know-it-alls who do not deliver on repairs or hardware. Came to Capitol MacIntosh on two occasions, both times I have been impressed by their service. They are truly committed to great customer care. One time I came in for a cracked iPhone display with AppleCare and they were able to fix the display with same-day service. The other time I came in with my older MacBook, that Apple could not affordably support. Capitol Mac was able to find me an affordable alternative and got my Mac working again! Hard drive failed on my 2014 imac. Took it to Capital McIntosh and they tried to retrieve my data but ultimately couldnt. A new 1T flash drive was installed for a very reasonable price and they updated my RAM. Super fast and friendly customer service and reasonable prices. Disappointed my HDD was unrepairable, but very happy with upgraded machine going forward. read more

I remember when this place was Eubulus Computers a long time ago. I was just traveling through Lansing, visiting family when the keyboard on my trusty MacBook Pro took a hike. I took it to the Apple store and they told me that it was "just" old enough that they couldn't help me... sigh... Dave Smith, the owner was awesome! He not only gave my daughter's laptop a RAM boost, but he ordered a new top case and keyboard for my MacBook Pro, fixed it faster than I expected and shipped it to me, so it will meet me when I get home. I am beyond impressed with Capitol Macintosh. I brought my 4 y.o Mac in because it was not turning on. After assessing my situation, they took my computer and said that if everything went well then I could pick up my computer tomorrow. To my surprise they had it ready 4 hours later and I am so so happy. The issue with my computer was so small but they were able to get to the root of the problem and get it done quick and well. As a college student my computer is my life, and I could not be more impressed with the service I received. He explained to me it was cost nearly $100 to see what the problem is. Me knowing the problem, I will not spend $100 for that. Abismal service. I've gone in there twice for Apple Care work (once for a hard drive failure and once for an issue with the feet on the bottom of the case) both times the staff have been extremely unhelpful, telling me both times that I would need to cover the costs, even though I was still covered under Apple Care in both instances. The first time they printed up an invoice stating that I would need to pay a greatly inflated price for a 500GB hard drive (a comparable drive on Newegg was about $100 less) and wanted to charge for service. The second time they told me I would have to order in an entire new bottom case and pay out of pocket, even though Apple was able to send me a replacement kit at no cost the next day. I honestly believe they are living in the PowerPC days, terrified to join the rest of us in the modern era. Case in point: they are trying to sell a circa-2005 PowerMac G5 with modest specs for $550. While the G5 PowerMac remains a wonderful computer, nobody in their right mind would pay that much for one, as a $600 Mac Mini will run circles around that machine in every benchmark. read more

I love these guys! They are a super small shop that repairs Apple computers and sells all Apple products (except phones) in the Lansing and East Lansing area, with 2 technicians and 1 front desk guy. They really know what they are doing and have got personality to boot. Real people. I just had my 2008 Macbook Pro in for service because it was running sooooo slow that I thought I needed a new computer. A few days later the computer was running almost as fast as my wife's 2012 Macbook Pro. Just excellent! I was trained as an electrical engineer, so I can appreciate the work they do from that perspective too. Highly recommended. read more

Hey!1 I just wanted to review the place that caused me extreme happiness and then extreme sadness in the span of 72 hours. I was recommended to go to this store from a "senior advisor"after having had multiple phone calls with "senior advisors" who tried to help me with this very odd problem I was having with my trackpad/keyboad. Oh, I also went into an Apple store as well. The senior advisor on the phone "sent them my case information"and "set me up an appointment" but when I got there, they didn't know what was wrong, so I had to do the honors of explaining it for the 5th time. They said they could fix it and that it would be free unless they had to order parts, in which it would be $95 (even though Apple assured me it would all be free no matter what because I'm under warranty). Skipping ahead to the day it was supposed to be ready, it wasn't, so I had to wait another day. I bused down again to this apple authorized store and was shown my laptop....and a bill of $95. I asked what the cost was for and one worker said "I have to feed my kids somehow"...odd. Because all they did was export my data onto an external hardrive and download the latest iOS software. Claiming they "fixed the problem" impatient me who was eager to leave was still weary to pay this $95 fee, as I was promised by the apple store that I wouldn't have to pay anything. I had to call 1-800-myapple, a number I am far too familiar with now, and be tossed around from senior advisor to senior advisor in hopes of finding someone who would give me what capital macintosh said was called a "customer service code". They told me they're not supposed to tell me what it is but if I ask for one then apple will pay for the costs? ~two hours later~ and I finally landed on the phone with someone who was willing to talk to a worker at capital macintosh, who laughed at the apple worker on the phone and said he's never experienced an apple worker as rude as that man...keep in mind, the man on the phone was saying the same thing about him. This entire situation was really taxing and made me super uneasy. I was already way off campus, and almost late for my class, and the capital macintosh workers were just watching me on the phone (patient and collected, keep in mind) but would not drop the fee. Finally, I was given a customer service code and the fine was waived. I left the store after all of that and was just happy to have my laptop fixed. BUT IT WASN'T FIXED. The second I tried to use it, it was frozen again so basically my laptop being away from me for 3 days and that entire fiasco was for nothing. I ended up having to go to the real apple store and have it shipped to the headquarters for a $467 repair, covered by warranty. So. LONG STORY SHORT I'm never going here again. read more

A great place to get your Macintoshes serviced. I have been dealing with them for years and they always go the extra mile. For example, recently, thanks to the actions of our utility company, my Mac Pro (late 2013) began to act up. I took into them; they repaired it. When I got it home, there were more problems. The repair person, who lived in my neighborhood, called me and offered to pick it up on his way to work. When it was done, he also offered to drop it off. Now that is service!!! read more

I went to Capital Macintosh two days ago. Whenever I tried to play a video on my I-Mac a "blocked plug-in" notification would appear on the screen. When I brought it in he offered to take a look at it. Within ten minutes he had it running fine. No charge. What I didn't tell him is that I had been to Best Buy before that. Waited in line about half an hour there. The "Geek" at the counter tried a couple of things and wanted to try more. I wandered around the store for a half hour and then returned. Her diagnosis was: Computer needed a new operating system, additional memory and cleaning. She told me the old operating system was outdated and would not support the new adobe flash. She recommended I buy the $200 service agreement and the parts cost would be around $350. One of two (perhaps both) things are going on at Best Buy. One, she really didn't know what she was doing. Two, the "Geeks" are encouraged to push unnecessary repairs. Both good reasons to stay away from there. I won't be going there again. Capital Macintosh is my new computer center and I highly recommend to store to everyone. read more

my computer wouldn't turn on whatsoever, so I took it to the apple store in Eastwood. BIG MISTAKE! The guy who came up to me told me that no one could even talk to me for an hour and a half. I told him that I had to work and asked if I could just leave it at the store and they could call me once it was ready or diagnosed, whichever. He said absolutely not, that's not how they do things. I turned around and walked out and drove to Capitol Macintosh. The guy at the front desk took my name and contact information and said that they would give me a call after the holiday weekend (it was the Friday before Labor Day so I knew I would have to wait till at least Tuesday). It was super simple and the guy was really friendly. I then got a call Tuesday saying it was ready to be picked up. I picked it up, it was no charge since it was covered by warranty and the guy was super friendly. Capitol Macintosh is what I would expect from the Apple Store, yet the service I have received at multiple Apple Stores pales in comparison. If you are in need of Apple repairs or products, I would recommend Capitol Macintosh, even if you aren't in the Lansing area. read more
