The place isn't aesthetically the nicest local spot for a Chinese/Vietnamese bite around this side…read moreof town, feels very casual, a little dark, located on the always busy-Burke road, and the acoustics make it seem like there's a crowd yelling when there was only a few other full tables chatting modestly, but our general rule with Asian food in Melbourne is to not give a stuff about any of that as long as the food delivers. It does. The hefty menu (literally, it seems to be laminated with lead) is complimented with a large array of specials scribbled all over the walls, which keeps things interesting. They were trialing a chicken satay roti, which we've found at only a few other places ever, so that was a must order. At those other places this dish is as it sounds - chicken from a satay skewer wrapped in roti- but here they've made it into a wrap with some salad. Very nice, but a heads up that it's very filling for an entree! We also had the pork dumplings which were nicely done, the calamari which was close to perfectly cooked, and the lamb curry which was mild on spice but very tasty nonetheless. We got chastised for not being able to finish it all from the cheeky wait-staff, but was all in good fun. Our first visit there but the rest of those eating in seemed to be regulars who the staff were all familiar with, which always tells you a lot about a place.

Sitting near the foot of the Dandenongs, and operating for as long as I can remember, Danny and the guys at Jade do a fantastic job when it comes to group bookings. My grandparents choose to come here for every birthday and occasion, and while at first I was skeptical, I have been converted. As a vegetarian, choices are usually down to an omelette or fried rice when it comes to some Chinese restaurants. (Even if you do get the fried rice, chances are you'll find prawns in it.) Knowing this from experience, I was glad to see a really good range of Bead Curd options, and when I spoke to the host, he ensured me I could order anything off the menu and they would make it vegetarian. I recommend the Tofu & Mixed Vegetable Satay. Served with rice on the side, this is a tantalizing dish that recently won 4 vegetarian diners over when we were there. The vegetables were crisp and delicious, and the satay sauce was the best I've ever had. A huge cheers to the host Danny for managing to make every group booking there a great night out. Oh, and as the restaurant has no license to sell alcohol, you can BYO wine, beer or whatever you like. Bringing your own 6 pack is a great touch, and a great way to save money for more food.

Naturally, they ran out of shrimp dishes by the time we arrived. So we settled for some poached chicken and a vegetable dish with sauce. The chicken was oily and the rice had to be used to help soak up the juice. The vegetables were... saucy. And I hate "Chinese mushrooms" that were dried and have to be reconstituted. Green tea came in tea bags... not cool in my opinion. Why am I paying $2 for a tea bag? I could've brought one myself. Loose leaf tea is cheaper anyway. One good thing? Open until 10PM on a Wednesday night. Would not recommend this place unless you can't find anywhere else to eat. A more healthy version than McDonalds.... maybe.

They were exceptionally accommodating tonight, as they were solidly booked (which tells you how good they are) yet they found a way to squeeze us in if we went a little early, which was no problem at all. The food is as beautiful as the decor and the service was top notch. I had the Pan Fried Curried Beef Dumplings and the Sweet and Sour Chicken in Batter which were both SO incredibly delicious. Everyone else at the table loved their meal too and we will definitely come back. It can get a little loud, but again, good service, good food and it was a really nice dining experience. I highly recommend it.

DO NOT DINE HERE!!!…read more My family and I have been ordering takeaway from Chois for years. This was our first time dining in. Our booking was confused with another large group and we were placed in the private dining room. The manager Amy began to ABUSE my mother about conversations that occurred over the phone with the other group. My mother was accused of hanging up the phone and disregarding emails. Amy the manager then realised that she had confused us for another group and did not apologise or explain her lack of professionalism. Amy instructed us to move to the main dining room where the rest of the dining staff greeted us with animosity. The food service was fine and we managed to salvage the rest of our evening. The bill arrived and we were charged $39 for WATER($13 per bottle). We specifically requested tap water and the waiters accused us of requesting still. We tried to reason with them but they treated us with the same rudeness that they displayed at the start of our evening. The food was unbelievable expensive and they charged us a $25 fee for brining our own birthday cake. After the water debacle our night was completely ruined. We went there for a birthday celebration and had the most memorable night of our lives FOR ALL THE WRONG REASONS.
