Its a small deli bar that offered your usual selection of Sandwiches, Wraps, Baguettes and Panini's. Roughly around £3.25, so not too bad really! They are freshly made to order which is a bonus however I expect at busy times it because rather chaotic. I think the staff were just recovering when I arrived as they forgot what I had ordered briefly when presenting the food and whilst holding cash in my hand set up the card machine...must have beeb a manic period beforehand! They had a great selection of food for your choice in a subway style counter. Allowing you to watch your food be prepared and have the choice of anything you want! There was a good selection of crisps, drinks and other snacks to accompany your meal. I didn't have time to peruse everything there so another visit is in order. I did however notice a little seated area so next time there will be more pictures and a better review!!

This was not stated in any policy on the website or app. When I explained my situation, the driver hung up on me. I sent a text requesting a refund but received no response. When I contacted customer service, I spoke with Ashe, who informed me that Big John has a verbal policy in place that drivers cannot go upstairs or enter the building. However, this policy was not stated on the website or app. After placing another order for cash delivery, I was informed by Ashe that the driver would not come upstairs. Despite explaining that I have a disability that makes it difficult for me to go downstairs, Ashe gave me a five-minute ultimatum and threatened to blacklist me. This behaviour constitutes a breach of the 2010 Act on Harassment/victimization. As a customer with a disability, I feel that I was not treated with the same consideration as able-bodied customers. Ash was very clear that failure to come downstairs would result in being blacklisted. This made me feel victimized and pressured, especially as the driver only gave me two minutes to get downstairs, which was virtually impossible due to my disability. Despite explaining my situation, the driver continued to call me multiple times, putting a lot of pressure on me. This mistreatment has led me to seek legal advice. Unfortunately, I was unable to make it downstairs in the given time frame, as I was struggling with the stairs. I regret to inform you that the food I received was lukewarm and not hot, which made it almost cold. I was disappointed with the experience and felt mistreated. As evident from my history, I am a frequent patron of your services. However, I must bring to your attention that the driver assigned to my recent delivery has constant pressure to get downstair. Ahh Big John's... That familiar warmth that washes over me as I see the pink on green colour…read morescheme, and the way that the words 'Famous Five' makes me think of chicken nuggets rather than Enid Blyton perhaps says a lot about my relationship with Birmingham's fast food institution. My relationship with Big John's on the Bristol Road went from a curious first meeting at the outlet opposite the Vauxhall Garage beyond Millenium Point, to a passionate few months of indulgence following a move to Selly Oak (The Bristol Road Big John's stood between my house and the train station as a constant temptation). Following dieting and vegetarianism, we're not really on speaking terms at present, sadly. Perhaps the best reason to visit Big John's on the Bristol Road lies in its rivalry with Pizza Pepper next door, which has led to an outrageous price war between both establishments, slashing pizza prices to less than 50% (In real terms, a massive 12" pizza from Big John's is a steal at £4.99). While Pizza Pepper's pizzas are less drenched in grease, Big John's has a small advantage by letting customers pick as much of their own toppings as they'd like. For example, my usual would be cheese, pepperoni, jalapenos, chinese chicken, regular chicken, red onions, peppers, mince, a second layer of cheese and a top layer of pepperoni - ONLY in that order. While the shame of struggling home with such a large box past masses of people waiting for busses might hurt for a while, the dinner (and following breakfast of leftovers) will be well worth the while. Besides pizza, Big John's covers a large variety of chip shop regulars, peri-peri chicken, kebabs, kid's meals and even paninis. These are all mostly inexpensive, with the 'Famous Five' deal in Selly Oak remaining an old favourite. When I moved to Selly Oak two years ago, a fairly small - but still generous - portion of six chicken nuggets and chips, a slice of pizza and chips, a donner meat burger, one piece of chicken and chips or four hot wings and chips were all available for £1 each, which proved to be a very tempting proposition at first. Following two jumps in price to £1.25, then £1.50 a few weeks ago, it remains a good deal but is less likely to make me count my change in the street like it used to. Perhaps over-indulgence has overshadowed my relationship with the Big John's in Selly Oak, but it continues to open new stores and keep customers happy with a large and often pretty tasty menu, so it must be doing something right.

The price was not too expensive either, which was good news for my purse. I ordered sweet and sour pork, with egg fried rice. Yum! I did not wait too long for the food to be ready and when it was ready I left looking forward to tucking in. When I finally got home, I was pleased, the sweet and sour pork was really good. Very tasty and it was still warm too. The rice was great as well. Overall, I think that this is a good Chinese and I would recommend it to anyone in the local area.

In several of my other reviews, I've mentioned that I'm often attracted to more basic restaurants…read moreover flashy establishments as I assume that the former is happy to let its food do the talking, and is using the money that they take in to make better food rather than ultimately superficial improvements to their premises. That's true to an extent, but it's fair to say that the Mayflower Chinese takeaway pushes the boundaries of my belief in this dogma. The sign above the door proudly states 'Quality Chinese and English meals to take-away', which really doesn't bode well. First of all, 'take-away' is right, as, despite a decent sized location, there are no tables whatsoever, only benches on which to wait for your food. I appreciate this is fairly common for Chinese takeaways, but you'd have thought with a bit of creative rearranging that they could've maybe fit a small restaurant section in. However, this inconvenience is more than made up for my the excellent food. I'm not a major fan of Chinese food, but the Mayflower has earned a place on my regular circulation of takeaways (don't judge me), not least because of the excellent prices, with mains rarely costing more than £4.50, significantly better than many other Chineses in Birmingham.

I do think that pizzas can be done badly and there are a few bad ones that I have had in Birmingham, but this place is not one of them. Inside it is like any other take away store, although there are a few tables if you fancy sitting inside. I never do as I usually want to get home. They also do delivery if cannot be bothered to leave the warm comfort of your home. The staff are fairly pleasant and have always made small talk with me when I have been in and I have never had to wait too long for my food to be ready. The prices are quite cheap too, which is a bonus. Overall, I think that this is a cracking fast food take away!

All of these things make me return again and again to this joint. I think that there are a lot of different food options in here and even though I have been several times, I am still yet to try everything on the menu! The chips are wonderful, not a soggy or burnt chip in sight, but rather always tasty, perfectly salted and hot. I particularly enjoy their kebabs too and I am not even a big kebab fan, but they are just so tasty here! The food is always of a good quality, which is always a bonus at a fast food joint and I really think that this place is better than a lot of the big fast food chains. Overall, it's a great place and definitely worth a visit!

It is a simplistic venue and the idea is that you get your lunch to take away with you as there is limited seating inside. It has never been really busy when I have been in, which I think is a shame as the food is quite good and it is not too pricey either. Each time I have been in the staff have been quite friendly and chatty, asking me if I was working or just visiting friends. I like the small talk as it is a personal touch and makes me want to go back. Overall, it is a great little place, I only wish they had more business!

Whilst many of the takeaways on the road have obviously been created from nearly identical kits, and lack any real character or soul, Food 4 Thought, whilst fairly basic, at least has the fact that it doesn't take itself particularly seriously to its credit, with a sign on the counter counting down until the next mood swing of the staff. Sadly, although technically speaking a cafe, it has just the one table, so it's not exactly the best of atmospheres if you're lucky enough to go in when it's free. The few occasions that I've been in I've always found it to be quite sparsely populated in terms of stock, and it's difficult to tell if this is because of the shop's popularity or because it's struggling to stay in business in this harsh economic climate, which again doesn't exactly help the atmosphere. The food is good, and some of the best available in the area, however it's by no means the baguette shop I've eaten at it in Birmingham (that would be Emma's Pantry).
