Ive been a patient of GATGI…read morefor more than 10 years and I want to say that I have never felt so disrespected by a "health care professional" in all of my 55 years of living. After calling 3 times to follow up with my GI doctor, i was transferred to his Nurse Amber Harris and basically she ended up telling me that she "didnt like the tone of my voice" when i was letting her know that I had called 3 times previously and eventually sang me a chorus of "Good byyyyye" and "Good Luuuuuck"! Incredibly disrespectful! Im going to make sure I write about this experience on every review source known to mankind. She should have her certification revoke because she doesn't represent any type of Florence Nightengale bedside manner and she definitely not professional! She also didnt even relay to my Dr that I had called...which is very retaliatory as if she is a gatekeeper to my wellness. Absolutely disgusting! Trust and believe I will make sure the world knows!

They were able to schedule me over the phone after just a short questionnaire. When we arrived for his appointment, they called him back immediately. I feel good knowing I'm in good hands when it's my turn next month!

Instead of taking her to talk in the back, she starting yelling at her in the waiting area in front of all the other patients. Then I caught her in the back hall saying"Not my problem" with another associate. I told her she was mean to her, then she started on me!!!! Told Michelle manager if that attitude doesn't come from the top she needs to be fired. One bad apple!!!!!

Dr. Gamsey, I am…read morewriting you to make you aware of a situation in your offices that greatly impacted my care, causing an extremely stressful situation and an unnecessary delay in my care plan. You performed an upper endoscopy on 12/2/2024. Immediately afterward, you let me know that you were certain you were looking at a malignant stricture. The biopsy results confirmed that. What followed was an absolute nightmare from the perspective of someone who was just told they have cancer. I set up appointments with a thoracic surgeon, Dr. Reza, on 12/19 and oncologist Dr. Naga on 12/20. I was supposed to have a CT scan scheduled by your office prior to those appointments. An appointment was scheduled for me at Chesapeake Regional on 12/11/24. I drank the barium (which was extremely difficult due to the blockage), and showed up for the procedure, only to be told it had not been approved by insurance. The hospital said your office did not provide the clinicals to United Health Care. When I called your office, they said that was the hospital's job. The hospital said it was your office's job. Your nurse in Chesapeake got involved. She told me the person doing the insurance claim in the Virginia Beach office did not submit the information and that now she was stuck cleaning up the mess in so many words. My wife and I both went back and forth trying to get your office to do what was necessary to address UNC's request for information. Meanwhile, my appointments with the surgeon and oncologists were coming up and I still had no CT. I came to your office to try and talk with someone in person. I was upset and rightly so. I was told my your staff that I had an attitude. At that point I was in tears, telling them I didn't have an attitude, I was scared. I was told to take my order and go take care of getting the test myself. I had an appointment with my Primary Care, Dr. Reniva and told him what was happening. He immediately put in an order for a CT and talked with UNC. He had everything approved as STAT and I was able to get the CT on 12/18, the day before my surgical consult. This entire time I was trying everything I could to get the test scheduled, including trying to pay for it myself. I was absolutely beside myself. I was diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer. It has spread to my liver, spine, ribs, shoulder and many lymph nodes. I went to Duke Cancer Center this week and Dr. Mettu noticed the gap between the endoscopy and the CT. I told her what happened. I realize the gap in time wouldn't have changed the outcome, but this situation should have never happened. Your office also needs some training on how to handle emotional and upset patients. They also need to take accountability and follow-through to do anything they can do to provide the BEST care for your patients. I have no issue with you Dr. Gamsey, you were great. But please take this to your staff and let them know this was unacceptable and make sure they understand that taking ownership, regardless of who's error it was, and taking care of the patient is the top priority. I am still stunned that your staff in Chesapeake told me to take my orders and good luck getting my scan. It's unbelievable. To tell a patient who just found out they have cancer that they have an attitude? That is shameful. I don't expect a response, but I would truly love to hear that you have addressed this situation with your staff in both offices. Respectfully, Tim Mayfield

I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience at Gastrointestinal and Liver Specialists of…read moreTidewater. I have been a patient since 2021. Despite living in Richmond, I consistently drove over two hours for appointments because I trusted their care. I have raved about this practice in the past and recommended their providers to others who needed GI services. Recently, during an active gastritis flare that was preventing me from eating properly, my prescription was withheld because I had rescheduled/canceled appointments -- cancellations that occurred during a lapse in my health insurance, which I communicated to the office on multiple occasions. I had also been told previously by my provider, Robin Isdell, that returning in January 2026 after my yearly checkup at the end of 2024 was acceptable. When I called last week to schedule the soonest available appointment (which was not until July), I was told a prescription would be sent to my pharmacy to hold me over until then. After CVS notified me that the refill request was yet again denied, I followed up and was met with short, dismissive communication from Tammy, who reiterated that no prescription would be provided until I was seen in office. Withholding medication from a long-term patient during an active flare -- especially after telling me a temporary refill would be sent -- is unacceptable. The inconsistency in communication and lack of compassion were deeply disappointing. It should not require escalating to multiple staff members for a patient in distress to receive basic support. I have since transferred my care to another practice closer to where I live. After years of loyalty, travel, and referrals, this experience has been incredibly disheartening.

They just partnered with Capital Digestive Care network and I'm curious to see how this will change in the future. Parking: this lot is shared for all businesses at the Amelia Building with other office suites. My appointments are in the morning to early afternoon and the lot has a few spots to always park. Office: the office suite is on the first floor and convenient to walk in. The office asks you to be at your appointment 15 mins prior for paperwork. The waiting area had plenty of seating and HGTV/ magazines to buy the time. The office as a whole looked clean and professional. Staff: I had a great experience with the staff! I was driving to my appointment from work and realized I forgot my wallet. I would have been late or missed my appointment if I stopped by my house and then to my appointment. I called the receptionist and she was nice and quick to let me know that I will be able to still check in, since I had my insurance card. It was a pleasant experience to reach the office in a timely manner and speak with a staff member that was kind! Checking in was easy and I was able to be seen by my scheduled appointment time. Dr. Thiwan is an amazing doctor that was able to make me feel comfortable and listen to me as I explained the reason for my visit. He gave me an awesome experience and asked great probing questions on the why behind his thought process to navigate through my diagnosis. Overall, I am looking forward to my next visit and had a great experience with this network!
