Completely different story. They charged my account multiple times ($38.21 and $56.70) with no explanation--on top of what I had already paid for the first auction. After that, it was nothing but excuses and the runaround. Emails ignored. Calls unanswered. Zero accountability. I had to get my bank involved just to get my money back, and now there's an active investigation. This company is shady at best. Don't be fooled by a good first experience--save yourself the headache and keep your money far away from them.

She and her team are professional, they know how to set up an Estate sale to make it appealing to your eye, they market well, they know how to price, and they do what they say they will do within the timeframes given. We could not have been happier with the job they did for us. Long version - After my mother passed away, we were faced with the daunting task of cleaning out her house and preparing it for sale. We began by obtaining a dumpster and disposing of many, many, items that we deemed to have no value and be worthless. MISTAKE. Susanna could have sold much of what we disposed of and probably saved us some on the dump fees. I was amazed at what people will buy. When we interviewed Susanna she arrived on time, was dressed professionally, and came prepared with her insurance certificate, business license, a bond, and references. She explained the whole process to us (from discovering what is in the house all the way through final cleanup). After we selected her team, we discussed timing of the process and the sale. She had some very smart insight about timing, in that the sale should be long enough past Christmas that people feel like they have some spending money in their pocket again. Once they got to work, her associate Eddie took the lead is setting up the sale. They grouped items intelligently, attractively, and appropriately. Their staging of items conveys to buyers that the sale is professionally run. They priced everything in the sale, even brought in an outsider to value the art that my mother had collected over the years (sadly none were Rembrandts ). Once the sale was complete, they disposed of everything that had not sold (as they said they would), and turned over an empty vacuumed house ready to start the real estate sale process. Throughout the process Susanna and Eddie kept us informed and apprised of the whole process. My siblings and I were very happy with the whole process and the results. Since our sale, I have had the opportunity to attend estate sales put on by other companies. Dare I say they don't come close to representing an estate the way Susanna and her team do. Like I said at the beginning, don't waste your time interviewing anyone other than Burns Estate Liquidators. You will end up hiring BEL anyways.

Firstly, one has to acknowledge that an auction house is what it is: A disposal site for mostly…read moreworn out things. One also must admit that the dynamic at an auction is deliberately designed to tickle one's dream of 'the great deal' and the urgency of the timeline promotes spending more than anyone wants to spend and often more than the junk is worth on the open market. And the general notion that the 'digital' version is corrupt, creating fake bidders or whatever is another story. AND it's important to say that (aside from the expected gruff attitude of the yard 'bulls') everyone who works at the place, doing the heavy lifting literally or bureaucratically, are perfectly cordial and do what peons do, I mean, would you want to work there? However, I can describe (briefly?) my experiences: Basically, one need be prepared and capable of fixing things, and be ready to pay, in the beginning or the end, more than you want to, and more than it may well cost on the open market. Before you say that you have to either be an expert or hire one to inspect things thoroughly, for whatever reasons, reasonable or otherwise, you cannot even bring a screwdriver to the yard, and of course, you cannot do anything normal with a machine to really have any idea if it has grave or expensive issues. I bought a low-hour utility truck which had multiple minor issues, but I paid at least $3000 more than I think it was worth. Then I bought several other lots, from truck racks to welders to chainsaws which were all essentially non-functional or completely blown up. All of it would go on to the trash heap if I didn't have dramatic skill at fixing crap that is TOO FAR GONE for the majority of people in the world. That's mostly why it is on offer. One can say that if you buy a metal frame for which the MSRP is $1300, (robbery of course) for $80 plus the ridiculous "buyer's premium" and taxes (including Sacramento "city" tax !?!) and spend $100 in gas to burn in 3 hours of driving to pick up the damn thing, you could say you saved $1000. Except of course, I was an idiot, and because it's too much trouble for Barnone to actually measure such things, such that you might know that the frame is not actually square but polygon shaped, despite their published dimensions, and I ended up having to cut and re-weld the frame... ...well, my fault for not properly studying the thing. There are basically three reasons why stuff is on this lot: 1) It is worn out 2) The gov't deems it a gross polluter which can no longer be operated or 3) Somebody died and their family is cleaning out the garage. In the 3rd case, maybe it is not (complete) garbage and the family just doesn't want to deal with it. But you will likely pay too much, whatever that means. So finally: I waste your time reading this (if you've made it this far) just to conclude that it is a normal situation, entirely 'buyer beware,' you take all the risk, good luck to you. BUT it would be great, esp. in light of the "Buyer's premium" top skim, (which is not insignificant) if the owners, a 'consortium of investors from the upper east side Manhattan' or whatever, would do us all a favor and instruct the institution to BE MORE DISCERNING about what is on display, and for example if you're going to offer a chainsaw that has been completely seized and thrown in a lake for 3 years, either STATE as much or refuse to offer it. Having had to put my mum in memory care and having our family home with over 55 years of collectibles and 'stuff' inside, was incredibly daunting for me. I need to sell the house to pay for my mum's care, but getting to that point was overwhelming to me. Heather is patient, kind, professional, and extremely organized. She and her crew got the estate sale prepped in one day and in one weekend, most all of the contents in the home were sold. Wow! She also helped to arrange another company that she partners with to do a clear-out of what was left, including some heavy furniture. I was left with a totally cleared out home and extra money in my pocket to put towards fixing up the home to sell. What an amazing company in a difficult time of need.
