It was not, it was just not very Mexican. There are good things to be said about Yucatan. It's quite an aesthetically pleasing and inviting atmosphere. The service was friendly and fast. The drinks, while small, were tasty. My problem was with the food. Mexican food is vibrant and flavorful, the food here was a bit bland. I just wanted a bit more flavor. When you make the reservation (and you really should make a reservation), you choose where you want to dine. The menu also differs, depending on where you sit. On the ground floor, that's the restaurant. I've dined there the most. I love trying their cocktails and their bitterballen aren't that bad. You almost can't go wrong with the dish that you choose; they also change and rotate so it might already be a different menu. I sat upstairs once. It was a small plates sharing menu with more cocktails to try! In other words, it was a more extensive cocktail menu. Every time I've been the food and the cocktails have been excellent. They also have beer in case you just want to do that. The decor is fun and quirky with an Indiana Jones/Jungle Cruise flavor. I would highly recommend getting a reservation if you're in Groningen.
