Easy to spot off the road and such a pretty lighthouse. The lens was removed and is located at the museum in Ferndale

Came here after seeing this cool little town in the 101 things to do in Humboldt magazine we got up in Arcata from our hotel. It was quite the drive in. Very tight and windy road. If you get car sick I wouldn't recommend coming here. Would be very difficult with a trailer. Very cool place to visit. The gentleman inside the lighthouse was very knowledgeable and funny. He had such a great sense of humor and kind. Learned a lot about them moving this light house and the amount of reconstruction it took to bring it back to life. He even hand wrote a map for us to a small trail that over looked the bay to see whales! We headed over after we left the light house and it was beautiful. It's a quaint little town. Please make a donation if you come here. Keep the history alive!

Always look forward to seeing what's lit up in the lighthouse. Love the seasonal displays that are done!

What a GREAT place to make a pit stop…read more Quality/Quantity - Tourists stop. Great place to get souvenirs for friends and family. Many locally made gifts. And of course, many Bigfoot gifts. Lots of wood carved items and photo opportunities with Bigfoot. Atmosphere - Huge cool place, especially if you are into Bigfoot, Sasquatch. Last year, they did a good job with marketing; added flags, more merchandise outdoors to entice drivers to stop by. Parking on the side of the road, yet still safe; less safe parking across the road. Clean bathrooms (outhouses), hand sink, soap, and paper towels. Open 7 days a week. Service - Everyone was friendly. Price - Tourist prices. Most of the employees were helpful and in good spirit. There was however one employee who cussed at me and threatened me in front of my family and others customers over a misunderstanding. Foul language and aggressive behavior is not ok and that is something that I will not tolerate. I asked to speak to the manager but was told he was on vacation and that he was not going to be of any help on assisting me with this matter. I asked why and I was told by a second employee that this behavior is viewed as acceptable by the manager. I am choosing to write a review so that everyone knows what could happen if you are planning on stopping by. I will never return and I will advise others in the area not to do so as well.

As we were driving through the Avenue of the Giants, we noticed a tourist stop for a drive thru…read moretree. It became stop seven (10:38) on day 5 of our roadtrip. Since we had our own car with us, figured it would be a good opportunity to get some memorable pictures. The park is well organized, with clear signs from the road pointing you to the entrance. From there, you pay $15 to the attendant, and then drive a very short way to the tree. My wife drove through while I got out to take pictures from the front. It didn't take very long, but we got our picture (though the tree seems to have split more, not resembling the box shape that I've seen in other pictures).

Stopped here on our way home from a weekend getaway hoping to have a unique experience we could…read moreshare with our family and friends but ended up in a negative encounter with who we believe to be the owner of the establishment. There was a $15 entrance fee and a short distance to reach the tree. As we got closer it became apparent that the opening was not a comfortable "drive thru the tree" experience without the possibility of damaging our vehicle. But, we attempted to drive into it which involved me exiting the truck to help guide it through but did not want to risk the chance of scratching the paint or ripping off our side mirrors so we decided not to continue. As we drove toward the exit we stopped to discuss our experience with an older man who proceeded to argue and raise his voice while telling us he knows for a fact our truck fits through it. That he doesn't want us going around telling people we couldn't fit but we just didn't want to risk it. We proceeded to tell him the truck would not fit without causing damage and we wanted a refund. This was definitely not a good experience and not what it seems to be. The tree entrance is not large and you have to pay before having the chance to decide if your vehicle will fit through it. We do not recommend coming here , for a true drive thru tree experience there is another option a bit further south and it doesn't disappoint.

It entails walking about a flatish half mile (one way) on a paved road to the lighthouse, ending in panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, a couple of picnic tables, and even some cabins to rent, if staying a couple of days to unwind is part of the plan! On a Sunday morning after a canoe paddle down the Big River, we did the half-mile trek to the lighthouse. It was fairly busy, with 3 or 4 groups ahead of us. On the tour, volunteer guides on each of the four levels explain the need for the lighthouse, its inner workings, and how innovation and technology changed it over the years. There are four levels to climb: after the first flight with two handrails, there is only one handrail up the steps, making it a great core workout in addition to a historic and informational experience! After (or before) the tour, wander around the museum/gift shop, where there is a souvenir for every lighthouse aficionado to buy sprinkled with more historic information and pictures not only of the lighthouse, but also of the surrounding environment and wildlife. If lighthouses are your jam, the weekend is a great time to go with the tour, museum/gift shop, and even a place to stay if you want! Convenient to downtown Mendocino, after the tour, the charming downtown is a great place to grab a bite and do some shopping! Young and old alike, this is a great experience!
