It was not, it was just not very Mexican. There are good things to be said about Yucatan. It's quite an aesthetically pleasing and inviting atmosphere. The service was friendly and fast. The drinks, while small, were tasty. My problem was with the food. Mexican food is vibrant and flavorful, the food here was a bit bland. I just wanted a bit more flavor. The guacamole was fantastic, though, so cheers for that.

When you make the reservation (and you really should make a reservation), you choose where you want to dine. The menu also differs, depending on where you sit. On the ground floor, that's the restaurant. I've dined there the most. I love trying their cocktails and their bitterballen aren't that bad. You almost can't go wrong with the dish that you choose; they also change and rotate so it might already be a different menu. I sat upstairs once. It was a small plates sharing menu with more cocktails to try! In other words, it was a more extensive cocktail menu. Every time I've been the food and the cocktails have been excellent. They also have beer in case you just want to do that. The decor is fun and quirky with an Indiana Jones/Jungle Cruise flavor. I would highly recommend getting a reservation if you're in Groningen.

The waiting staff seemed very friendly and the food was absolutely delicious. The menu is large but it gives a great range of choices and quality is not comprised by the vastness of what is on offer. I had one of the 'combinación' dishes as my main course and the cost vs quality and quantity is well justified - though the prices are generally somewhat expensive if you decide to have all three courses, a drink or two during and a coffee. Service could be quicker but given the demand it is not surprising but is not too long and it was an enjoyable wait - enough time to chill - not enough to starve. For many this is perfect (you aren't pushed out of the door). Will return for sure.

The food was horrible. The albondigas soup tasted like tomatoes paste, and it only had 1/2 of a meatball in it. The guacamole was more like a creamy paste flavored with avocado oil. The only acceptable part of my meal was the beer.
