They promised to come back to change out part of the fence and even though I contacted them twice to remind them, they never came back out. You get what you pay for. When getting estimates to replace our existing cedar fence, Capital Fence came in as the lowest estimate. Based on their one year warranty and Jim's instance that they always make things right, we went with Capital Fence. Our fence was installed in March 2023. During the install we had issues with them because they missed a back piece of the fence during their estimate which added an additional cost at install that we were not expecting. But we understand that hey sometimes mistakes happen, paid the extra cost and moved on. The fence is now a little over two years old and part of the fence is falling over. When we called them out to inspect, they told us that the wood is warped, the fence is out of warranty, and they will charge us $1,000 to fix it. I am not sure how they can say that they wood is warped. The fence is clearly falling over from a faulty post install. We have decided to just leave it so that anyone considering hiring Capital Fence can see the quality of the workmanship for themselves. Bought a $4,000 fence from these guys less than 6 months ago. Called up and asked about having a 5 foot section temporarly removed so some equipment could be brought into the backyard and got told it was a $650 show up fee plus whatever labor for a 30 min tops job. So about 16% of my original purchase just to show up, plus whatever it costs for them to pull some nails. Def kind of greedy on that service charge. The section I'm temporarly yanking out has their name and phone number on it, so now when I end up doing it myself and it goes back up not looking as good as it does now, it will look like crappy work by them and that section faces the street so people will see it. So good deal on the original fence, but wants to screw you on an after visit. Look at the ridiculous response trying to justify the $650 show up fee that includes no labor. read more

Also got a quote from Capital Fence with pretty much the same price without any fake coupon that brought their inflated estimate down to market. While I initially thought the NOT SHORT company with their huge PR would be better, their obnoxious salesperson resulted in me canceling all activities and going with Capital. Update: Fence installed and looks good. There was confusion about which sides were to be installed. We ended up replacing our neighbor's fence for them on one side and no fence on the other. Told David we still want to replace the 4th side but no response. Lesson here is check the contract drawing. Guys who did the work were fast and efficient. They did a good job with the two doors and posts. The retaining wall also lined up well and looks professional. They were here from about 8 to 2pm. First guy knocked on the door and they started immediately. We paid a deposit over 1.5 months ago and still have not heard about an installation date. I've called 3 times and each time someone picked up promptly only to tell me they will be setting a date soon and asking me for a contact number which is always the same. I'm going to call them again next week and we'll see if we ever get a fence installed. read more

Bottom line - there are lots of fence companies in the area. Go with someone else. I'm adding a star because, despite huge headaches dealing with owner David, his installers were easy to work with and the fences look fine (after some hard-won repairs). I spent approximately $16k on an aluminum pool fence, a small cedar enclosure for our pool equipment, and some repairs to existing split rail fencing. Every step of the way required multiple follow-ups and corrections. By the end, after literally months of chasing him down to correct his mistake(s), David was openly hostile. Here's just one of several issues: We had explicitly agreed over email that they'd install magnetic safety gate latches. However, when they installed the fence they used a simple handle, easily reached by a child. I contacted David immediately and he said they hadn't had any magnetic safety locks in stock, so they just went ahead and installed something else. David tried to convince me that the handle was actually just as good, and that I could "hang the key on a tree" to keep it away from our kid. One, that is a dumb idea; and two, if you can't fulfill the agreement, why didn't you just tell me and we could discuss options? Finally he agreed that, once they had the safety locks in stock they would switch them out (but that removing the old latches would leave holes in the post). I followed up via phone and email for FOUR MONTHS. Finally I emailed David I would have someone else install the correct latch and invoice him; he finally responded to say: "It was not part of the contract, so we will not be reimbursing you. Thank you!" After calling the office to explain some basic tenets of contract law, David gave in and installed the correct latches. He was incredibly rude on the phone, acting like he was doing me a favor. They also installed two gates when we'd contracted for three and charged me for more fencing than was installed (for both the aluminum and wood sections), but after months of follow-up calls and emails they finally reimbursed me the difference. Nick a line unknowingly, and I can understand. Those sorts of things happen. Break a 1.5" brilliant white PVC line while digging a post trench, and fail to mention it, and it's predictably shoddy, unscrupulous workmanship. When I asked if they could do a diagonal fence placement rather than two straight fences to cut back in cost they replied that they didn't know of such a thing and told me good luck. No explanation of why it wasn't possible. They dropped us completely as a future customer rather then get clarity on the request or explain why it wasn't an option. I am updating this review. The owner of the company proceeded to call me to tell me that I am unprofessional for leaving him a unstellar review. When he first called I voiced my concern that when I asked for a modification to the fence I was told "good luck" rather than ask for clarity. When I finally got across what I wanted he told me that he wasn't going to work with me anyways. His tone the entire time was very demeaning and sexist. Fence looks nice. Unfortunately, after the fence was in we noticed that there was a decent 1ft gap between the ground and the fence on the side that our dog could get through. We asked them to come fix it. They came and examined it when no one was home and claimed it looked fine and refused to come back. We now have to let the weeds grow to attempt to cover it. Our dog has got out twice. Today we called to have them come take out some posts so we could have a shed delivered (which we were assured would be available if ever needed) and were told they didn't have time and to contact someone else or do it ourselves. read more

I had a disappointing experience with Capital Fence. Our sole reason for having a fence installed was to contain our small dog in the yard. We conveyed to David that we would need to make sure the fence didn't have any large gaps to prevent the dog from squeezing through. We were assured by the installers that any gaps between the ground and the fence would be no more than a couple inches. The fence was installed today and in one section there is a 6 inch gap between the fence and the ground. When I talked to David he admitted that he failed to notice the uneven ground but that it was my problem to fix. Capital Fence lacked the attention to detail and expertise to recognize the issues with my uneven yard and now I am left with a useless fence for containing my dog. read more

I needed fencing for a rental property. Capital fence was one of 4 companies that I requested a quote from. They scheduled an appointment, I took a day off, I notified the tenants in advance, on the day of the appointment, they did not show up. I called them, the person I talked to had no idea what I was talking about & took my message & said I will get a call back. & so was the person I called the next day. After 4 phone calls, they finally acknowledged my appointment & said they got caught up with another project & rescheduled my appointment (no apology what so ever). On the day of my appointment, I called them to confirm they are coming. They said they might not be able to make it, if they can't, they will move it to the next day. & I actually don't have to be at the property & they can just come & take the measurement & email me a quote! I called them a week later & they said they've been pretty busy & have not made it to the property. They said they don't need to look, & asked that I take pictures & email them with the measurements. By this point I really did not want to work with them, but I still send them the measurements from the other quotes. I had to call them several times for the quote, & finally after I received them, it was more than twice the highest quote I had gotten. When Mike from capital fence asked "when" I want to move forward with the project, I told him about the price difference. His response: "well, off course, we are being very busy at this time & considering your distance from us, we had to price everything higher" Well, if this project is too far for them, maybe they should not list the area in their working radius online. This information would have also been VERY useful if Mike had said that BEFORE I took 2 days off work, & sent notices to tenants. I want to start off by saying this would have been a 4 or 5 star review but I had such an unpleasant and unnecessary conversation with the owner, that the whole experience left a such a bad taste in my mouth I am leaving a 3 star review. Positives- This company's actual fence work is REALLY GOOD at really competitive prices. They installed exactly what they said they would to perfection, exactly when they said they would. Negatives- My experience with the workers started off by asking to be careful around my front garden, pollinator garden, and side garden. They said not only that this wouldn't be an issue but, if there was they would talk to me (this did not happen). While the front garden was completely fine and untouched, the pollinator garden was completely trampled on and the side garden had almost all of the plants broken, some even dug up. I did expect some damage to the pollinator garden due to it being so close to the fence but the side garden was a large shock with the damage. I sent an email back to them asking if it was possible to have some form of compensation due to trauma that the plants endured. They said that the owner (David) would come by and take a look at the damage. I thought this was completely understandable. I greeted David in a fairly cheery mood because while yes the garden is in shambles, the fence itself looks and works better than it has in over 20 years but he was INSTANTLY combative. He started by insulting the garden itself as "sh#$ty weeds" which completely took me off guard. He then started by saying that I was "dumb" for expecting no damage to the garden. I then explained how I was expecting some damage but, not 1 and a half of my 3 gardens in shambles. I also told him repeatedly to calm down as he was almost yelling. He then said to "pay what you think is far". I then asked if it was okay if I took off 50 dollars in order to actually repair the damage. To which he said that was fine but he expects a donation "when they come back and if they don't i'll pay for em". We ended up shaking on that point as I paid for my remaining balance because I wanted this man off my property as soon as possible after he had no only insulted me, my wife, and my garden. He at no point apologized for the garden, which if I had gotten a "I'm so sorry that happened , but unfortunately....etc" I would've been a little disappointed but understood. Instead this man came in, called my garden ugly, called me stupid, and yelled at me when he was the one in the wrong. I was fully prepared to give a 5 star review for this company until this incident. It does not deserve less than 3 SOLELY based on the excellent installation of the fence. But the sheer lack of customer service killed the 5 star rating. My suggestion for potential customers- Do not have anything on or near the fence line, even if they say it's okay, don't trust them on that, move it yourself. If you don't have anything there, and don't mind if someone insults your property, then this is the company for you. My suggestion to the company- Don't ever let David do any form of customer service. He clearly has no experience with it. He alone cost this company a full 5 star rating from his odd outburst at my property. In 2021, I contracted with Capital Fence to Furnish and install 32' of 6' high cedar Wyngate fencing with gates bordering my front yard. Capital removed my old fence and gates and installed new fence and gates. They installed new gate latches and catches. They moved my gate-stop wind protectors from my old gates to the new gates. Several months later the gate post(s) shifted and settled. The latch now bumped into the numb of the catch causing it to bend. In 2022, I called Capital Fence for repair. It would cost $900. Capital repairman Rudy found that the gate posts had shifted and settled. He said this was common for Capital posts. He said the posts were anchored in concrete so there should be no more shifting or settling. If it did shift further, he would replace a new latch for free. I argued that the post shift and settling caused the latch to smash into the knuckle of cradle-catch, and this caused the latch to bend. It could have been bent by people (i.e., me, my family, caregivers) or the wind. As I had a gate-stop wind protector installed, there should be no smash and damage without the post first shifting and settling. Capital maintained the damage was caused by the wind, not by people or shifting or settling of the post installation, so repair was not covered under warrantee. I had to pay $900 additional for a new latch repositioned to accommodate the post shift and settling. Why did the post settle and shift? To verify Rudy's assertion that concrete was used to strengthen, stabilize-anchor the post, I dug around the post, and found no concrete. Rudy had lied to me. Capital had made a non-standard, deficient post installation without concrete anchor. Capital refused to fix the latch-catch damage caused by the deficient post installation without the additional $900 payment. Capital refused any refund. Excellant deer fence! The salesman/designer/layout guy Mike put in extra time and visits to assure that it would be placed properly and as desired. Someone from the office came out during the installation to communicate with me and the crew. The crew solved a problem that came up -- I had thought one corner would be tied in to a neighbour's fence pole, but a gap was left. The installers wired it up after I asked about it. They used concrete on terminal, corner, and gate posts. I paid them to clear the path, instead of attempting that myself, which was a good move because there were last minute adjustments in the route the fence took. I thought the price reasonable.
