Horse camping in Cortez CO. Very nice ranch with water and electric. Other amenities are pretty sparse. But the site were spacious and trails into Canyon of the Ancients, right from the camp. The owners are great , very attentive and ready to make your stay a good one. read more

I have taken many horse rides over the years, and I must say our ride with Jessica was the best. I had to twist my sister's arm to go on a ride, but by the end she was a huge fan. Jessica is an educator and so she took time to explain how to have the best ride as well as explaining the area. The location we rode to was extra special. We chose the full day ride to the Canyons of the Ancients National Monument. It was a challenging ride but Jessica and her well trained horses made it enjoyable. We learned so much on the ride from her comments as well as seeing the area first hand. The lunch was delicious as well. Jessica has a friendly style and a warm sense of humor as well as a deep knowledge and respect for the American Indian culture. THE BEST TRIP EVER! read more

Did the NATIONAL MONUMENT RIDE~HALF DAY. Was so amazing. Absolutely a beautiful ride in the morning I strongly suggest doing it. We even stayed in one of the camping wagons the night before. Staying there at night was absolutely beautiful and so peaceful and quiet outside. You do not need to look any further just book. read more

My son Colin, who lives in Cortez, wanted to ride while I was visiting. I've never been on a horse at 66 years of age. It was fantastic! The owners are super nice, down to earth folks. My wife and I drove cross country to get to Cortez. We saw and did some amazing things. Riding horses through the desert to see Pueblo Indian remains was a highlight for both of us. Went on a half day ride with my elderly-ish parents, Amanda was our tour guide. This experience far exceeded 5 stars. Amanda was sensitive and patient with us beginners, she made the ride fun and exhilarating. She offered knowledge and assistance, she felt like a good friend during the ride. Actually, I'd love to be her friend - she was great. The horses were fun and full of personality. The scenery was beautiful and unique. 100% would do this again and again and again. read more

I have my own horse and have been riding my whole life and this trail ride was one of the best. The horses were matched to the rider and everyone of them are great trail horses. The views were spectacular, from the deep canyon to the green valleys and lots of blue sky. And the history in McElmo Canyon was unsurpassed. Kristie has a permit to show ruins in Canyon of the Ancients National Monument and showed us many on the full day ride. We saw pottery shards and hand prints and learned a lot about an ancient civilization. And the amenities were great: apples and granola bars for snacks and a great turkey sandwich lunch and plenty of water all day. This is so more than a 5 star ride, it is a wonderful learning experience. read more

Great experience for the whole family! My husband, 9 year old son and I loved this fun ride with amazing views and photo opportunities. Our guide Jessica was especially great with our son who was on his first real trail ride. She was informative, fun and made this experience one to remember. We did the half day ride and saw a few different ruins and also took a short break off the horses to view an old house remain closer up. The horses were good natured and exactly suited to our different levels of riding experience. I can't recommend this enough! read more

This place was welcoming and warm, true hospitality. The horses are loved and well cared for and do an exceptional job with beginner riders. I have my own horses and loved this experience. There were two children on my ride that never rode before and their horses took very good care of those kids, listening and doing what they were told...even from kids!!! Those are good horses. Our trail guide, Jessica, was patient, kind, informative and knew the history of the area and was passionate about sharing her love of this rich culture and heritage. I highly recommend this tour of the ancient lands on the back of a horses. Breathtaking!!!! read more

If you're anywhere near Cortez you need to make time to a ride with Canyon Trails Ranch. My wife, father-in-law and I took a half-day ride which we will remember for years to come. The ride began with the folks pairing us with the perfect horse for our size, personality, and horse back experience, then moved onto a beautiful trail winding through private land in the Canyon of the Ancients. The highlight of the ride was when we dismounted and hiked into a canyon overhang that had tons of ancient native American artifacts to see and our guide provided a great history of the location and how the artifacts were used in day-to-day life of the indigenous people. Truly a great experience and a top notch guide company. read more
