If you go there for dinner/supper, from my experience these are the best items to choose from:
5) House Special Wonton Soup. The quart size of this soup is enough to fill up the heartiest of appetites. It is packed full of shrimp, pork, chicken, broccoli, bell pepper, onion and 4 wontons. THIS SOUP IS A MEAL!
4) Four Wings with Ham Fried Rice. For the simple Chinese lover, this will satisfy. The wings are hard fried and crunchy. Add an additional wing for only a buck or so extra.
3) Mongolian Chicken or Beef. The beef is touch and go (as is with any Chinese place). Sometimes it is very tender and delicious, other times it is tough and chewy. Can't go wrong with the chicken, though.
2) Spicy Boneless Chicken with Ham Fried Rice. Again, another simple entree adored by all the locals and regulars of the restaurant. It is hot and served within 5 minutes (no matter how busy the restaurant is).
1) House Special Lo Mein. This is a winter-time treat. This Lo Mein will make your jaw drop when you open the container. It is so hot and delicious with PLENTY of extra gravy. If you've turned up your nose to dry Lo Mein in the past, then you need to re-discover it at Canton.
In all fairness, I must say the egg rolls are plain and have hardly any flavor. They aren't fried long enough. The dumplings (although overpriced) are pretty tasty. I still haven't figured out, however, why they charge more for fried dumplings than steamed. It is usually the opposite in most Chinese dives.
Also, you may want to lay off the "Seafood" section on the menu. The Calabash Shrimp is a joke. It should be called "undersized, flavorless shrimp drowned in cornstarch coating, then over-fried." Be sure to glob on plenty of tartar sauce if you order this.
Another Pro for this restaurant is a spacious dining area with smoking and non-smoking well separated by a wall. This is the best dine-in Chinese place in Kingstree. read more
