After the appointment was already made, their office began texting me asking for paperwork from my previous dentist and wanting to know what I had previously been quoted for a crown and fillings. I explained that I specifically wanted their dentist to perform his own examination and X-rays and come to his own diagnosis in case anything had been missed or changed. Instead of simply examining me at my scheduled appointment and providing their own treatment recommendations and pricing, the manager continued asking when I had last seen my dentist and when I had been diagnosed. When I asked them to please provide their own quote rather than continuing to go back and forth about my previous dentist over text, I was suddenly told that Dr. Jacobs was "declining to take me on as a patient" and that my appointment was canceled. I find this incredibly unprofessional. If an office advertises a consultation/X-rays, schedules a new patient, and then cancels the appointment because the patient wants an independent examination and does not want to discuss another dentist's pricing over text, potential patients should know about that experience. I found Sea Summit Dentistry's communication dishonest, unprofessional, and not genuinely patient-focused. I have the entire text conversation documenting exactly what occurred. I'm very glad I saw how this office handles patients before trusting them with my dental care or spending money here.

I believe I came in about once a month for adjustments and checkups. There were a couple of occasions, however, when I felt Dr. Ghiassi could have been more welcoming or professional in the way he interacted with me. At the time, I decided to share my experience on Yelp. Since I was technically still a minor, the office contacted my mother the following day and, from what I remember, strongly pressured her to have me remove the review. Looking back now, especially after spending years working in customer service and hospitality, that experience has always left a sour taste in my mouth. Customer feedback isn't always going to be positive, but I believe the way a business responds to criticism says a lot about the overall experience. A couple of years ago, I actually returned to get a quote because my teeth had shifted and become crooked again. I understand there are many factors that go into orthodontic pricing, and I'm certainly not an expert on the logistics. To clarify, I had NO interaction with the head dentist of this office. Only with the staff and the…read morevisiting Periodontist. Another lesson for YOU in having to deal with dental insurance and a signed-on dental office! I have Delta Dental HMO, which all offices hate (when you have HMO coverage). Reason for their ire? They are supposed to adhere to the contract they signed with Delta, only charging the patient the co-pay that is provided to both the office and the patient in the booklet, based on the procedure code in the Treatment Plan. Often, certain procedures qualify for add'l money paid to the dentist from Delta. But they try very hard to NOT charge the patient what they are required to do, with lots of justifications IF you happen to be informed. They are counting on the patient not knowing what they are 'supposed' to be charged and then doubling, tripling, quadrupling or more the actual allowable charge! I'm old enough to have been to multiple offices over my lifetime and it's always the same. This office is no different. My referral dentist sent me to a specialist Periodontist for needing a "crown lengthening" procedure before my dentist could build for me a 4-tooth bridge. I knew what I was in for: My ins. gave me several choices of Perio's and I chose one just based on location and availability. They are typically "travelling" specialists, going once a month to each office. This was my 2nd Perio in 6 weeks as the first office resulted in essentially the same situation. I take my booklet with me since I know what's going to happen. I talk with the Perio, she gave me my options and I said, "Okay - and I wanted to use Nitrous Oxide during the 20 min. procedure. Since she was pregnant, she could not work in a room with Nitrous, which I understood. After expressing my concerns, she suggested that the dentist of this office could administer the Novocain using the Nitrous (for the 5 min. injection) and then this Perio could perform the procedure in a different room once the Novocain took effect: "It only takes about 20 min.". I agreed. So, Nitrous for ONLY the injections: No problem. (Their normal charge for Nitrous is $125 for the whole procedure but would still charge me that for JUST during the injection given - eyes rolling - per Ken, see below.) Then when the Office Mgr. ??? Ken came in to tell me their charge for the whole procedure (oh boy, here it comes), he hands me a Treatment Plan for my co-pay of $800 + the $125 for the Nitrous. My booklet clearly stated that THAT procedure's co-pay on my part is $145 as determined by the code assigned that procedure, not $800. And I have to pay fully for the non-covered Nitrous (I knew that.) Showing him my booklet where it clearly indicates what my co-pay SHOULD be, he examines it as though he's never seen it before, lol. Sorry, but I KNOW this game - it's all the same no matter where you go - they must all go to the same school. Said that booklet is NOT for specialists (Perio in this case) but it IS - it's based on the procedure code and is even entitled under Periodontist's work. He then said he would "call them" and quickly left the exam room. He then returned with a corrected Treatment Plan, now reflecting MY correct co-pay but said they "couldn't do the work" because the resident dentist would NOT care to administer the Novocain as the Perio would not want to perform the procedure while another dentist was the one to administer the Novo. He then walked to the entrance of the room and motioned for me to exit, but "thank you for coming". So, if you don't already know, this is what the majority of dental offices do. You need to come to the dental office armed with your co-pay booklet and be informed. If not, you WILL be greatly overcharged. And yes, I had already spoken to Delta Dental. This is why those dentists that DO sign on with the HMO plan expect to charge far differently than what they are signed up to do. They get away with it because MOST patients don't bother to check with Delta Dental nor even look at the EOB (Explanation of Benefits book) to verify. Sad state of affairs. And shame to Modern Dentistry, among many others.
