I'll start off by saying as of 6/22, I still have really bad sensitivity on a crown that was done on my bottom tooth. It was my first time coming to this place cause I needed somewhere affordable and this place was close by and looked good. I met Dr. Doyle and his staff very friendly and nice people. Took some X-rays and examined my cavities I had and knew I was in a crutch to get work done and was able to schedule it and get it done. The procedure was great and went by nice and smooth. After about a week or several days was in dire pain and sensitivity I pushed through it and it got better. But over the course it still hurts today with hot and cold things. Overall I'd recommend coming here for any dental procedure needed just wish they had fluoride free things to use. read more

I've lived in Boise for +20 years, and it has taken this long to find a compassionate, humble, and honest dentist. I've found my "forever dentist" with Capitol Dental and Dr. Doyle. Here's why: About 15 years ago, I had a crown haphazardly placed on a broken tooth by another dentist who no longer practices in town. Just recently, the tooth had begun to cause that toe-curling pain, which is why I visited Capitol Dental in the first place. I was so impressed by the level of service and kindness in my first appointment. Dr. Doyle compassionately told me that my poor tooth would need a root canal, which I was able to push off until my dental benefits renewed in 2022. During my recent root canal appointment, Dr. Doyle patiently sat with me as I panicked about the anesthetizing shots. He took so much care in the procedure. And as we both thought - the tooth was pretty decayed under that old crown. After the root canal procedure, Dr. Doyle told me that I'd need to come in later for another appointment to replace that old crown, and to fix the decay that had developed underneath. They let me advocate for myself: Since I was already numbed up with the shots that I so feared, I asked if I could get the whole shebang done that day. They retooled their afternoon to fit my panic; they got everything done in one setting: Root canal, drilling out the decayed part of my tooth, and fitting a new crown (made onsite that very day) that fits better, looks better, and feels better than I could have imagined. If you are anxious about going to the dentist, stop looking, you're on the right page. Dr. Doyle is THE BEST (he could be a pediatric dentist if he wanted to, his attitude speaks for it). As soon as you meet him, you instantly feel at ease with any nervous feelings you might have had. He has great "bed side manners" and his assistants (Stacey and Whitney) make such a great team. I am so very saddened to write a follow up review of Capitol Dental. I really love Dr. Doyle as a dentist. I think he does great work and he is a wonderful person. However, his front desk staff have left me wishing for the early days when I started going to Capitol Dental. I was in a horrible car accident that injured me enough that I was unable to work. Due to the complications from the severe and complicated concussion that I received, I found myself out of work for an extended period of time. This is the culmination of several years of tough times in my life. Uninsured and injured left me vulnerable when a tooth went south. I needed a root canal. Dr. Doyle was made aware of the difficulty of my situation and that I was in a bad spot both physically and financially. To have the pain on top of it that I did was making an already painful and difficult time worse. I went in and was diagnosed. For Dr. Doyle's part, he was great. He showed his normal caring and warm demeanor. He was sympathetic to the trials that I was facing. Unfortunately, I don't feel his front desk staff were sympathetic to my needs or my situation. I have, for many years now, recommended Dr. Doyle to anyone I came across seeking a new dentist. I fervently recommended him. I left excellent reviews on social media platforms and often commented on people's statuses giving my praise for his service. To be presented with incredibly expensive out-of-pocket options that were impossible under my financial circumstances was disheartening and with my concussed state, made everything in my life seem even more hopeless. The front desk woman, who's name I do not know, offered no options or even sympathetic response. It was simply a several hundred dollar option to pull the tooth or a $2,500+ option to do a root canal and crown to save my tooth. When explaining that I didn't have either amount of money available to me in one lump sum under the circumstance, she responded curtly with, "Well, dental care costs money." I was quite emotional and left Capitol Dental without any care. Dr. Doyle being the great guy that he is, called me the next day to talk since I was unable to get care. It was an emotional conversation as I explained to him the horrible trials that I was facing and the inability physically and mentally due to my injuries of rectifying things without assistance. He was warm and said to call and discuss options to get taken care of. I called to do so. I left messages to have a call back. No one called me back. I did this multiple times and no one cared enough at the front desk to bother calling me back. Under the circumstances of needing to heal and try and put my life back together after the car accident, I gave up trying to contact Capitol Dental. Not only did I feel undervalued as a patient and customer, I feel betrayed by a place that I trusted and cheered on. I feel let down by a provider that I wholeheartedly talked up. I have spent a great deal of my life in philanthropic efforts, helping a wide range of causes through fundraising and in-kind donation. It was a slap in the face to find myself with no options or empathy when the tables were turned on me. His front desk now gives me the impression that they are a fair weather business and I don't know that Dr. Doyle knows what the left hand is doing because he is the right hand, doing what he does best. I have seen angry, defensive responses from the Capitol Dental office when other negative or critical reviews have been posted, so I won't be surprised if this is responded to in angry and inappropriate ways. I am really saddened, truly, to be writing this but the added suffering on top of one of the most life altering things that has happened to me has left me with a heavy heart. I believe that Dr. Doyle's work is worth the money and people deserve to be paid. I wasn't asking for a handout. I wasn't asking for anything to be free. I only wanted options to try and get the care I needed. As someone who works in health care, we always work with our patients. I guess that standard is not important to everyone. Now that I am insured again and life is slowly improving and getting back to a good place, I must be mindful of who supported me and helped me when I was down. I thought Capitol Dental would. I cannot recommend Dr. Doyle for dental implants. He was my primary dentist and when I needed a frontal implant, he assured me he knew all about that process. In fact, the opposite was true. He was incompetent in 4 ways. 1 I asked for 1 valium because I was anxious about the implant procedure. Instead, he prescribed a SLEEPING PILL which totally knocked me sideways. Not only that, the prescription said take 2, which was a huge mistake. I'm surprised I didn't pass out when walking to his office. 2 Dr. Doyle was unable to remove my broken tooth in a professional manner. I just don't think he has the skill set. After shooting me multiple times with Novocain in the roof of my mouth, he ended up taking the tooth out in multiple pieces. I was so stressed that I kept burning through the anesthesia very quickly so was in agony during the entire procedure. What he SHOULD have done was drive me to an oral surgeon who could have sedated me to put me out of my misery. 3 The removal of the tooth left a gaping hole in my front gum. Instead of waiting for this hole to heal, Dr. Doyle just shoved in the dental implant screw and packed the area with bone powder, hoping for the best I guess. 4 And guess what, massive infection 2 weeks later. Another agonizing session in dental chair while listening to the dental assistant cluck, "Oh dear, very unhappy gum. Lots to suction out here!" as if I wasn't even there. Bottom line, I ended up using an oral surgeon to fix the mess that Dr. Doyle left me with. As much as the oral surgeon was reluctant to diss a fellow dentist, he did say (1) the broken tooth should have been removed with a special sectioning tool which obviously Dr. Doyle did not use and (2) instead of inserting the implant screw immediately into hole remaining from the removed tooth, the hole should have been allowed to fully heal. Totally by coincidence, I met a co-worked whose daughter experienced a similar dental disaster as the hands of Capitol Dental. More dental implant nightmares. There is reason why oral surgeons are good at dental implants. It's called FOUR more years of advanced dental school. Dr. Doyle probably took maybe one semester in dental implant procedure (or just went to some continuing ed course at a fancy ski resort). This guy SHOULD NOT be doing dental implants at all. Don't send a boy to do a man's work! read more

From the time I first contacted them to setup an appointment, to walking out the door and finishing my visit, this place was outstanding. Extremely professional, very friendly and great at making clients feel at ease, and very knowledgeable about different treatment options. One thing that impressed me was their efforts in providing personalized care that suits the needs and concerns of each client. They evaluated what I wanted from my dental care and then proceeded to meet those needs and discuss different available options concerning all areas of my dental health. They also went above and beyond by making room in their schedule for a treatment I needed the same day I went in for a check up instead of making me reschedule for another day. I can't even begin to explain how much I love my Dentist, Dr. Doyle. I am a TOUGH case to handle because of how paranoid I am of dentists... he is ALWAYS patient and manages my neuroses very well. The billing staff is always able to work out payment arrangements and have even given me loyalty discounts. The hygentist team is also amazing- I see Diedre but Brandi has also seen me and been wonderful. There couldn't possibly be a more comfortable dentist to go to. After moving to Boise from a small town in Oregon, I was a little nervous about finding a good dentist.I found Capitol Dental through my insurance's website and online reviews, and I'm happy to say I'm still a patient here today! (4 years later) Upon your first exam, they take free xrays (because they're for their own records, not necessarily required), and offer you a free electronic tooth brush or a teeth whitening kit. Pretty cool little incentive. At the start of each appointment, you're offered a paraffin hand wax dip - amazing! Spa treatment while you clean my teeth? Yes please! Everyone I've seen here has been great, including the staff. When I had my first fillings, there was a miscommunication about payment and I was charged more than I expected, but since then everything has been great. I'd have a few fillings and they always do a great job of listening to you about numbness/pain - the doc once waiting nearly 45 minutes for me to numb after needing 2 or 3 injections. I definitely recommend checking out Capitol Dental if you're in the market for some freshly cleaned chompers. :) read more

I have been a long time patient of Capitol Dental and considered myself a loyal patron. I have even sent many referrals their way. They were unreasonable on scheduling efforts for some unforeseen illnesses and navigation through COVID protocols. Then, out of the blue, charged me a cancellation fee. I figured that 20 years of regular appointments must be not as important as their $69 cancellation fee. Hope that $69 lasts a long time. I switched dentists. read more

I am truly saddened to have to come to this point but I was a loyal client with this company for 7/8 years and loved their service until this year. 6 years ago I received a root canal from Dr. Doyle and was satisfied with my results. This year in August my cap on that tooth had partially broke. I immediately made an appointment with Capitol Dental and talked with Doyle about possible plans to fix it. He was very short and kind of 'snappy' with me and said he will not fix the cap and attempted to charge me in full for the cap. My insurance will not cover this procedure because of how new the cap is. My insurance was shocked to hear the dentist was unwilling to fix this problem himself especially because he molds his own crowns inside the office. They stated that most dentists would be taking care of this issue themselves. Upon hearing this I got a second and third opinion by two other dentists. They both were shocked to hear Doyle's unwillingness to fix my tooth and even said the break is obviously a manufactured issue, meaning the bite wasn't correct so it was a matter of time for this to happen and nothing I would have done could have prevented this. After gathering this news I was also told I have multiple cavities that have been there for months/years. I have been seeing this place for years and they've neglected to properly alert me of any issues regarding cavities. I even kept asking about this one spot on my tooth and in early 2018, they told me not to worry when in fact its a cavity that was ignored. I am so disheartened by this treatment from them that i stopped seeing this business. I hope others do not ever have to deal with or confront this issue like I did read more

Dr. Doyle is a great dentist but their conflict resolution needs work.

One of the worst dental experiences of my life. Dr Doyle has a lovely office and excellent staff. He was very nice and had a warm personality...until I had an unexpected degree of pain after oral surgery. He was rude and "marched out of the office" (twice) when I politely and gently argued that I needed more prescription pain medication than he was giving me. (I say twice because this was a multi-visit procedure.) My experience is that you are not really a partner in your care when it comes to pain control- he will not listen and work with you, taking your feedback into account and he gets very annoyed if you disagree with him. He did not do the oral surgery himself- an *excellent* staff member did the surgery. But Dr. Doyle would not allow the dentist who worked on me to make decisions about my medication. It was so obvious I was in terrible pain and not "faking it" to "get drugs". He just plain doesn't like to prescribe pain medication. He will prescribe some, but heaven help you if you have an unexpected degree of pain. He instructed me to take extremely high doses (MUCH more than the dosage on the bottle) of over the counter medications. Trustingly, I took it. He *forgot to tell me* that I had to eat something substantial with the mega-doses of ibuprofen to protect my stomach, so, on top of everything else and all the pain, I was vomiting. I thought I was vomiting from pain and apparently so did he because he never thought to ask me over the course of the many days I was taking all this ibuprofen whether I was taking it together with solid food. I went through about 5 days of the most extreme pain and constant anxiety about how much of the prescription medication I had left and how I was going to make it through and parse it out. Several nights I couldn't sleep, was vomiting and was just pacing to endure the pain. He may reply to this and try to discredit me. I am telling the truth; there we no extenuating circumstances. If you fill in the feedback form that his office sends out after treatment to collect their own patient reviews and you say anything negative, the office will call you, get upset and try to get you to change your review. read more

I just moved to Boise back in August. I have bad luck with my teeth and I'm paying for mistakes I've made 16+ years ago. Dealing with tooth pain really blows and I'm the type of person that waits till the last minute to get dental work taken care of. And it's usually because I'm in serious pain and can't sleep at night. I bit the bullet (no pun intended) and told myself to just freakin' go already! I google'd for dental firm reviews in Boise and discovered tons of negative results. I see Capitol Dental on here with one good review, so I decided to give it a shot. Let me first just say that it truly amazed me how well this staff understood and sympathized with me. Lots of people in any kind of service industry can be cranky, or simply not on the same page with their coworkers. This place ran like clockwork and everyone there worked as a team to take care of my excruciating pains. I downloaded the patient paperwork from their website first just to expedite the process a bit. I was happy to see a form that allowed me to select what my priorities were. Such as Comfort, Cosmetics, and even how you prefer to be addressed when learning about the issues with your teeth. This certainly made for a scientifically proven ultra-positive dental experience. Not only was my procedure a comforting success, but I even received a follow-up call from Dr. Doyle that evening with care-tips and he just genuinely wanted to know how I was feeling. Other firms may charge less for the same kind of services that Capitol Dental offers, but you will certainly not find find any match for their teamwork, superior customer service and contemporary state of the art facilities. (listen to whatever music you want while in a state of bliss despite having a tooth being ripped out). I look forward to trying to get it right this time with regular dental maintenance. I think I've finally found a place that makes it mentally easier for me now. Recommended! read more

I have always been one of those people who have gone dentist to dentist, dissatisfied with each one. I am that person no longer! I came here for a root canal and the service was fantastic. They talked it all out with me and made sure they answered all my questions. Very polite. I really don't like needles and when I've told dentists this in the past, it didn't seem to change much. I have absolutely nothing good to say about Capitol Dentists in Boise. I went in for a free consultation and was talked into a $700 consultation for impressions and X-rays. Went back to review these results. Dr. Doyle told me the exact same things he said upon the initial consultation prior to the impressions-x-rays. I gave them $700 of my money and received nothing - absolutely nothing was done to my teeth. Then he wanted another another $700 for more impressions and a night guard. I asked if he could use the impressions or part of the first $700 for these and he said no. He did not listen to my needs and tried to sell me additional non-desired services. I said I was going to get another opinion and asked for my x-rays/impressions. He refused. The whole experience reminded me of a bad experience with a used car dealer. As evidence of how bad this experience was for me, I have NEVER written an online review. This is my first. I wish there was a zero rating If you are considering this dentist - don't. One of the reasons (even though I've been too chicken to come in for a few years) that I recommend Capitol Dental to people looking for a dental group is the overall experience. The moment you walk through the door it's a comforting vibe. Warm decor (I love the fireplace!), a great attitude from staff and an obvious CHOICE on their part to go above and beyond. Services are technology forward, with the most up to date equipment, and the providers are obviously on the ball in terms of education and technique. Most importantly to me, is that I am listened to. My shared experiences, questions and 'wants' in terms of the way I am cared for are taken in and valued by the staff in creating a plan for MY dental care.
