The Canyon Theater Guild has a performance of Rodgers + Hammerstien's Cinderella. This was a truly magical experience!

I love being a part of this theater, very fun shows, great people to be around, would for sure recommend visiting when down in Santa Clarita.

Tonight 3 of us went to see West Side Story and it was superb! The acting, voices, choreography and sets were all top notch. This performance had a free wine and champagne reception and we each really enjoyed our drinks. Bottled water was $1.00. The bathrooms were immaculate with fresh cut flowers. The temperature was perfect and we could take off our coats. The staff was friendly and helpful. Hurry and go see it as it ends next weekend!

Canyon Theater Guild, nestled in the heart of Old Town Newhall, is a charming little theater that offers a unique blend of history, community, and art. Its quaint 19th-century aesthetic aligns perfectly with the surrounding area, giving patrons a feeling of stepping back in time. The theater's small size, with a seating capacity of 288, creates an intimate atmosphere that allows for a more personal connection with the performances. They have great seats for handicap access and any seat is a great seat in the house. In terms of concessions, the offerings are basic yet affordable, with items such as water priced at just $1. This simplicity adds to the overall appeal of the venue, keeping the focus on the theatrical performance. The staff were super friendly. The plays I've attended at Canyon Theater Guild have been consistently enjoyable, with commendable acting for a local theater. While some actors may lack the range you'd find in larger productions, their performances are heartfelt and genuine, reflecting the community spirit that embodies the theater. However, to fully appreciate what Canyon Theater Guild has to offer, it's essential to approach it with the right mindset. This isn't the Ahmanson; it's a local theater that thrives on community support and love for the arts. And in that regard, it delivers wonderfully. I've seen 3-4 plays there and each time, the experience was delightful. In conclusion, the Canyon Theater Guild is a gem in Old Town Newhall. It's a place where locals can come together to support and enjoy the arts, all within the ambiance of a charming, historical setting. note: you can have a a great afternoon on a matinee sunday in the area. Eat at one of the approximately 15 restaurants in the immediate walking area. Enjoy a glass of wine at the 2-4 wineries/wine rooms, and then have a matinee at the theater. Overall, a great way to have a nice sunday out. Also, they have a lot of productions that are kid friendly.

We've seen two productions here and both times were great! The cast and crew put on wonderful shows... theatre is small and every seat has an awesome view of the stage. Prices are little high for local theatre but still worth it. Parking is easy on street right in front of theatre or in a nearby lot. We are excited to check out even more productions soon!

Not terrible for a small community theater. I brought my daughter to see The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe because she had just finished the book. Despite the minimalist set and costuming, she loved the show and we all had a good time. There was a mix of some very good acting and some mediocre acting and I probably would have been disappointed had this been downtown or in Hollywood, etc. But I didn't expect to be blown away, so it was enjoyable. Seating was adequate, but could use some upgrades. Cannot order online...have to order via phone or come to the box offfice.

I've background in the…read moreentertainment business (over 20 years) so to have this gem in my neighborhood and not have to go allll the way to LA/Hollywood is a blessing in disguise. My youngest son is a natural performer and although he has an agent, prior to enrollment, I began to take notice that he really needed to gain more confidence and truly learn and cultivate his skill set. I'd driven past this location so many times over the years and even knew tons of kids who attended but never inquired. I'd always thought SCV is so off the grid what do they know about Hollywood? just another company taking peoples money claiming they have all these connections getting folks hopes up. But after wanting to yank my hair out managing my son's auditions I decided I go check them out. And I would have never imagined how one decision could change the trajectory of my thinking and open up so many opportunity. I will say, if you attempt to get pricing info over the phone, that's not gonna happen. You will be directed to Mike Josten, the owner. He's been in business over 20 years in the city, please feel free to check out his accreditations with the City (like Chamber of Commerce, etc.). It's a business people, I've seen comments like "he's a Salesman" but if you already have your mind set to buy something .. you will and if you don't, you won't. You can't blame a business owner for doing his job selling his business. You came to him. He's not scouting and cold calling. Mike was everything I'd imagined. High energy, friendly, passionate and so so encouraging. I've never met a stranger so kind, he's funny too and just really wanting to help support peoples dreams. And that all truly mattered to me. Without a doubt this school is it. When you see comments saying everyone in there gives a family vibe, it's true. All the students love Mike! He jokes and laughs with them, they respect him and everyone PERFORMS. And The teachers get to it! They supply the trainings, and resources all the way up to helping you land an agent. There are legit SAG/AFTRA agents that scout EVERY SAT at the school. Being on the business side of the entertainment business, I know this place is a powerhouse for anyone wanting to take their craft serious and are really looking to get out there. You just have to bring your skill set and show up! Put in the work. I love it, and I don't think I've ever been so grateful to a team of people for supporting me and my baby side by side and also breathing life back into my own dreams and aspirations!

She enjoys the acting classes, the voice overs, teen runway, on-camera scene practices, etc. She loves it, loves it, LOVES it!!! To add on, she has made some great friends already in the 2 months that she has been here. She just participated in a fashion show, so this place keeps her BUSY! The teachers are awesome. They are encouraging and kind. All of the instructors have professional backgrounds and it's wonderful that they are sharing it with our kids. There are agents that come weekly looking for talent. SCSOPA is preparing her for a shot in the industry! We also see her confidence building. She has met with a couple agents and is wanted by both. We will see;). Mike, the owner is warm, hilarious, and full of energy. Mike and his team are passionate about the kids and their future in show biz. So far, we believe this is the best thing we have done for our daughter so far.

We went to a Sunday matinee to see A Couple of Blaguards presented by The Tavern Brawlers. It was a two-man show with very funny stories and songs. The theatre seats about 80. The seats are a bit worn but comfortable enough for 2 hours. They sell alcoholic and nonalcholic beverages and snacks. They have a full year calendar of shows scheduled so be sure to check it out. There is a parking lot in back and street parking as well. There are plenty of eateries to choose from if you want to walk around Old Town Newhall before or after the shows. This theatre has been here a very long time and hosts many different local artist events. You can buy your tickets on line with a small handling fee or buy them inside at the box office. It is open seating on first-come first-served basis. I emailed the info email address with a question and they got back to me right away. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing due to poor communication and a lack of professionalism from the staff--specifically Holly, the assistant general manager. At the first class, no one explained what to expect. Holly didn't offer a tour, walk us through the process, or provide any orientation. My daughter was taken to the back without explanation, and I was told I couldn't accompany her--no reassurance, no details, nothing. I had no idea what was happening during the class. The next day, we returned for the Rock 101 group trial. Once again, no one offered any guidance. When I asked if I could see where she was/what she was doing, Holly stated only instructors could be in the back and passively allowed me to peek into the back but didn't bother to walk me through the space or address my concerns. After the second class, I asked about pricing. Holly told me she'd email me--she never did. I waited until the following week and then had to follow up myself, but never received a reply. My daughter enjoyed the classes themselves and was excited to continue, but the lack of transparency, poor follow-through, and dismissive attitude from the front desk staff made me uncomfortable moving forward. Parents deserve to feel confident and informed, especially when leaving young children in someone else's care. Disappointed overall.

The program strikes a great balance between fun and skill-building, and we couldn't be happier with the experience so far.

Dear Reader, To anyone reviewing Escape Theater as a…read morepotential extracurricular opportunity for their child, I feel compelled to share information that may spare others the disappointment my compatriots and several others have experienced. As a parent of young children, I initially viewed Escape Theater as a creative and enriching environment. That perception changed significantly after receiving multiple firsthand accounts from parents and children who have participated there. These accounts reveal an organizational culture characterized less by mentorship and understanding, and more by rigid control coupled with a striking lack of empathy. Of particular concern is the theater's inflexible zero-tolerance policy regarding missed rehearsals. Any parent familiar with children understands that illness is not an exception but an inevitability. Expecting families to prioritize attendance over health is not only unrealistic, but irresponsible. No reasonable parent wishes for their child to become "patient zero" in a classroom--or a rehearsal space. Even if one were willing to overlook the dismissive and demoralizing manner in which children are reportedly treated, there remain troubling questions regarding the theater's financial practices. At minimum, these matters appear questionable enough to warrant the attention of appropriate oversight. Families are encouraged to think carefully before investing their time, trust, and hard-earned money. In short, parents seeking a supportive, ethical, and child-centered environment would be wise to continue their search elsewhere. Sincerely, A Concerned Parent

Elizabeth has completely lost focus of what matters to theater, children, and families…read more The kids aren't allowed to miss more than one rehearsal and, when one of the children was SICK WITH THE FLU and missed two rehearsals she took that child's part from them. Elizabeth was so rule obsessed and drunk on her own power she would rather jeopardize the health of a child and the rest of the cast than make an exception. That little girl she stole the part from had been at every other rehearsal, never late, and was not only dedicated to her role but beyond excited to perform. Now that child is absolutely devastated. Crushed because her parents put her health first. This is NOT how you foster a love of theater in a young child. Elizabeth makes theater stressful and unpleasant for both parents and children. Save your child the pain. Save yourself the stress. Do NOT give your hard earned money to these people.
