We moved into our new house in November and had Capital Home Improvement strip, repair, and replaced our roof with with a new Owens Corning shingles before the winter. We were very happy with everything. Last month, we noticed a few roofing nails in our mulch while gardening and called the owner Paul. He had two people come over the next day and walked the entire perimeter of the house and made sure they picked up anything that was missed. (I read some of these reviews and it sounds like these people are the type who get angry and freak out) Paul Stopped over to make sure we were happy and to apologize for the missed nails. We weren't upset, because they must have put thousands of nails in our roof and we only found a few. That said, I recently build a large shed on the side of our house and was working on finishing it up. Paul offered to install the roofing shingles, water barrier and metal edging at no charge for the inconvenience. I'd already priced it out for just the materials and it was about $400 for materials alone and with labor, probably around $900 for the 12' x 12' shed roof. I told him that it was a really nice gesture, but I would have to decline because the town permit was for ME to build the shed, not to mention that it was too generous for just a few nails that they immediately took care of. When I got home the next day from work, there was a pile of the same Owens Corning black shingles, the water barrier materials, an the aluminum trim with a note that read: "We appreciate your business, good luck with finishing your shed! Sincerely, Paul" We had a great experience and when I read through the trashing of this company and this guy, I find it hard to believe, but again, maybe they did have issues, but no one is perfect and it's house you finish that matters for me. To me, it matters how you resolve issues and problems that make the difference. It's also a really tough time for companies to find employees and I can't imagine that the guys that picks up the nails is making anywhere near the roofers and the carpenters that are doing the skilled work on the house. The owner of Capital Home Improvements Paul Conklin met with us August 3rd 2024 about a large project on our house. The work began promptly on August 5th. The work included, new roof, siding, windows, gutters, garage door, sliding glass door, adding a covered porch, sidewalk and concrete removal, basement waterproofing and attic insulation. Paul has received multiple checks from us totaling $65,000. To date (October 11th 2024) only the roof is done. The siding is incomplete and poorly done, not one window is finished. Empty "Twisted Tea" bottles were found throw around with the rest of the junk in our yard. Nobody in our family drinks so I wonder where they came from? Our yard is trashed with garbage and it's tore up. Slowly the workers stopped showing up and Paul removed the Capital Home Improvements sign from our yard. Paul didn't respond to calls or texts asking to meet. Only one day in the past 3 weeks has anybody showed up to work. This was because there was a bay window sitting in our driveway not installed. It was installed, but like the rest of the windows not completed. Two and a half months and $65,000 invested and this is what we get from Paul Conklin and Capital Home Improvements. We have contacted the attorney general, BBB and our personal attorney. Our house has been ruined, windows are not sealed and winter is approaching. I have been acquainted with Mr. Cocklin for many years and engaged his company for home renovations, including two attic bedrooms, a new shower, a complete kitchen overhaul, and the installation of a backdoor off my kitchen that had been there previously. He assured me that the $50,000 payment would cover the pantry as well. However, all initiated work remains unfinished. They recently returned to redo some work on the back porch and stairs, but severely botched the drywall in the attic and left tools scattered throughout my house. The only satisfactory work was the electrical. Last night, as my daughter showered, the dining room ceiling began leaking in three places. We are extremely dissatisfied with the work performed on our home. The renovations were intended to accommodate my 81-year-old mother-in-law, but she is now confined to a small room with no heating. This situation has spoiled our holiday celebrations, as we are without a kitchen. I advise against hiring this company. read more

I hired capital home improvement to do roof, basement work, basement windows and siding. Basement work was very good however after 2 months I had siding falling off, I had to call over and over to try to get it fixed. They came a few times to fix pieces then I just gave up. Have to replace more siding due to a fire and went with another company. FYI, the owner asks people to give 5 star reviews so just be aware!!! read more

I needed a new roof so I contacted CapitalHome Improvements. To make a long story short, I hired them, & gave them a check for work that was supposed to start about a week after. It didn't. Paul came up with at least 4 different excuses over the next 2 weeks. The work started, but was extended by the fact that Capital was working on other projects. The work that was done on my house was to my satisfaction, but they didn't complete the job. I was asked for an additional $500 at the end of the job for them to "complete" the flashing around the chimney. At the end of the job, it looked OK to me from the ground. I went up on my roof after the new one was on about a month to take down a loose shingle that the roofers left there. To my astonishment, my gutters were filled with broken pieces of shingle, water bottles, nails, and pushed in gutter guards. Cleanup was supposed to be included in the price. While the quality (time will tell) of the work performed was to my liking, all other aspects of dealing with Capital were awful; the poorest communication, I had to tell Paul my address at least 5 different times, nails and debris left in my gutters, and the worst...you just didn't know if they were even going to show up on a day when they were supposed to. Do not use this company. The owner Paul is a salesman, and will promise you what a great job his crew will do. Was promised a cleanup when they were done.I believe they used poor quality materials the crew was haphazard and showed no organization I spent lot of time picking up after them the main roof seems to be ok not sure how well it will be this winter the attached garage roof is a complete mess they did not install the rolled roofing material properly they did not remove the old material properly and did not install the new roofing properly at the seams now water gets underneath and is leaking inside my once dry garage they didn't seem to have workers that had any idea of how to do the job I'm paying a heavy price for their mistakes I'm going to have to pay another roofing company to redo the mess that is on my garage it will cost me thousands to fix He cried about how he needed the job and his crew was excellent and he was giving me a great price on the job bottom line do not fall for his line of scrap it will cost you in the long run read more

Hired Paul Conklin with Capital Home Improvements to remove my 82 year old Mother's concrete steps and rebuild new wood steps. Gave him $2500.00 down to start the job. He promised he would be able to start the following week. Well here we go! The week he was to start went by and so did the next week. I kept calling and he finally started on the third week. When he arrived he did not have a trailer to haul away the concrete, wanted to know if I knew someone that had one. He had two guys with a sledge hammer doing the job. He only took half of the stairs out and and told me he would build the new ones over the remaining. That is when I told him that wasnt the agreement and he started to yell at me and said he would give me my deposit back and then I agreed. He said he would call me later to discuss, that is when Paul started not answering his phone. He however would text and just keep promising he would get the job done. At that point I knew this was not going to end well. He would send guys to finish this job on several occassions and he also showed up once and promised this would be done today. It took many trips back in forth which did not happen in the same week. If he had a jack hammer this could of been done in one day. To make a long story short I had to hire someone to finish the job, which cost me another $750.00 to remove the remaining concrete. How come there isn't a zero star choice for ratings? Do NOT, under any circumstances, hire this company. I will attempt to keep a long story short and balance my seething rage in order to prevent others from making the same mistake I did. Our roof had no leaks, but it was nearing the end of life and so we signed a contract with Paul Sept 1, 2020. We had had 3 estimates, and Capital Home was the cheapest. They were supposed to start work Sept 15 of the same year. As soon as we signed the contract, the flood of lies from that worthless scumbag Paul's mouth began. He stopped returning calls, yet would call on a Friday at 4:30 stating that he wanted half the money down (not what the contract said) and would be out first thing Monday morning to begin. I have access to the weather forecast too and noticed that he only promised to start on Monday mornings when snow/wind/rain was forecast. Phone tag continued, they never showed in September or October. They did put a giant dumpster in my driveway the last two weeks of October and showed up finally to work in November. Except for all the days they didn't. The job took forever, the dumpster stayed even longer, and they continued not to return calls. Several months later when the snow started, the leaks started. At first I reached out to Paul to come do repairs, and then I realized they weren't going to call back because there's nothing in it for them. But I admit even though I am a nice person, a part of me was hoping Paul himself would come do repairs because that drunk snake will eventually fall off a roof to his death. So I called a real roofer and here's where the story gets worse. The only piece of paper Paul provided to me that was NOT fraudulent (Hint: he is NOT licensed, bonded and insured, even though he will provide photocopies that suggest he is) was the warranty from Corning, the products they allegedly use. The new REAL roofers were out today. They showed me pictures from up on the roof where Paul's team cut corners. Their sloppiness was extensive and evident, even to the unskilled layman (me) looking at the pictures. Didn't seal shit, didn't do any of the edging right, didn't remove damaged plywood, and, best of all, didn't use the Corning products throughout as promised. The only good news is the warranty by the reputable Corning company is still valid and will cover the repairs - in this case an entirely new roof - for free. Although I am not personally joining in any of the lawsuits against this company, I hope that I can help others not sign up and push this company out of business as they deserve. Paul deserves to lose everything, right down to his empty bottle collection. Don't even let these people near your property. I have learned that recently Corning pulled permissions for this company to use their product, meaning the next homeowners who hire them will NOT be protected as I am. I highly recommend Top Tier Roofing, who is doing my repairs next month. I can also recommend Graves Brothers and the Roofing Guys for remaining totally professional and helpful in every interaction. Really bad service. I had my roof leaking 3 months ago, I called them. The Owner of company came and evaluated and told me that skylight need to be replaced, other option he gave was to remove skylight and patch the area. He said that he will prefer option 2. I hired him for job and he charged me 2000 Dollars. He told me that it will be one year warranty. After 3 months of it , roof started leaking again, I called them, after several calls they came and evaluated and told me it is leaking from another spot and it will cost 3300$. I called few other roofing services and they came and everyone said that it is the bad job that was done by capital home. They did not finish it properly and it is leaking from same point. Super Slobs! After cresting a hill in my neighborhood yesterday I come across a work truck and trailer on one side of the road and another truck directly across from that truck. Right smack in the middle was a giant puddle of fresh white paint between them. By the time I reached it my tires had already gone thru the paint and sprayed all over the side of my black SUV. Not one employee was around to tell people to be careful that they had spilled wet paint. Not one employee was there cleaning up the mess and there was no one around. Looks like they had a similar issues with many homeowners. I talked with them about them not finishing alot of the work they started. firstoff we contacted the company owner PAUL CONKLIN and his forman glen to contract a job as they seemed very decent. We spent alot of time to get the details of the contract ironed out. they promised we could easily come to terms. after a while they said they had serious staffing issues since someone walked off a roof job. they had excuse after excuse. literally this company reminded us of many similar situations of fraudulent scam companies such as the show "american greed". TURNS OUT PAUL CONKLIN HAS BEEN TURNED INTO THE DISTRICT ATTORNEYS OFFICE TO STOP WORK AS ONGOING INVESTIGATIONS HAVE BEEN GOING ON AS HE CREATED MULTIPLE COMPANIES TO KEEP COVERING HIS TRACKS. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! We had a roof put on in 2016, during the remodel of our house, we misplaced the warranty. I called the office for four straight months and I always received the same answer "the person you need to speak to is not in the office right now", I would leave my name and number and never get a call back. Finally I called and stated my displeasure and how I have already left messages for four months and that I would just stop in the office instead. Well, I got a call back from Paul Conklin who is EXTREMELY RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL! He first asked me why I needed a copy of my warranty and wanted to know what was wrong with the roof. I said nothing, I just want a copy of the warranty as a precaution. He then told me since I lost the warranty it was no longer valid, then said look on the bottom of the warranty for the phone number and call it for a copy (which made absolutely no sense because I wouldn't need a copy of the warranty if I was holding one in my hand with the phone number) and then told me he didn't have time for this and hung up. My husband then called and the same thing happened, ending with Paul hanging up. I hope nothing ever happens to my roof because I do not foresee the company holding true to the 50 year warranty. I hired Capital Home Improvements to fix a leak in my roof that caused water damage all the way down to the first floor between the kitchen and dining room. I chose them because their average star rating (out of 5) was 4.3 on google with over 40 reviews in total. After further investigation, it seems some of the reviews must either be from family/friends or just completely fabricated. Yelp seems to paint a more accurate picture. Nonetheless, this being an emergency repair necessary to be fixed as soon as possible, I trusted the stars instead of investigating further. Once they came and assessed my situation, I foolishly signed a contract that didn't specify exact price, so I was charged more than $1,500 more than what was originally discussed. Unfortunately that's not the least of the issues. I cut the final payment check on the third day they were working on my house- the day the work was supposed to be completed. Since then, I have tried repeatedly to get someone over to finish the work, but they either say they're coming and never show up with no call to tell us they can't make it, or they are unreachable to reschedule for umpteenth time until well after when they said they'd be here to finish the work. Now, I'm left with a half-done (that's generous) job and bunch of their equipment in my house- of course there's no cleaning up if the job hasn't even been completed. My most recent attempts to contact Paul Conklin, the owner, have consisted of me calling him and him answering and hanging up immediately before either of us can speak. Then, when I call him back- at first I was giving him the benefit of the doubt that it may be a poor connection- he yells that "Nothing's happening! Stop calling me!" and hangs up again before I am able to say a word. The job that was supposed to take three days and cost $1,500 less than it did has ended undone after a month. I find Paul Conklin especially despicable as I explained the difficult situation my family was facing, and his reply was that he runs a Christian company promising to take care of my family. This company promised a service at a general, albeit less than exact, price, and then when time came to pay the price had increased significantly.
