Instead of taking her to talk in the back, she starting yelling at her in the waiting area in front of all the other patients. Then I caught her in the back hall saying"Not my problem" with another associate. I told her she was mean to her, then she started on me!!!! Told Michelle manager if that attitude doesn't come from the top she needs to be fired. One bad apple!!!!!

You performed an upper endoscopy on 12/2/2024. Immediately afterward, you let me know that you were certain you were looking at a malignant stricture. The biopsy results confirmed that. What followed was an absolute nightmare from the perspective of someone who was just told they have cancer. I set up appointments with a thoracic surgeon, Dr. Reza, on 12/19 and oncologist Dr. Naga on 12/20. I was supposed to have a CT scan scheduled by your office prior to those appointments. An appointment was scheduled for me at Chesapeake Regional on 12/11/24. I drank the barium (which was extremely difficult due to the blockage), and showed up for the procedure, only to be told it had not been approved by insurance. The hospital said your office did not provide the clinicals to United Health Care. When I called your office, they said that was the hospital's job. The hospital said it was your office's job. Your nurse in Chesapeake got involved. She told me the person doing the insurance claim in the Virginia Beach office did not submit the information and that now she was stuck cleaning up the mess in so many words. My wife and I both went back and forth trying to get your office to do what was necessary to address UNC's request for information. Meanwhile, my appointments with the surgeon and oncologists were coming up and I still had no CT. I came to your office to try and talk with someone in person. I was upset and rightly so. I was told my your staff that I had an attitude. At that point I was in tears, telling them I didn't have an attitude, I was scared. I was told to take my order and go take care of getting the test myself. I had an appointment with my Primary Care, Dr. Reniva and told him what was happening. He immediately put in an order for a CT and talked with UNC. He had everything approved as STAT and I was able to get the CT on 12/18, the day before my surgical consult. This entire time I was trying everything I could to get the test scheduled, including trying to pay for it myself. I was absolutely beside myself. I was diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer. It has spread to my liver, spine, ribs, shoulder and many lymph nodes. I went to Duke Cancer Center this week and Dr. Mettu noticed the gap between the endoscopy and the CT. I told her what happened. I realize the gap in time wouldn't have changed the outcome, but this situation should have never happened. Your office also needs some training on how to handle emotional and upset patients. They also need to take accountability and follow-through to do anything they can do to provide the BEST care for your patients. I have no issue with you Dr. Gamsey, you were great. But please take this to your staff and let them know this was unacceptable and make sure they understand that taking ownership, regardless of who's error it was, and taking care of the patient is the top priority. I am still stunned that your staff in Chesapeake told me to take my orders and good luck getting my scan. It's unbelievable. To tell a patient who just found out they have cancer that they have an attitude? That is shameful. I don't expect a response, but I would truly love to hear that you have addressed this situation with your staff in both offices. Respectfully, Tim Mayfield

After calling 3 times to follow up with my GI doctor, i was transferred to his Nurse Amber Harris and basically she ended up telling me that she "didnt like the tone of my voice" when i was letting her know that I had called 3 times previously and eventually sang me a chorus of "Good byyyyye" and "Good Luuuuuck"! Incredibly disrespectful! Im going to make sure I write about this experience on every review source known to mankind. She should have her certification revoke because she doesn't represent any type of Florence Nightengale bedside manner and she definitely not professional! She also didnt even relay to my Dr that I had called...which is very retaliatory as if she is a gatekeeper to my wellness. Absolutely disgusting! Trust and believe I will make sure the world knows!

My wife was a patient at Gastroenterology, Ltd. of Virginia Beach, and I'm sharing this review as…read moreher husband -- someone who had to watch her suffer not just from worsening medical symptoms, but from being completely dismissed by the doctors who should have helped her. She first saw Dr. Patrick for ongoing upper abdominal pain and digestive symptoms. Despite describing textbook signs of gallbladder dysfunction, Dr. Patrick only recommended an endoscopy. She didn't seriously explore the possibility that my wife's gallbladder was the problem. As her pain worsened, Dr. Patrick sent her to the ER on May 30. That seemed like a positive step. But afterward, there was no follow-up from the GI office. It was her primary care physician, not Dr. Patrick, who ordered a HIDA scan, which was performed on June 3. The scan clearly showed abnormal gallbladder function. After that scan, my wife called the GI office several times seeking guidance. She was still in pain and had a test showing her gallbladder wasn't working -- but no one returned her calls. Left with no answers, she had no choice but to go back to the ER. While she was being treated in the ER, Dr. Patrick finally called -- not to offer help or a surgical referral, but to say that it wasn't her gallbladder and she just needed the endoscopy. My wife had already followed every reasonable recommendation up to that point -- except two things: She declined to take medications that had the potential to worsen her gallbladder function, which made sense given that the HIDA scan showed it was already failing. She didn't go forward with the endoscopy, because by then, the source of her pain was already clearly identified -- and it wasn't her stomach. And she was right to stand her ground. Soon after, she was admitted to the hospital for urgent gallbladder surgery. The surgeon told us that her gallbladder was very enlarged and completely non-functioning. That was a shocking confirmation that her instincts -- and her pain -- had been correct all along. And that the GI office had failed her. As her husband, I watched her do everything she could: she showed up, followed the process, got the tests, and made the right decisions. She didn't ignore advice -- she filtered it through common sense and clear medical evidence. And she was dismissed anyway. No patient should have to go through what she did. She wasn't just ignored -- she was actively misled and left to suffer. I truly hope this practice reflects on how they treat patients, because the next person might not push as hard -- and they shouldn't have to.

This Gastroenterology Ltd office is a satellite of the main location on First Colonial Road…read more The office is located in a 3 story medical building on Healthy Way. The building sits alone in a field off Plaza Trail Road. The location is just north of the intersection with Princess Anne Road. At that intersection sits a shopping center which is anchored by Harris Teeters, Petco, Marshall's & others. So the medical building is really hard to miss. Gastroenterology Ltd is located on the 2nd floor. Step out of the elevator. Turn right; and you are at the doors. If you have a routine appointment or follow up, rather than a procedure, it's much easier to go to this location. It isn't crowded. It's easier to get an appointment. And you are in and out much quicker. Can I tell you how much I like Dr. Pop? I started seeing him when Dr. Rawls retired. He's young, smart and caring. He will keep working until he's located the source of a problem. He treats you like a person, not just a chart. Dr. Pop did his Residency at UVA and a Fellowship In Gastroenterology at Mt. Sinai in NYC. I trust him implicitly. I recommend this practice, whether it be the main or satellite location without any hesitation.
