When Melbourne puts on good weather, it puts on good weather. A promised sunny day led to a drive away, down to Mornington. Our end goal was to visit Cape Schanck and see what what there was to see.
Cape Schanck is right down on the bottom of Mornington. Look to the left and you can see Phillip Island, and to the right is Point Nepean. On this day, because we had exceptionally good weather conditions for mid-winter and the sun was actually out, it was really quite pleasant outside.
We took a small walk to a lighthouse, it's only a baby one. From my understanding, they don't do guided tours anymore. There's an old abandoned looking Assistant Manager's House which has been turned into a make-shift museum, but it might just be open weekdays only, if not at all.
The main walk that's worth doing was the boardwalk. It took maybe over an over and the boardwalk led to a Peddle Beach and a large rock.
Go here when it's sunny. The climb down will be easy and fun to see what's coming up, the climb back up, that's a whole other story. It's rocky and dry and the water is pretty.
There's also the option that you could go on the Bush Rangers Bay Walk, which can be a good 4 hour long hike to a small cove. read more
