They enter your home with no warning. I just got out the shower & I had someone with tattoos on their face claiming they were maintenance & there was a leak from the apartment under me. They entered my apartment & just unlocked my door. Not a warning , not a call. Actually insane considering you can get a license to carry guns in this state & they just have people unlocking your doors and walking into your apartment. where to start.... i have been keeping notes for the last three years and it just progressively kept getting worse. my solar lights were shattered by the painting contractors who came to paint every single building in the complex (as if that would change anything because it's foundational issues inside that are ugly) and I found giant screws on our patio (where our dog always walks to go outside) when building workers came out to paint there was ALWAYS always trash on our porch (never ever ours... it was always our upstairs neighbors who threw their cigs, vape pens, garbage, etc) and flooding and sand all over our patio it was gross water damage and flooding which they lied about when we moved in.... had to have our entire DOOR replaced!!!! as well as drywall and other parts of the wall/door frame. Most definitely was mold for the entirety of us living there and i have a severe severe allergy. i made sooo many complaints.... which they said they came and did an air quality test and resolved the issue... we never got any results and a year later i ask them about it and they said the company they use doesn't have any record of our apartment ever getting an air quality test... they then proceeded to come to my apartment and conduct an air quality test that I NEVER ASKED THEM TO DO!!! and charged me $500 for the test and then the next week tacked on $150 in late fees... it took me over 10+ emails and eventually going into the office 3x to get someone to speak to me about the phantom charges and tests. this is criminal!! i was ignored until i continuously went to the office because i will absolutely not tolerate this type of behavior from a place we called home for 3 years. the staff member who originally was emailing me and ghosted me never even came to tell me in person at the office what would happen with the charges or even apologize. the next day the charges were dropped from my account. this was insane !! there was also a leak in our second bathroom from the ceiling from the toilet above us... took quite a while to get that fixed and for over a week there was a fan in the bathroom placed to help air it out ? when there was visible mold on the ceiling.... sometimes maintenance is fast for things like an outlet issue.... but if your apartment is flooded or moldy don't expect to hear anything the dog park has too many giant holes and needs repaired and multiple dogs have escaped don't get me started on the dog poop... they said they enforce the rule of picking it up.... but when i say the plethora of dog looks like pine cones.... its DISGUSTING (pics below, because this is how it looked over the entire complex) carpet stains before we moved in a bug living in our oven in the clock/timer..... gross our apartment always reeking of cigarette smoke and marijuana even tho it's a smoke free building... and they "enforced" measures to ensure people were smoking elsewhere other than inside the complex... and that's laughable lolol never happened... the best thing about moving to a new complex is the smell no more musty nastiness we took pics when we first moved in of every room because there was already so much damage, ceiling tiles falling out, carpet stains, etc i have never left a review that wasn't positive. but i have nothing kind to say about canterbury. just overall was not a nice experience. if i could leave 0/5 i would read more

There are many apartments in the area for the same amount. If you don't believe me take a drive around the complex. You will see them looking somewhat rundown. I been here for about a month, and the dumpsters are exploding with garbage, haven't been emptied since I moved there. When I called the office to express my concern with this, they told me to put in a service request on my residential account. I shouldn't have to remind my apartment complex to empty the dumpsters. I typically don't leave reviews, but I felt compelled to share my experience with this "luxury" apartment complex. First off, don't be fooled by the word "luxury" in their branding. The apartments are outdated to the point of being laughable. The kitchen is straight out of the 80s -- from the bottom of the line countertops, to the dingy cabinets, it's like stepping into a time machine. The mismatched appliances, dated kitchen, and cheap countertops just make the entire space feel like it hasn't been updated in decades. To make matters worse, I've had constant maintenance requests that seem to never end. Most concerning of all, my apartment has flooded four separate times. Yes, four. Each time, I had to deal with water damage, and although the water remediation lady was very nice and helpful, it's hard to ignore that the complex is clearly not doing enough to fix these issues permanently. I've had to deal with the stress and inconvenience of flooding and water damage multiple times, and that's simply unacceptable for a place that claims to be "luxury." To add insult to injury, I was charged a ridiculous $450 for "stains" on cheap, 15-year-old countertops that looked bad to begin with. These are the same countertops that were here when I moved in, and yet somehow I'm responsible for the countertops not being better than when my lease began? It's beyond frustrating to pay top dollar for an apartment with outdated fixtures and then get charged for things that were never in great condition in the first place. They're using our security deposits to "upkeep" these units, but it seems like that just means slapping on a fresh coat of paint and calling it good. An emergency maintenance call took 44 hours to respond to. 44 hours in an unlivable unit with no help. I am unable to contact a compensation manager but every manager I have spoken to so far has essentially told me to kick rocks. They even threatened to call the police on me when I told them I did want to leave the office until my emergency maintenance request is resolved after 44 hours of being ignored. This place is a joke. They literally told me "well you can just go somewhere else" but I can't??? I relocated here, and nothing is 24/7 anymore for me to camp out overnight. DO NOT LIVE HERE. I moved in to a dirty apartment with trash, multiple bugs/spiders/centipedes, mold all over the windows and shower, NO WIFI, and only 2 functioning outlets. The leasing agent tried to gaslight me that I didn't know what mold was and it was not taken care of for almost an entire month before it was just painted over. I DID NOT HAVE ANY HOT WATER FOR OVER 3 DAYS. All of my calls go to multiple AI bots passing me around to other AI bots and if you do get a leasing agent or manager they always have attitude and are very unhelpful. They will shut off your water without any notice then if you do get a hold of someone after calling multiple times, they will refuse to take any accountability or give you a timeline/updates. This is mostly a college community. When calling the Canterbury office, 9 times out of 10, you will have to leave a voice message and then follow up or drop by the office to get a response. The times I've visited their office, they were always sitting down. You would have to take a seat and wait until someone acknowledges you. When you explain your situation or your need, a particular office person always wants to vent along with you because she also lives in the Canterbury Apartments, and that does not help me! I don't care to hear about your situation. I always walk away frustrated and still with no resolution. When putting in a work order for maintenance, it will take at least 4 weeks, no matter what. They are truly short-staffed and have had hiring events, but now you have maintenance staff that does not know all areas of "maintenance." So, one worker will come to your apartment, take a look, and then say he needs to refer your issue to another staff member because he has no knowledge of how to fix your problem. Security needs to be increased throughout the complex. The windows, patios, and interiors need to be updated. Management needs to change things up in the office, some staff are too comfortable and just do not care to truly listen to resident concerns/issues. read more

Overall, I've enjoyed living here. However, this is the third time since April our shut our water has been off. Usually they tell us it's going to and give us an estimate of when it'll be back on. Last night I went to the bathroom and went to wash my hands. I couldn't because the water had been shut off. I get they're not necessarily responsible for whether it's shut off, but they didn't communicate this time and haven't told me when it's coming back on. I bought gallons of water so I can fill bowls and use no-rinse body wash and brush my teeth. My dishes are piling up and I can't run the dishwasher. I can't do my laundry or flush my toilet. It is ridiculous and unacceptable. Also, it's $10/month for parking, and there's a pole near my covered spot. So I don't park there. I park near the mailboxes, and since I've been here, we've been infiltrated with more people. There are hardly any parking spaces available now. read more

One townhouse which was a great experience and one 2bd 2 bth apartment which has been the absolute worst experience I have ever had in my life. Their customer service is horrendous. During the large storms months ago, my apartment flooded. It flooded because of the water pooling in from the patio screen, which I can't fault the maintainence for. But it also flooded by dripping from the ceiling. I live on the bottom floor, and I was getting water FROM THE CEILING. From the light fixtures, dripping from the ceiling (nowhere near my neighbors patio above me), and even getting water under the carpets. Insurance, of course, refused to reimburse me for my ruined mattress and electronics. The apartment complex refused too, of course. The apartment didn't fix the issues themselves until 2 weeks later. After numerous phone calls (half of which weren't picked up), and maintainence requests, and physically going into their office. The kicker? They let dogs poop anywhere they want, so when my apartment flooded, all that lovely dog poop flooded in with it. But of course they say 'not our problem!' THESE ARE NOT LUXURY APARTMENTS. I PAY 1,300$ A MONTH!!! For a HAZARD. They extort parking, never answer your calls, and never repair a thing unless held at proverbial gunpoint. By the end of the year, the company will raise my rent even more just because they can. Because they do not care about you. They care about leaving a review under this one to placate you, and give the illusion that they are 'trying'. But if they were trying, these issues would be fixed. These things wouldn't happen. This place is terrible; it's a pretty big complex, and they don't have enough workers to come out to fix things. It's been 3 months since our A/C was out, and we put in a work order since then, but nothing has happened. It's summer time, so it gets pretty hot in there, and we keep calling; no one's ever answered. One guy did come to look at the AC, but he said that they needed to order a part to fix it that was 1 month ago. It still hasn't been fixed yet; this is unacceptable; we can't even sleep at night. I hate living here. These apartments are so rundown and they are CONSTANTLY having to repair things. They need to be replacing things. Not repairing them. My dryer broke so they came to replace it. The maintenance man told me that the one I had, had been here is 1995!!!!!! Ridiculous considering how much you have to pay to live here. DO NOT be fooled by the sign out front that says "luxury apartments". There is absolutely nothing luxurious about them!!! The office staff pretends to try to work with you on issues you are having in your apartment, but the issues are never resolved. Avoid this place like the plague. It seemed nice at first. Until you realize that you have an outdated apartment compared to other units in the complex and you're still being charged a premium for broken appliances. My recent lease renewal apparently "required" a 15% increase regardless of all the issues I've experienced below. If I had the financial means to move I would have gladly, but I can't save a penny with the high rent and utilities. My dryer stopped working and they couldn't get someone to come look for a week, then I was told another 2 weeks almost for the part to arrive. Come to find out I'm waiting for the one person on the maintenance staff that knows how to install it to be in. Was not offered compensation in any way for the weeks that I had to pay a laundromat to clean my clothes. It's not cheap when you have two kids. It will still stop working occasionally but I've given up. My other issue is/was my fridge. I've given up on this place caring. My fridge has been leaking from the freezer onto the food/drink in the fridge area for over a year. They have done nothing to fix it. The window seals and door seals are terrible as well. There are cracks in the walls of a family member's apartment and her patio door doesn't close all of the way. Not worth $1100/mo. Not to mention people don't follow the small dog policy so they take their big dogs outside to shit and there is literally dog shit everywhere so neither the owner of the pets or grounds crew clean that up. Make sure to document and photograph EVERY LITTLE THING. The apartments a old and outdated and they will try and use your money to upkeep them. They charged me $100 for a few tiny scratches pictures below on the counter the previous owner left and claimed I "used it as a cutting board". The counters have clearly not been replaced or reglazed for years. When I called them out the employee ranted about how great and thorough they were at their job, apparently not enough to catch this after the last person moved out. I had already i spoken with another person from Canterbury over the phone and was given information which these ladies quickly told me "was very inaccurate". The way they spoke to me like I was stupid was degrading. Not only did I receive nasty looks during the conversation from 2 of them, I also was told things like "are you having a hard time understanding this or are you just not accepting what we're saying?" and "how is this not making sense to you?" in extremely condescending tones. I have heard so many other stories like mine from other residents too. I should have listened to other people telling me not to live here before i moved in. I called multiple times to get a residence verification to move into a house and Canterbury never responded. Never responded to emails. I now , have to come up with more rent due to them adding in internet because they did a deal with xfinity. So now I have higher rent which caused me to be late, and I have worse internet. After I paid my internet bill. I recommended a resident who lives at Canterbury and I honestly never would recommend another resident to this company. read more

First, this will be a honest review. Canterbury has the worst customer service regarding answering phones. If you go into the office, Peter is the person to talk to because he is knowledgeable and helpful, but getting them to answer a call or return a message is next to impossible. Second, DO NOT move into a townhouse unless you live with other people. I got one for myself and my kids and when it gets cold, the heating bill will be upwards of $500 a month (was told around $200-$300 when signing my lease). I did, however, report the issue and was told they are just old (I got a single credit back for a small amount due to three months of serious complaints, again in-person, never got a single call back). Third, DO NOT trust the staff. I complained two months into my lease for stains coming through the countertops. The countertops were obviously poorly redone, as they were inconsistent across and not leveled. I was told they don't re-do the countertops (which I later found out it was because they didn't have someone with the expertise to do so). I was also told I'd be out on the list for correcting this, which never happened. I then put in another request a month before my lease was up, and never heard back. I believe they just closed the ticket on their own, but can't confirm. I finally went into the office and asked about it before my move out date, and the woman who is Peter's counterpart told me I was fine because I had put in complaints. I was charged for the countertops...have called for clarification many times, and still no callback. Fourth, the maintenance people are horrible, depending on who you get. The drywall guy, who is younger, is great and trustworthy. Lucas, who is the only one I remember by name, is also very helpful. Aside from those two, I had requested calls before entering and they entered multiple times without calling. They also left notes saying things were checked (referring back to the furnace), when I was working from home all day and never had someone inside. DO NOT trust this department aside from the two I mentioned. Finally, just note that the pool staff is very unfriendly. I had two friends and my children come with me, and they wouldn't allow my friends in because my children weren't on the lease (they are 11, 9, and 5) so I had maxed out my "guest" limit, referencing my children. We never went ba All in all, a 1 Star is probably higher than Canterbury should be ranked. Aside from the golf course...I hope anyone who is interested reads this, so they can find a much more accommodating apartment complex. Update as of 3/15/2020 - have called Emily Church (the person who handles issues on your final bill) at least three times a week and still have gotten no response. Apartments are old and dirty. Carpet in the bathrooms?? Management doesn't care about its residents whatsoever. We had animals making noises in our walls late April 2019 and they did absolutely nothing despite multiple calls and service requests. Now there are animals back in our walls scratching around and poking their claws through holes and management has yet to do anything about it. Obviously they did nothing in the spring or else this wouldn't be happening again. They have said they're "sending somebody out" but nobody has come to take care of the problem. I've lived here for 2 years and I seriously can't believe these reviews. I've lived at two other complexes one off of coldwater and one in wayndale and this has been such a different experience. I don't have crazy expectations of maintenance when obviously the apartments aren't brand new. They have events all the time that I take my daughter to and they have so many more amenities here than other places. Like how many other places do you have a bar and grill on top of all the other things. My daughter is obsessed with going to the theater room and the pools. The only thing that can get out of hand is the electric bills but they're all completely electric and it depends on how you live. I'm currently out of state and experiencing a very time sensitive issue. I've called the apartment complex 9 times and left 3 voice messages. The fact that no one is around to answer the main office phones is ridiculous. This place is not cheap and they have horrible customer service. There should be a way to get in contact with SOMEONE associated with the on-site apartment complex in case of an emergency, like I'm experiencing. Definitely do not recommend living here unless you want to be nickel and dimed. It's also gross. When we moved in, there were socks from the old tenets in multiple places. In the pantry, behind washer, in the bathroom cabinet. Stars are for the HVAC maintenance team who came out and fixed our AC and made sure to have the carpet cleaners there at the same time. Our thermostat was reading 78° for a few days and they came out and tried to let it thaw, thinking there was ice on the condenser. Turns out there was about 10-15 years of dirt. This is from the repair guy's own mouth. We have only lived here three years. But they got our home liveable, so five stars. I hate that our electricity bill is astronomical because we have no insulation in these apartments for the winter and there is a straight up hole in the wall to the outside behind our washer and dryer. We have had flooding, moles (yes, the little ugly mammals), and yellow jackets enter our apartment because they won't fix the insulation and the hole. They do have great events that are even free and they are very nice in the office. Id give no stars if possible . The office and maintenance are staffed with incompetent people. They up the rent every year and the price is not worth it. A family member of mine is getting ready to move out and into our house while on a waiting list for other apartments. They have foundation issues. The patio door doesn't shut all of the way which causes the heat to run non stop and cracks up and down the walls. Not worth the $1100.00 they want monthly! Look elsewher! read more

Great apartment complex! The maintenance staff was very responsive and fixed my problems quickly. All the staff helping me with my lease responded very quickly and pleasantly. My apartment was very clean and in great condition when I moved in. The reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because there was a weird smell (almost like a smoker had previously lived there) when I first moved in but it did go away quickly with candles and a good clean. The mailboxes are also hard to find. read more
