I enjoy writing reviews of establishments or businesses that provide a great experience, product, and/or top-notch customer service. However, I feel it is just as important to "blow the whistle" on those who engage in unfair business practices, and this apartment community has rubbed me the wrong way. Hard.
We moved to Nashville from Michigan three years ago. At the time, Canyon Ridge was a great fit for us (myself, my husband, and our two cats). I won't lie and say our experience was all bad; on the contrary, much of it was great- great location, great amenities, great management.
However, trouble started when management switched hands any number of times, currently to Apartment Trust of America (of the "Mission" apartments of Nashville).
The community began to become neglected and tired. Advertised amenities such as gated access and a business center were often broken and in disrepair. I stopped going to the pool because the community did nothing to prevent non-residents from gaining access to the facility. Pest control (in our case, ants) was paid for, yet non-existant. All the while, our rent continued to sky-rocket.
The icing on the cake, however, came at move-out. My husband and I decided we would stay in Nashville, and bought a home. We gave the required sixty-day notice to the office in writing, along with our forwarding address.
Fast-forward to August of this year. To make a VERY long story short, Canyon Ridge sent our "delinquent account" to collections to the tune of 500 some odd dollars for "blinds, final water bill, and new carpeting with 'pet treatment'". The first we had heard of any charges was when I was called by the collection agency. Imagine my shock and utter disbelief. I pay all my bills ON TIME. I have never had a delinquent account IN MY LIFE!
I called and e-mailed Corporate, only to have several messages ignored and not returned. The property manager was not only uncooperative, but downright derogatory in her communications with me. I told her I would not pay any monies until I received documentation including an itemized list of damages, repairs made, cost of those repairs, and any outstanding bills or statements. I have YET to receive any documentation for these items. Today is November 15. Who in the HELL pays a "bill" without ever having received a statement?!
So today, I receive another call from collections, informing me that Canyon Ridge has "re-adjusted" our payment by 425.86. That's correct, people. We now owe them 425.86 LESS than they originally said we did. Magic? Divine intervention?
I'll tell you what I think. I think they like to rob people. I think they're dishonest, horrible people, that believe they can take advantage of good people. Luckily for us, I am persistent and didn't cave-in. They couldn't produce documentation because it didn't exist. Plain and simple. If I wasn't so tired and stressed from fighting this battle, I would be doing more than writing a Yelp review. However, hopefully this helps at least one person reconsider who they're doing business with.
I never write such long-winded reviews, but I wanted to exercise my right to free speech, and to put into detail what an ugly, hurtful experience this has been. To try and swindle someone out of almost 500 dollars is not only immoral, but illegal. This review of Canyon Ridge is the truth, as I have experienced it. Sure, there are at least two sides to every story, but for them to come back and "re-adjust" our bill by $425.86 in OUR FAVOR? Who do you think is being honest here? It sure isn't them.
